Reds' Brandon Williamson: Out until late May
Reds manager David Bell said Wednesday that Williamson (shoulder) will likely be sidelined until late May, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Williamson has been on the shelf since mid-March with a left shoulder strain and it's unclear whether he has begun a throwing program. The southpaw had been in contention for a spot in the Reds' rotation before the injury and could be under consideration again, but he'll need to get healthy first.

Reds' Brandon Williamson: Shifts to injured list
The Reds placed Williamson (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
The left-hander exited his March 17 start with a left shoulder strain and won't be available to begin the regular season. Williamson was expected to be shut down from throwing for a few days, but it's unclear where he currently stands in his recovery. Andrew Abbott is rounding out Cincinnati's rotation, at least until Nick Lodolo (lower leg) is ready.

Reds' Brandon Williamson: Bound for injured list
Williamson (shoulder) will begin the season on the injured list, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Williamson left Sunday's game against Cleveland early due to shoulder soreness, and his injury is apparently severe enough to cause him to miss the first few weeks of the regular season. Manager David Bell said Tuesday that Williamson will be shut down from throwing for a couple of days, and there is no timetable currently in place for his return. With Williamson out, Andrew Abbott will fill the final spot in the Reds' Opening Day rotation.

Reds' Brandon Williamson: Competing for rotation spot
Reds manager David Bell said Monday that Williamson (shoulder) is competing with Andrew Abbott for the fifth spot in the rotation, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
Bell also added that Williamson is feeling better after having to exit an appearance Sunday with a sore left shoulder, although it's not clear when he might be cleared to pitch again. Whoever wins the fifth spot might just be keeping the seat warm for Nick Lodolo (lower leg), who could be back by April 10.

Williamson left Sunday's spring training game against the Guardians with shoulder soreness, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Manager David Bell revealed why Williamson had to leave the game early. The pitcher was taken out of the game due to soreness in his left shoulder. The Reds are hopeful that it is nothing serious. In three spring training appearances, the 25-year-old had allowed four earned runs with nine strikeouts and zero walks in 9.0 innings.

Reds' Brandon Williamson: Makes second spring appearance
Williamson allowed three runs on five hits and struck out three over three innings in Friday's spring start against Arizona.
This was Williamson's second Cactus League appearance and first start. The Diamondbacks touched him for runs in the first two innings, before the left-hander ripped off a perfect third frame. Williamson was included as the fifth starter in the latest roster projection from Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. That represents a change from Sheldon's first projection, which had Nick Lodolo (tibia) at the back end of the rotation. Recent news that Lodolo will undergo additional testing clouds the final spot.

Reds' Brandon Williamson: Nabs fifth win
Williamson (5-5) earned the win in Friday's 19-2 victory in St. Louis after allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out two.
Williamson cruised to an easy win thanks to massive run support, but he still delivered his first quality start since Aug. 29 and first win since Aug. 7. The 25-year-old lefty will end his rookie campaign with a 4.46 ERA and a 98:39 K:BB through 117 frames. Williamson registered a 5.55 ERA over his final five starts.

Reds' Brandon Williamson: Pulled in fifth frame
Williamson did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over 4.1 innings against Pittsburgh. He struck out three.
Williamson allowed only two baserunners through four innings but was tagged by a Jack Suwinski solo homer to lead off the fifth. Williamson then allowed a one-out double to Henry Davis followed by an RBI single by Jason Delay and was removed after 74 pitches. Following a stretch during which he worked into the sixth in eight of nine starts, Williamson has failed to get through the fifth in each of his last three appearances. The rookie has started 22 games for the Reds spanning 111 innings and will carry a 4.54 ERA into his final start of the regular season, scheduled to take place next weekend in St. Louis.

Williamson (4-5) yielded three runs on six hits and a walk over four innings Sunday, striking out two and taking a loss against the Mets.
Williamson began the game with a pair of scoreless frames before coughing up three runs in the third. In two starts since returning from the COVID-19 injured list, he's allowed eight runs in eight innings. He's produced a 4.68 ERA in eight outings since the start of August. Williamson's next start is projected to be at home against the Pirates.

Williamson ended with a no-decision against Arizona on Thursday, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out six batters over six scoreless innings.
All six of the hits against Williamson were singles, and he picked up his fifth quality start of the campaign. The southpaw struck out exactly six batters for the third straight game, and he's pitched well over that stretch despite not picking up any wins, posting a 2.60 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB over 17.1 innings. Williamson has had a few blow-ups this season but has been mostly consistent, giving up three or fewer earned runs in 14 of his 18 outings. He's at a 4.18 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 82:33 K:BB over 92.2 frames overall.

Reds' Brandon Williamson: Allows four runs in loss
Williamson (4-3) took the loss Saturday, allowing four runs on nine hits and one walk over 5.2 innings against Toronto. He struck out six.
Williamson allowed nine hits to Toronto, eight of which were singles, including a string of three consecutive run-scoring base knocks in the fourth inning. The one extra-base hit surrendered by the 25-year-old was a fifth-inning solo homer by Davis Schneider, which gave the Blue Jays a 4-3 lead and proved to be the difference. After a challenging start to his rookie campaign, Williamson has pitched well since the start of July, posting a 3.38 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 47:15 K:BB across 48 innings. He lines up to face Arizona on the road next week.
