  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Surgery completed

Cunningham underwent successful surgery Friday to stabilize and promote healing of his left tibial stress fracture, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic reports. Cunningham will miss the remainder of the 2022-23 season but is expected to return to full basketball activities this offseason. Killian Hayes should be locked in as Detroit's starting point guard the rest of the way while Cunningham is sidelined, and the second-year guard's continued absence should also free up more touches on offense for Bojan Bogdanovic, Jaden Ivey, Alec Burks and Saddiq Bey. Cunningham finishes his sophomore campaign with averages of 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.4 three-pointers, 0.8 steals and 0.6 blocks in 33.3 minutes across 12 games.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Requires season-ending surgery

Cunningham (shin) will undergo season-ending surgery, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Cunningham has been out since early November due to a left shin injury, and he hinted in early December that surgery could be on the table. The 21-year-old took jumpers during pregame warmups last week, but he'll require a season-ending procedure after consulting with medical professionals. He's expected to fully recover in time for training camp ahead of the 2023-24 season, while Killian Hayes and Jaden Ivey should continue to see increased roles in Detroit's backcourt for the remainder of the year.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Puts up shots Tuesday

Cunningham (shin) was spotted taking jumpers in pregame warmups ahead of Tuesday's 116-96 win over the Cavaliers, Mike Curtis of The Detroit News reports. Though putting up some shots isn't a high-intensity activity, Cunningham's participation in warmups is still somewhat perplexing, given that he's believed to be dealing with a stress fracture to his left shin that could eventually require surgery. Pistons head coach Dwane Casey has provided little insight into the team's plans for the second-year guard, telling Curtis on Monday that "nothing has changed" concerning his timeline for a return. While Cunningham doesn't appear to have been shut down from basketball-related activities entirely, he'll likely need to resume practicing in some capacity before his return can be viewed as imminent. Cunningham's fantasy managers in redraft leagues are left with few appealing options other than attempting to trade him or hoping he eventually gains clearance to play within the next several weeks.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Could require shin surgery

Cunningham, who has missed Detroit's last 12 games with left shin soreness, may require surgery to address the injury, Keith Langlois of the Pistons' official site reports. "It's up to the medical group and to Cade and whatever is best for his health," Casey said. "I'm all for it. Whatever he decides to do, I'm 100 percent behind him." Though Casey didn't specifically say that surgery could be a possibility for Cunningham, James L. Edwards III and Shams Charania of The Athletic reported back on Nov. 19 that the second-year guard is feared to be dealing with a stress fracture to his shin that could require a procedure. For now, the Pistons are labeling Cunningham as out indefinitely, leaving open the possibility that he'll be able to play again at some point in 2022-23 if his shin responds well to extended rest. Surgery, on the other hand, would almost certainly spell an end to Cunningham's season and continue to open up more opportunities in the backcourt for the likes of Killian Hayes and Jaden Ivey.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Out indefinitely

Cunningham (lower leg) is feared to have suffered a stress fracture in his shin and will be sidelined indefinitely, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic reports. The team is considering both the rest and surgery routes for Cunningham. The Pistons are expected to invest in the 2021 No. 1 overall pick's future health and have no intention of rushing him back, which makes sense for a rebuilding Detroit squad. In his absence, the likes of Killian Hayes, Cory Joseph and Alec Burks could see expanded roles. Cunningham was off to a strong start to the season with averages of 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.4 triples, 0.8 steals and 0.6 blocks across 33.3 minutes per game.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Re-evaluated in one week

Cunningham will miss at least one week of action due to left shin soreness, Mike Curtis of The Detroit News reports. Cunningham is slated to sit out Saturday's matchup against the Celtics along with the Pistons' next three games due to the injury. If all goes well, Cunningham would be in line to return Nov. 20 for a game against the Kings. Cory Joseph replaced Cunningham in the starting lineup Friday, though he saw just six minutes amid foul trouble. Killian Hayes and Alec Burks (conditioning) may be bigger beneficiaries of the former No. 1 pick's absence.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Out again Saturday

Cunningham (lower leg) is out Saturday against the Celtics. Left shin soreness will keep the sophomore out for a second straight game. Cory Joseph started in his absence Friday, but Killian Hayes saw the biggest minutes increase.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Downgraded to out

Cunningham (lower leg) won't play in Friday's game versus the Knicks. Cunningham's left shin soreness popped up following Wednesday's contest against the Celtics, and the issue will apparently warrant at least a game on the sidelines. Killian Hayes and Cory Joseph are in line for increased backcourt roles with the 2021 No. 1 pick out. Cunningham won't have to wait long for his next opportunity to play Saturday versus the Celtics.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Labeled questionable for Friday

Cunningham is considered questionable for Friday's game against the Knicks due to left shin soreness. It's unclear if the shin soreness played any role in Cunningham's off night from the field Wednesday, and it also may help explain why he was limited to a season-low 24 minutes in the contest. If he can't suit up, the Pistons could go with rookie Jaden Ivey on the ball or add one of Killian Hayes or Corey Joseph to the lineup.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Uncharacteristic off night

Cunningham supplied four points (1-11 FG, 0-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, two assists and one block in 24 minutes during Wednesday's 128-112 loss to the Celtics. Cunningham hadn't finished in single digits all season before Wednesday's contest and had tallied 20-plus points more often than not. The effort is also a bit disappointing coming off a near triple-double against the Thunder last time out. The second-year guard has made strides in his game during his second season, upping his averages almost across the board, but he still has some work to do from beyond the arc, connecting on just 27.9 percent of his attempts thus far. That was on full display Wednesday when he failed to hit any of his six attempts.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Teases triple-double in win

Cunningham provided 21 points (8-21 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 11 rebounds, seven assists and one block in 36 minutes during Monday's 112-103 victory over the Thunder. The second-year point guard posted his third double-double of the season and second involving rebounds. Cunningham is emerging as the superstar Detroit thought it was getting when it selected him first overall in the 2021 Draft, averaging 21.4 points, 6.5 boards, 6.4 assists, 1.5 threes and 0.9 steals through 11 games.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Stuffs stat line

Cunningham ended Friday's 112-88 loss to the Cavaliers with 19 points (7-18 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 2-3 FT), five rebounds, five assists, one block and one steal across 31 minutes. Cunningham's shooting woes continued into this one, though he looked better from beyond the arc, where he went 0-for-2 Wednesday against the Bucks. He's struggled to a 32-for-74 mark from the field over his last four contests, though fantasy managers shouldn't be too worried, as the opportunities will continue to be there for the second-year guard.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Poor shooting in loss

Cunningham closed Wednesday's 116-91 loss to Milwaukee with 10 points (5-13 FG, 0-2 3Pt), six rebounds, four assists and one steal over 31 minutes. Cunningham posted his worst scoring figures of the season, and this poor outing snapped his run of four games with 20 or more points. The athletic point guard has been Detroit's best player this season, though, and there's a strong chance this was just a poor outing rather than the norm going forward. However, Cunningham won't have an easy scenario to bounce back, as he will take on a red-hot Cavaliers team that has won six games in a row Friday.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Near triple-double in win

Cunningham amassed 23 points (9-20 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 10 rebounds, nine assists and one block in 39 minutes during Sunday's 128-114 victory over Golden State. While Cunningham missed eight of his last nine shot attempts, he made up for it by dishing out seven assists in the second half. The 21-year-old has had an impressive three-game stretch, averaging 28.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 7.7 assists while making 50.0 percent of his shot attempts. He appears to have taken another step forward after a strong rookie campaign last season.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Sniffs triple-double in loss

Cunningham provided 35 points (14-23 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 7-8 FT), nine rebounds, eight assists and one steal in 33 minutes during Friday's 136-112 loss to the Hawks. The Pistons have endured a tough start, but Cunningham can't be the one to blame for the struggles. The second-year guard has been nothing but extraordinary in the opening two weeks of the campaign. Even though Cunningham ended just one rebound and two dimes away from a triple-double, this was his best performance this season while surpassing the 30-point mark for the first time in 2022-23. He has also scored at least 20 points in three of his last four appearances.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Sniffs 20-point mark in loss

Cunningham contributed 19 points (7-19 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 5-6 FT), three rebounds, three assists and one steal over 32 minutes during Tuesday's 120-99 loss to the Wizards. Cunningham has now scored at least 15 points in each of his first four games, but he's also delivered solid numbers in other categories as well. It's been a strong start to the season for the second-year guard, though fantasy managers would certainly hope for an uptick in terms of efficiency, as he's shooting just 38.6 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from three-point range to start the year.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Productive in loss to Knicks

Cunningham closed with 15 points (6-16 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 2-4 FT), eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals over 32 minutes during Friday's 130-106 loss to the Knicks. After posting a double-double against the Magic on Wednesday to kick off his second NBA season, Cunningham was all over the stat sheet again in this one. The 21-year-old guard can make a fantasy impact in a variety of ways, and with more help on offense following the offseason additions of Jaden Ivey and Bojan Bogdanovic, Cunningham could see his production in boards, assists and defensive stats all rise.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Dishes out 10 assists

Cunningham scored 18 points (6-16 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT) to go along with 10 assists, one rebound and a steal over 35 minutes during Wednesday's 113-109 win over the Magic. Cunningham didn't have the best night shooting the ball, but he made up for it by facilitating the offense. The team's first four points came off assists from Cunningham, setting up easy two-point buckets for Jaden Ivey and Isaiah Stewart. The Pistons guard came out in the third and hit 4-of-7 shots in the quarter to go along with another three dimes to extend Detroit's lead. Cunningham did, however, miss all five of his shots in the fourth quarter.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Rough shooting night in loss

Cunningham compiled 15 points (5-16 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 3-3 FT), six rebounds and six assists in 29 minutes in Thursday's 126-111 loss to Memphis. Cunningham made four of his first eight shot attempts but lost his touch and missed seven of his last eight tries. The 21-year-old has struggled from the field all preseason and is just 18-for-49 shooting and 5-for-21 from beyond the arc. While he's scoring only 10.5 points per game in the preseason, he's found other ways to be productive and is averaging 5.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists in four contests.

  • Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Five defensive counters in loss

Cunningham totaled 10 points (3-13 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), eight rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks in 29 minutes during Tuesday's loss to Oklahoma City. Cunningham struggled with his shot in the loss but still walked away with a tasty line, including five defensive contributions. After a strong rookie campaign, Cunningham has caught the attention of fantasy managers, resulting in a leap up the rankings. For anyone keen on acquiring the athletic sophomore, a selection in the second or third round is looking like the price required.
