Top Mike Muscala News

  • Wizards' Mike Muscala: Sees 18 minutes

Muscala notched five points (2-3 FG, 1-2 3Pt), six rebounds, four assists and two blocks in 18 minutes during Saturday's 136-108 loss to the Hawks.

The 18 minutes was the second largest workload of the season for Muscala, as the Wizards were blown out by the Hawks pretty quickly. For that reason, starting center Daniel Gafford saw only 18 minutes as well. Muscala is usually on the fringe of the rotation and has yet to score in double figures this season.

  • Wizards' Mike Muscala: Heads back to bench Friday

Muscala is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Heat, Josh Robbins of The Athletic reports.

Muscala will move to his regular bench role following the return of Daniel Gafford, who is back in action following a two-game absence. Muscala logged seven points and four rebounds in his lone start of the season against the Hawks on Wednesday.

  • Wizards' Mike Muscala: Starting Wednesday

Muscala is part of the first unit for Wednesday's game against the Hawks.

After seeing only eight and 11 minutes in his only two appearances this season, Muscala will step into the starting center role with Daniel Gafford (hip) sidelined. Though it's unclear if Muscala will receive starter minutes, he's worth a look as a streamer.

  • Wizards' Mike Muscala: Lifts bench in preseason win

Muscala posted 20 points (7-10 FG, 5-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT) and eight rebounds over 25 minutes in Wednesday's 131-106 preseason win over New York.

Muscala had a strong showing from deep while leading all bench players in Wednesday's preseason contest in scoring and rebounds while finishing two boards short of a double-double. Entering his first season with Washington this year, Muscala has averaged 13.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists over 21.5 minutes in two preseason contests.

  • Wizards' Mike Muscala: Thrown into Porzingis deal

The Celtics traded Muscala and Danilo Gallinari to the Wizards on Wednesday as part of a three-team deal including Kristaps Porzingis, Tyus Jones and Marcus Smart, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Though Jones and a draft pick were the main acquisitions for Washington, Gallinari and Muscala were both shipped to the Wizards as part of the blockbuster deal. Per Bobby Marks of ESPN.com, the Wizards exercised Muscala's $3.5 million team option, and he will likely be part of the rebuilding roster. Though Washington is almost certainly going to add frontcourt pieces through the draft and free agency, Muscala's current competition consists of Daniel Gafford and Taj Gibson at the center spot. Though it's unclear how large of a role Muscala will play with the Wizards, he has shown the ability to be impactful on rebuilding rosters in the past, posting at least 8.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game in 2020-21 and 2021-22 with the Thunder while shooting 37.0 percent and 42.9 percent from deep in each respective season.

  • Celtics' Mike Muscala: Back to bench for Game 1

Muscala will appear off the bench in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference First Round matchup versus the Hawks on Saturday, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports.

Muscala drew a start in the regular-season finale and finished with a season-high 27 points in the contest. However, he'll return to his usual depth role and doesn't carry nearly as much fantasy upside in his reserve role.

  • Celtics' Mike Muscala: Nears double-double in start

Muscala ended Sunday's 120-114 victory over the Hawks with 27 points (9-13 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 5-7 FT), eight rebounds and two assists in 33 minutes.

Muscala got the start in Sunday's victory, finishing second on the team in scoring while finishing two rebounds shy of a double-double and three points short of reaching the 30-point mark. Muscala posted a season high in scoring, now having hauled in at least five rebounds in three straight games. However, he should see fewer opportunities during the playoffs as long as Al Horford (back) and Robert Williams (knee) are able to suit up.

  • Celtics' Mike Muscala: Will start Sunday

Muscala will start Sunday's matchup against the Hawks, Jared Weiss of The Athletic reports.

The Celtics locked up the No. 2 seed and are resting a majority of their regulars, so Muscala gets the start at power forward and will joined by Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, Sam Hauser and Blake Griffin. Across his previous eight starts this season, Muscala has averaged 11.1 points and 5.5 rebounds in 26.3 minutes per game.

  • Celtics' Mike Muscala: Struggles in loss

Muscala delivered zero points (0-1 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and one assist over nine minutes during Tuesday's 130-111 loss at Washington.

Over Boston's last 10 games, Muscala has four DNP-Coach's Decisions and scored zero points in four appearances. Tuesday's appearance was mostly in garbage time, with the Wizards' victory well in hand. The trade deadline acquisition has struggled to find a consistent role for the Celtics after some early success in mid-February. Expect Muscala's minutes to be minimal through the end of the regular season.

Muscala (knee) is available for Wednesday's game versus the Cavaliers.

Muscala has been upgraded from questionable to available and will suit up for a second straight matchup following a three-game absence due to right knee tendinopathy. He'll presumably serve a modest reserve role behind Robert Williams, Al Horford and Grant Williams.
