Player Outlook
Wilson went from prized rookie in 2021, when he was the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft, to being replaced by Aaron Rodgers two years later. We could see Wilson eventually get a chance to start again in the NFL, whether with the Jets or somewhere else, but he's not expected to play in 2023 barring an injury to Rodgers. Even then, the Jets might turn to Tim Boyle or Chris Streveler ahead of Wilson. He's been among the bigger busts in recent history, and he averaged 13.0 Fantasy points or less in each of his first two years. Needless to say, Wilson is not worth drafting in the majority of Fantasy leagues.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Adds/Streamers (QB Preview)

Zach Wilson over Joe Burrow? Yes, this week I would. Part of it is that Wilson did look a lot better last week against the Chiefs. A bigger part is that the Broncos have the worst defense in the NFL. And, of course, the biggest part is that Burrow simply is not himself. Denver has surrendered at least 19 Fantasy points to every quarterback it has faced.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Week 5 Waiver Priority List

Wilson had one of the best performances of his career in Week 4 against Kansas City when he completed 28-of-39 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns, and he added 14 rushing yards for 23.2 Fantasy points. He should have had a third touchdown that Tyler Conklin dropped, and maybe we were too quick to judge Wilson after tough matchups against the Cowboys and Patriots in the past two games. He has the chance for another quality outing in Week 5 at Denver since the Broncos have been miserable against opposing quarterbacks all season, ranking No. 1 in most Fantasy points allowed to the position at 31.3 points. I would start Wilson in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues in Week 5, and he's worth adding in those formats for at least 10 percent of your FAB.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Shows life in close loss

Wilson completed 28 of his 39 pass attempts for 245 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while gaining 14 yards on two carries in Sunday's 23-20 loss to Kansas City. Wilson struggled to complete half of his passing attempts through three appearances this season (52 percent entering Sunday), so expectations against the reigning Super Bowl champions were understandably low. The 2021 second overall pick responded with one of the cleaner passing performances we've seen him deliver to date. It would take more than one solid outing from the BYU product to undo the past two seasons of mediocrity, but it was an encouraging effort on the national stage against a legitimate contender. If Wilson can string together a couple more positive games, then we could start seeing him discussed as a potential option in fantasy circles. His next opportunity to do so comes against Denver next Sunday.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Struggles continue in Week 3 loss

Wilson completed 18 of 36 passes for 157 yards while rushing once for one yard in Sunday's 15-10 loss to the Patriots. Wilson threw for only 29 yards in the first half as the Jets took a 10-3 deficit into the locker room. He came alive with 79 passing yards on a fourth-quarter touchdown drive capped by a one-yard Nick Bawden touchdown run, but Wilson failed to produce a first down on New York's next two possessions. He got one last chance as the Jets got the ball with 16 seconds left, and Wilson almost pulled off the miracle comeback, as his Hail Mary on the final play bounced off Randall Cobb's hand after a 29-yard pass to Garrett Wilson and spike. Wilson showed some flashes of potential with the Jets in desperation mode in the fourth quarter, but he was putrid before then. Despite Wilson's struggles, coach Robert Saleh said after the game that the 2021 second overall draft pick will remain the starting quarterback in Week 4 against the Chiefs, per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Tough day in Dallas

Wilson completed 12 of 27 passes for 170 yards and one touchdown with three interceptions in Sunday's 30-10 loss to the Cowboys. He added 36 rushing yards on five carries. The third-year QB actually led the Jets in rushing, as the Dallas defense put together another dominant performance. Wilson's numbers in the first half were fairly solid, highlighted by a 68-yard TD pass to Garrett Wilson (undisclosed) in the second quarter, but all three of his INTs came on New York's final three drives as he tried to make something happen to bring his team back from a 17-point deficit. Wilson faces another potentially tough matchup in Week 3 against the Patriots.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Named starting QB

Coach Robert Saleh reiterated Tuesday that Wilson is the Jets' starting quarterback after the team confirmed Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles during Monday's overtime win versus the Bills, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. After taking over for Rodgers on New York's fifth offensive snap of the game, Wilson played the final 50 en route to 140 yards passing, one touchdown and one interception. He also had four carries for six yards and was sacked twice for minus-13 yards. Saleh noted that the Jets will add another quarterback at some point to a room that currently includes only practice-squad member Tim Boyle behind Wilson.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Taking over for Rodgers

Wilson will direct the Jets offense Sunday in Dallas and beyond after the team confirmed that Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles during Monday's overtime win against the Bills, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Rodgers lasted just four plays before being lost for the season. Wilson then took over New York's offense and put together an uneven performance, going 14-for-21 with 140 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception plus four carries for six yards and two sacks taken for 13 yards lost. Coach Robert Saleh and company will move forward with Wilson at quarterback, but the team could bring in a veteran option as soon as this week to bolster the depth chart. Currently, Tim Boyle is the only other healthy signal-caller in the organization, and he's situated on the practice squad.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Set to start rest of season

Coach Robert Saleh said Wilson will "be the guy" under center for the Jets for the rest of the season after Aaron Rodgers suffered what the team believes is an Achilles injury during Monday's 22-16 overtime win versus the Bills, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Wilson stepped in for Rodgers on the Jets' fifth offensive play after the former Packer left the game. Wilson had his usual struggles, completing 14 of 21 passes for 140 yards, one touchdown and one interception, rushing four times for six yards and getting sacked twice for a loss of 13 yards. His TD to Garrett Wilson with less than five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter tied the contest at 13-13, although the receiver bailed out his quarterback with a highlight-reel effort to reel in a poor throw, and the offense didn't need to take a snap in overtime due to Xavier Gipson's 65-yard punt return for the game-winning score. Moving forward, Wilson the QB will have plenty of skill-position talent to work with in addition to Wilson the wideout, including Breece Hall, Dalvin Cook and Allen Lazard.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Solid in another start

Wilson completed nine of 13 passes for 70 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed twice for 41 yards in the Jets' 13-6 preseason loss to the Buccaneers on Saturday night. Aaron Rodgers once again got the night off, so Wilson's busy preseason continued with another respectable showing. Unlike last week's shutout win over the Panthers, Wilson wasn't able to get the Jets into the end zone, but he had an impact play with a 35 yard-run and remained free of turnovers. The third-year signal-caller appears to have settled in nicely after his abrupt demotion this offseason and may get one final chance to tune up for his No. 2 role behind Rodgers when the Jets face off with the Giants in next Saturday night's exhibition finale.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Draws another preseason start

Wilson is slated to start Saturday's preseason game against the Buccaneers, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. As was the case in last weekend's contest against the Panthers, Wilson will be followed by Tim Boyle, while top QB Aaron Rodgers won't play. As for the Jets' Aug. 26 exhibition finale against the Giants, coach Robert Saleh noted that he has yet to decide if Rodgers will see action.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Solid showing in Saturday's win

Wilson completed 14 of 20 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 27-0 win over Carolina. He added one rushing attempt for two yards. Wilson delivered a decent performance while playing the entire first half. He spent the first two drives surrounded by the majority of New York's starters, with the notable exceptions of top wide receiver Garrett Wilson (ankle) and running back Breece Hall (knee). Wilson's touchdown pass came in the final seconds of the first half, as he found reserve tight end Kenny Yeboah from two yards out. The 24-year-old quarterback figures to see plenty of action over the Jets' two remaining preseason games before settling in as the backup to offseason addition Aaron Rodgers come the regular season.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Getting another preseason start

Wilson will start Saturday's preseason game in Carolina, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Wilson also started the Jets' preseason opener against the Browns, in which he completed three of five passes for 65 yards. Veteran QB Aaron Rodgers reportedly won't be in consideration to take the field until New York's preseason finale, so Wilson should continue to see action ahead of third-stringer Tim Boyle. Coach Robert Saleh declined to confirm whether the starting offense will see the field versus the Panthers.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Draws start Thursday

Wilson completed three of five passes for 65 yards in the Jets' 21-16 preseason loss to the Browns in Thursday night's Hall of Fame Game. Wilson was the first quarterback in with Aaron Rodgers getting the night off, and matters didn't get off on the right foot when he took a sack on the Jets' second play from scrimmage. However, the 2021 first-round pick rebounded on his second possession with a 57-yard completion to Malik Taylor from his own seven-yard line to help set up a Greg Zuerlein field goal. Wilson was in for one more drive, which also culminated in three points off the foot of Zuerlein, before giving way to Tim Boyle. With the Jets having an extra preseason game to work with this summer, Wilson could well start in place of an idle Rodgers again in New York's road preseason battle versus the Panthers a week from Saturday.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Will play Thursday

Head coach Robert Saleh said Wilson will play during Thursday's Hall of Fame preseason game versus Cleveland, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Saleh said he doesn't expect the starters to play at all during Thursday's game, so Wilson, who's expected to be the primary backup to Aaron Rodgers in 2023, figures to get an extended look. Tim Boyle and Chris Streveler will presumably get worked into the mix as well.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Likely staying in NY as backup

The Jets plan to keep Wilson around in a backup role after trading for Aaron Rodgers on Monday, ESPN.com's Rich Cimini reports. The report notes that Wilson and Rodgers have become friends, and the Jets hope they can still salvage something from the No. 2 overall pick down the line in 2024 or 2025. Wilson has completed 55.2 percent of his passes for 6.4 YPA as a pro, showing no real progress last season as he was benched for poor performance on two occasions. With Rodgers set to start in New York for the next year or two, the 23-year-old Wilson drops down the depth chart and may even face a challenge from Tim Boyle for the No. 2 QB job.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Wraps up poor sophomore season

Wilson finished his second season with 1,688 passing yards and a 6:7 TD:INT in nine starts. He added 102 yards and one touchdown on 28 rushing attempts, in addition to catching a two-yard touchdown. Wilson didn't show much progress from his forgettable rookie season, but the team around him improved substantially, allowing him to post a 5-4 record in 2022 after opening his career with a 3-10 record. The second player selected in the 2021 NFL Draft likely will remain on the Jets' roster in the fall, but Wilson won't be handed the starting role and probably will come into camp as the backup. New York's expected to add an alternative under center, either by re-signing Mike White or pursuing a veteran starter via trade or free agency.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Will be healthy inactive Week 17

Head coach Robert Saleh said Monday that Wilson will be a healthy inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Seahawks, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports. Mike White (ribs) was cleared for contact earlier Monday and is in line to reclaim the starting gig, so Saleh is opting to have veteran Joe Flacco operate as the primary backup to White, sending Wilson to the inactive list again. Even if White wasn't cleared, it's possible Wilson would've ceded the starting job to Flacco or Chris Streveler after back-to-back bad outings. Despite Wilson's struggles this year, Saleh remains confident in the 2021 first-round pick, saying the young quarterback still is a big part of the Jets' future, per Brian Costello of the New York Post.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Coach non-committal on future

Coach Robert Saleh didn't commit Friday to Wilson starting even if Mike White (ribs) remains sidelined moving forward, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. "We've got time," Saleh said when asked about New York's quarterback situation. "I don't have those answers for you yet." Wilson failed to break triple digits in passing yards Thursday before exiting to a chorus of boos in the third quarter as the Jets turned to the Taysom Hill-like Chris Streveler in an effort to spark the offense. Despite the 19-3 loss to Jacksonville, the Jets remain mathematically alive for a playoff spot, and letting Wilson learn on the fly may not give the team much of a chance to win Jan. 1 in Seattle.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Week 16 Waiver Priority List

Zach Wilson will start Thursday night against Jacksonville with Mike White (ribs) out, and Wilson might not be a terrible Fantasy option. The Jaguars have allowed six quarterbacks in a row to score at least 21 Fantasy, so hopefully Wilson can post a quality stat line. It would have been nice to have White for this game, but Wilson just scored 22 Fantasy points against Detroit in Week 15. Hopefully, he can replicate that type of performance again on Thursday night.

  • Jets' Zach Wilson: Likely starter Thursday

Wilson is likely to start Thursday against the Jaguars, as fellow quarterback Mike White (ribs) has yet to be cleared for contact, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Wilson threw for 317 yards while filling in for White in Week 15, but the Jets lost, 20-17, to the Lions as Wilson missed multiple easy throws against the vulnerable Detroit secondary. Thursday's game basically is a must-win for the 7-7 Jets, so White likely would play in the unlikely scenario that he gets medical clearance in the next few days.
