  • 49ers' Chase Lucas: Headed to San Francisco

The 49ers signed Lucas to a one-year deal Friday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. The 2022 seventh-round pick spent the first two seasons of his career with the Lions, but he's now found a new home in San Francisco. Lucas primarily served as a member of the special-teams units in Detroit, playing a total of 311 snaps (305 on special teams) and recording four tackles across the last two years. He's expected to compete for a similar role in San Francisco this offseason.

  • Lions' Chase Lucas: Joins active roster

The Lions signed Lucas off their practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. • Lions' Chase Lucas: Back to practicing

Lucas participated in OTAs on Monday and appears to have recovered from his hamstring injury. Lucas injured his hamstring back in December and ended up spending the remainder of the 2022 campaign on injured reserve, but he now seems to be healthy. The 26-year-old likely will be competing for a depth spot in the Lions secondary throughout the summer after logging three tackles (one solo) in six games last season.

  • Lions' Chase Lucas: Full participant Wednesday

Lucas (ankle) was listed as a full participant on the Lions' injury report Wednesday. Lucas has not played since suffering an ankle injury during Detroit's Week 7 loss to the Cowboys. However, the rookie appears to be healthy again after logging a full session during the Lions' first practice of Week 11. Expect Lucas to reprise a core special-teams role against the Giants on Sunday.

  • Lions' Chase Lucas: Secures backup role

Lucas made the initial 53-man roster as a backup slot cornerback, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. The seventh-round rookie had an impressive summer, beating out incumbent starting slot cornerback AJ Parker for the backup job at nickelback behind free-agent acquisition Mike Hughes. It is possible that Lucas's versatility won out, as he not only contributes on special teams, but Lucas can move over to safety, too.
