Nationals' Robert Garcia: Collects first big-league win
Garcia (1-2) picked up the win in Sunday's extra-innings victory over the Brewers, allowing one hit and two walks over two scoreless innings. He struck out one.
Working the 10th and 11th frames, Garcia kept the phantom runner from crossing the plate each time and got rewarded with his first MLB win. Nationals' Robert Garcia: Reporting to big club
The Nationals activated Garcia ahead of Wednesday's game against the Brewers, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
Garcia, whom the Nationals claimed off waivers from the Marlins on Tuesday, had been pitching at Triple-A Jacksonville, but Washington will immediately take a look at him at the big-league level. He previously made his MLB debut with Miami earlier in the season but has otherwise made 31 of his 32 appearances at Jacksonville, where he's accrued a 2.85 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 62:22 K:BB across 41 innings.... Garcia was claimed off waivers by the Nationals on Tuesday.
Garcia was recently removed from Miami's 40-man roster and will now join a new organization. The 27-year-old recorded just one out during his big-league debut July 14 and has a 2.85 ERA in 31 outings at the Triple-A level this season.... See More ... See Less
Marlins' Robert Garcia: Returns to Jacksonville
Garcia has made three appearances for Triple-A Jacksonville since being optioned to the affiliate July 18, striking out seven over 3.2 innings while allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and one walk.
Garcia earned his first big-league call-up July 7 and spent a week and a half with the Marlins before losing his spot on the 26-man active roster. He retains a spot on the Marlins' 40-man roster and could be in store for another promotion before season's end if he continues to excel out of the Jacksonville bullpen. Marlins' Robert Garcia: Recalled from Triple-A
The Marlins selected Garcia's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Garcia has had a solid season in Jacksonville so far, putting up a 2.95 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with 54 strikeouts through 36.2 innings. The 27-year-old southpaw will be making his MLB debut when he gets into a game, and he could be in the mix for some high-leverage outings down the line if his impressive strikeout rate translates to the majors.
