Charles signed a one-year, minor-league contract with the Orioles on Monday, Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan Baltimore reports. Charles had been included on the Athletics' 40-man roster for the bulk of the past two seasons before he was outrighted in August. He endured a rough 2022 campaign at Double-A Midland, submitting a 11.43 ERA and 2.57 WHIP across 37 innings. The Orioles will take a flier on the 26-year-old right-hander with the hope that the change of scenery can help him solve the command and control woes that plagued him a season ago.... See More ... Athletics' Wandisson Charles: Dropped from 40-man roster
The Athletics outrighted Charles to Double-A Midland on Sunday after designating him for assignment Friday. Oakland dropped Charles from its 40-man roster to clear a spot for infielder David MacKinnon, whom the team claimed off waivers from the Angels. A 25-year-old right-hander, Charles has yet to appear above the Double-A level and has found little success in 2022 after having missed the entire past two seasons. Over his 32 innings at Midland this season, Charles has posted a 10.41 ERA, 2.38 WHIP and 31:33 K:BB.... See More ... See Less -

Charles (undisclosed) was optioned to Double-A Midland on Sunday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Charles arrived at camp Sunday after dealing with visa issues, but he'll work with the team's minor leaguers ahead of the regular season. He missed the entire 2021 campaign with an unspecified injury, and it's not yet clear whether he's healthy this spring.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Wandisson Charles: Dealing with visa issues
Charles (undisclosed) will be a late arrival to spring training due to visa issues, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Charles didn't pitch in 2021 due to an undisclosed injury, and he'll be unable to join the Athletics for the start of spring training since he remains in the Dominican Republic. It's not yet clear whether he'll be healthy once he ultimately reports to camp, but he'll likely begin the 2022 campaign in the minors.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Wandisson Charles: Out with undisclosed injury
Charles has not pitched this year due an undisclosed injury. The hard-throwing righty is currently on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Las Vegas. He last logged a 1.88 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 17 strikeouts in 14.1 innings as a reliever at Double-A in 2019.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Wandisson Charles: Bound for minors
The Athletics optioned Charles to Double-A Midland on Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Charles was one of sevem Athletics players optioned to the minors in the team's first round of roster cuts. Oakland added Charles to its 40-man roster earlier in the offseason, but that move was largely made to protect him from the Rule 5 draft rather than an indication his big-league debut was imminent. The 24-year-old has only pitched 14.1 innings above the High-A level.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Wandisson Charles: Shielded from Rule 5 draft
Charles' contract was selected by Oakland on Friday. The move protects the righty from the Rule 5 draft. Charles spent all of 2020 working out at the Athletics' alternate training site. The 24-year-old has yet to advance beyond Double-A but produced a 2.89 ERA in 62.1 innings of relief across three levels in 2019, with his 35.1 percent strikeout rate generally overcoming a 16.2 percent walk rate.... Athletics' Wandisson Charles: In 60-player pool
Charles was added to the Athletics' 60-player roster pool Wednesday. The 23-year-old wasn't included on the first list released by the team, but he'll end up reporting to the A's alternate site for summer camp. Charles earned a promotion to Double-A in late July and finished with a 1.88 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 17:5 K:BB across 14.1 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Wandisson Charles: Demoted to minor-league camp
Charles was reassigned to minor-league camp Thursday, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. The 23-year-old was among five pitchers removed from the Athletics' big-league camp Thursday.
