Akeem Spence: Released by San Fran
The 49ers released Spence (concussion) on Tuesday.
Spence signed with San Francisco at the beginning of August to serve as depth after the team placed Maurice Hurst (biceps) on injured reserve. However, Spence picked up a concussion during the 49ers' preseason finale and won't make the team's initial 53-man roster. The veteran defensive tackle has appeared in only seven games over the last two years, totaling 10 tackles across 108 defensive snaps.

Spence was elevated from the practice squad last week, and now he's an honest member of the 53-man roster. The Patriots needed the depth at nose tackle, as both Byron Cowart (back) and Adam Butler (shoulder) are questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers.

Spence's stint in Philly ends after seven games in which he recorded seven tackles through six contests. The veteran defensive tackle has been on four different teams over the past four seasons, but his experience alone could get him in with a team needing to bolster their defensive line.

Eagles' Akeem Spence: Heading to Philadelphia
Spence signed a one-year contract with the Eagles on Tuesday, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Spence had been without a team since being cut by Miami on Aug. 28. The 27-year-old played in at least 600 defensive snaps over the previous two seasons, collecting 81 total tackles, five sacks and a forced fumble in that span. Spence will provide the Eagles with depth on their defensive front in the wake of Malik Jackson's (foot) placement on injured reserve Tuesday.

Spence is one of a slew of veteran cuts made by Miami on Tuesday, as the team takes the next step in an apparent transition toward youth. The seventh-year defensive tackle played 666 snaps across 16 games in Miami last season and should have little issue latching on as a situational pass rusher elsewhere in the league.

Spence's penalty killed a Miami drive nearing the endzone, and the 26-year-old was ejected from the game. With William Hayes (knee) questionable to return, the Dolphins could be without two key defensive tackles for the remainder of Week 3's matchup.

Dolphins' Akeem Spence: Traded to Dolphins
Spence was traded from the Lions to the Dolphins on Thursday in exchange for an undisclosed 2019 draft pick, Michael Rothstein of ESPN reports.
Spence recorded 39 tackles (19 solo) and three sacks while logging a career-high 661 snaps on defense. However, new head coach Matt Patricia likes to employ multiple defensive fronts and it appears Spence didn't fit the mold of a player Patricia wants along the defensive line. As a result, Spence will join a Miami front that lost the services of Ndamukong Suh this offseason, putting Spence in a good situation for playing time. The Lions restructured Spence's three-year deal earlier in the day, which has two years remaining on it as he heads to Miami.
