  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Heads toward free agency

Griffin wasn't targeted in the Bears' 29-13 loss to the Vikings in Week 18, and ended the season with four receptions for 26 yards over 15 games played. Griffin came into this season with six seasons of at least 244 receiving yards, but the 32 year old had the worst season of his career because he was targeted less than once per game. It's possible he re-emerges next year as a depth tight end, as he's now an unrestricted free agent.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: No yardage in defeat

Griffin failed to corral his lone target in the Bears' 41-10 loss to the Lions on Sunday. Griffin is primarily used as a blocker, and he has four catches for 26 yards on the season. It's unlikely he'll have much fantasy production in Week 18 against Minnesota.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Targeted once in defeat

Griffin caught a two-yard pass in the Bears' 35-13 loss to the Bills on Sunday. Griffin has caught four passes for 26 yards on the season, and his lack of usage will make him an unreliable fantasy option in Week 17 against the Lions. He's third on the tight end depth chart and hasn't caught more than one pass in any game this season.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Records one reception

Griffin tallied a five-yard reception in the Bears' 33-14 win over the Patriots on Monday. Griffin now has three catches for 24 yards on six targets over five games played. Playing as the No. 2 tight end in a low-volume passing offense will likely continue to limit his opportunities as a receiver.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Posts no stats in loss

Griffin was targeted once in the Bears' 12-7 loss to the Commanders on Thursday. Griffin was wide open in the end zone on his only target, but Justin Fields overthrew the ball. In four games played this year, Griffin has two catches for 19 yards on five targets, and he's not currently seeing enough targets to be a trusted fantasy option.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Cleared for Week 5

Griffin doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's matchup against the Vikings. Griffin has missed back-to-back games due to an Achilles issue and was limited at practices throughout the week, but he'll still be good to go for Week 5. Across his first two appearances of the season, the veteran tight end caught one of three targets for 18 yards over 41 offensive snaps.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Limited in practice Wednesday

Griffin (Achilles) was listed as a limited participant on the Bears' injury report Wednesday. Griffin did not suit up for Chicago's last two practices and was listed as doubtful before sitting out for the second straight game against the Giants. The 32-year-old has not played since suffering an Achilles injury in Week 2 against the Packers, leaving Trevon Wesco and Jake Tonges to step in behind starting tight end Cole Kmet. Griffin will have two more practices to work his way back before Sunday's game versus the Vikings.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Grounded for Week 4

Griffin (Achilles) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Giants. Griffin was listed as doubtful for Sunday's game, and he will indeed watch the contest from the bench. With Griffin out, Cole Kmet should get as many snaps as he can handle, and Trevon Wesco is set to step in as the backup tight end.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Unlikely to play Sunday

Griffin (Achilles) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Giants. Griffin didn't practice Thursday or Friday after being limited Wednesday and is trending towards a second straight absence due to a lingering Achilles issue. If he's indeed ruled out, Trevon Wesco figures to see an increased role once again in Week 4.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Trending backward

Griffin (Achilles) was a non-participant in practice Thursday. Griffin was unable to suit up in Week 3, but he did log a limited practice Wednesday, suggesting he may be ready for a Week 4 return. However, Griffin's participation level went backward to a DNP on Thursday, leaving the veteran tight end's status in greater doubt. If he is unable to play Sunday against the Giants, Trevon Wesco will likely see increased opportunity once again.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Listed as limited participant

Griffin (Achilles) was a limited participant during practice Wednesday. Griffin presumably picked up the Achilles issue during the team's Week 2 loss to the Packers and didn't practice at all before being ruled out ahead of Week 3. His return to practice is encouraging, but he likely still has a few more hurdles to clear before he's ready to return to game action.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Sits out Wednesday's practice

Griffin (Achilles) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice. Griffin caught one pass for 18 yards during Sunday's loss to the Packers, but he presumably picked up an Achilles injury as well. The extent of the issue remains unclear, but his practice participation Thursday and Friday should provide more clarity on his availability for Week 3.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Targeted once in defeat

Griffin caught one pass for 18 yards in the Bears' 27-10 loss to the Packers on Sunday. Griffin posted his first reception of the season, but he's outpaced teammate Cole Kmet by a 3-2 margin in targets through two games. With Chicago having faced a pair of the top defenses in the NFC in its first two games, it's likely Kmet becomes a focal point of the passing attack while Griffin continues to see occasional targets.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Targeted twice in win

Griffin failed to catch either of his two targets in the Bears' 19-10 win over the 49ers on Sunday. Griffin actually had one more target than starter Cole Kmet. In a game played on drenched field with intermittent heavy rain, the Bears often had two tight ends on the field. Going forward, Griffin will likely see no more than a couple targets per game, but he'd grow into a larger role if Kmet misses time.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Secures top backup role

Griffin is the only tight end on the Bears' roster aside from Cole Kmet, according to the team's official site. With James O'Shaughnessy not making the team, Griffin will be on the field when the Bears use two tight end sets. In addition, should Kmet miss time, Griffin could have streamer value if pushed into a prominent role.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Scores touchdown

Griffin caught a 22-yard touchdown pass in the Bears' 21-20 win against the Browns on Saturday. Griffin played with the first-string offense when the Bears had a second tight end on the field with Cole Kmet. On Griffin's touchdown, the Browns were unable to pressure Justin Fields while in the pocket, while Griffin found an opening in the end zone, which allowed the duo to connect. Based on his usage, it would appear that Griffin has the lead over James O'Shaughnessy for the No. 2 tight end role.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Not expected to suit up Saturday

Griffin (undisclosed) is not expected to play against the Chiefs in Saturday's preseason opener, Alyssa Barbieri of USA Today reports. Griffin was listed with a group of Bears' players who are battling injuries, but no specific issue was cited. He's currently the favorite to be the top backup at tight end behind Cole Kmet. James O'Shaughnessy is Griffin's main competition for the backup role.

  • Bears' Ryan Griffin: Links up with Chicago

Griffin is signing a one-year contract with the Bears, Mark Grote of WSCR Radio reports. Griffin has 67 career starts in 119 regular-season games but likely will fill a depth role with the Bears behind 2020 second-round pick Cole Kmet, who showed signs of progress in the second half of last season. Griffin, meanwhile, caught 27 of 42 targets for 261 yards and two TDs in 14 games (12 starts) for the Jets. He turned 32 earlier this offseason and has never reached 500 yards in a season.

  • Ryan Griffin: Let go by Jets

New York released Griffin on Monday, Randy Lange of the Jets' official site reports. Griffin's release comes as little surprise after the Jets brought in two tight ends in free agency in C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin, who were both on track to slot in ahead of him on the depth chart. The Jets will clear $3 million in cap space by moving on from Griffin, who recorded 27 receptions for 261 yards and two touchdowns on 42 targets over 14 games in 2021.

  • Jets' Ryan Griffin: Shuttered for season

New York placed Griffin (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports. Griffin will miss the Jets' remaining three games of the season after sustaining the knee injury in New York's Week 15 loss to Miami. Though he's the only player on the Jets roster to record a catch in each of the team's first 14 games, Griffin's overall 27-261-2 receiving line didn't translate to much fantasy utility. His absence paves the way for Tyler Kroft to serve as the Jets' clear top tight end during the season's final stanza.
