Cruz signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Tuesday. It's not clear whether he's been given an invitation to major-league spring training. Cruz, who turns 28 in April, made seven appearances with Atlanta last season, posting a 6.23 ERA. He'll likely begin 2023 at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.... See More ... See Less

Jesus Cruz: Enters free agency
Cruz elected to become a free agent Tuesday. After finding minimal opportunities in the majors during the 2022 season, Cruz was sent outright to Triple-A Gwinnett in early August. He will now look for his next opportunity elsewhere in 2023 following a season in which he posted a 6.23 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 8.2 major-league innings.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Jesus Cruz: Outrighted to Triple-A
Cruz was outrighted to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday. Cruz owns a 6.23 ERA and 6:4 K:BB in 8.2 major-league innings this season. Now that he's no longer on the 40-man roster, he's one step further away from getting his next chance at the highest level.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Jesus Cruz: Optioned to Triple-A
Cruz was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. Cruz will return to Gwinnett after being called up Tuesday and allowing five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one over 2.2 innings Thursday against the Phillies. The move was made in conjunction with Silvino Bracho joining the big-league bullpen after he was acquired via trade from the Red Sox on Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Jesus Cruz: Returns to majors
Cruz was recalled by Atlanta on Tuesday. Cruz was optioned eight days ago but is needed again with Kenley Jansen (heart) hitting the injured list. During his previous stint in the big-league bullpen, Cruz allowed one run in six innings of work.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Jesus Cruz: Exits big-league bullpen
Atlanta optioned Cruz to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. With MLB limiting teams to carrying 13 pitchers on active rosters beginning Monday, Cruz found himself as the odd man out for Atlanta. He'll be replaced on the roster by first baseman/designated hitter Mike Ford. Cruz was effective during his three-week stint with the big club, covering six innings in relief while giving up one run on four hits and two walks.... See More ... See Less -
Jesus Cruz: Released by Cardinals
Cruz was released by the Cardinals on Thursday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Cruz made a relief appearance for the Cardinals in 2020 but spent the entire 2021 campaign at Triple-A Memphis. The right-hander gave up five runs in 2.2 innings across two relief appearances this spring, and he'll now part ways with the club. If he finds a new landing spot, he'll presumably serve as organizational depth.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jesus Cruz: Clears waivers
Cruz cleared waivers Friday and was outrighted to the Cardinals' alternate training site. Cruz made his big-league debut this season, allowing two runs in one inning against the Cubs back in mid-August. He'll remain in an organizational depth role for the Cardinals going forward.... Cardinals' Jesus Cruz: Cast off 40-man roster
Cruz was designated for assignment by the Cardinals on Tuesday. Cruz was working at the alternate site recently, but he'll now be removed from the Cardinals' 40-man roster after Ryan Helsley (not injury related) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday. The right-hander has made just one major-league appearance this year, surrendering two runs over one inning.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jesus Cruz: Sent to alternate training site
Cruz was optioned to the alternate training site after Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cubs. Cruz had his contract selected by the Cardinals on Tuesday and surrendered two runs over one inning during his major-league debut. Johan Oviedo had his contract selected in a corresponding move and will start Wednesday's nightcap.... See More ... See Less -
Cardinals' Jesus Cruz: Contract selected Tuesday
Cruz's contract was selected by the Cardinals on Tuesday. Cruz was added to the Cardinals' 60-man roster pool Aug. 6, and he'll now join the major-league roster, likely as a low-leverage reliever. The 25-year-old posted a 6.24 ERA and 1.61 WHIP over 57.2 innings with Triple-A Memphis last season. Southpaw Rob Kaminsky was optioned to alternate camp in a corresponding move.... See More ... Cardinals' Jesus Cruz: Included in roster pool
The Cardinals added Cruz to their 60-man roster pool Aug. 6. Cruz reported to the Cardinals' alternate training site in Springfield, adding pitching depth to a St. Louis staff that is down several members of the 40-man roster following a surge in positive COVID-19 tests earlier this month. The 25-year-old pitched exclusively in relief for Triple-A Memphis in 2019, posting a 6.24 ERA and 1.61 WHIP over 57.2 innings.... See More ... See Less
