Contreras signed a minor-league contract with the Red Sox on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports. Contreras spent the majority of the 2023 season with the Triple-A affiliate of the Twins, slashing .274/.352/.418 with 10 home runs and 23 stolen bases over 90 games. The 28-year-old will function as organizational outfield depth for Boston leading into the 2024 campaign.... See More ... See Less

Twins' Mark Contreras: Shifted to minor-league camp
Contreras was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Twins on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. Contreras was able to crack the big leagues last season, but he struggled to a .121/.148/.293 slash line over 61 plate appearances. He had a solid spring, but he will need to prove he can maintain his success at the plate in Triple-A before he returns to Minneapolis.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Mark Contreras: Outrighted to Triple-A
Contreras cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday. Contreras was recently designated for assignment by the Twins but is poised to stay in the organization. The 27-year-old made his big-league debut in 2022 and had a .121/.148/.293 slash line and 34.4 percent strikeout rate in 61 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Mark Contreras: Designated for assignment
Contreras was designated for assignment by the Twins on Tuesday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. Contreras will be the one to make way as the Twins as new signing Joey Gallo to the 40-man roster. The 27-year-old didn't do much in his first taste of the big leagues last season, hitting .121/.148/.293 with 21 strikeouts and just one walk in 61 trips to the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Mark Contreras: Recalled from Triple-A
Contreras was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. With Kyle Garlick moving to the injured list, Contreras will return to the big leagues. He's recorded a .801 OPS in 120 plate appearances since being optioned down in early August and will provide temporary depth to the Twins' outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Mark Contreras: Optioned to Triple-A
Contreras was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday. With Max Kepler (toe) returning to the roster, Contreras' latest stint in the majors has come to an end. Contreras has been on the shuttle back and forth for most of the season. He has a .710 OPS with St. Paul but just a .475 OPS in 12 big-league games.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Mark Contreras: Opens scoring with homer
Contreras went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Blue Jays. Contreras hit his second homer in four games, both of which came in the third inning of those contests. Those long balls are his only hits through 16 at-bats in August, though he's started in five straight games as the Twins' outfield remains plagued by injuries. The 27-year-old is hitting .120 with four RBI and five runs scored through 26 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Mark Contreras: Hits first big-league homer
Contreras went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Tigers. Contreras opened the scoring in the third inning with his first big-league homer in his ninth career game. The 27-year-old showed modest power in the minors, hitting 10 games in 73 contests at Triple-A St. Paul this year. With the Twins, he's batting .125 with three RBI and four runs scored in 17 plate appearances. Contreras is probably going to see inconsistent playing time while the Twins are short on outfield depth.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Mark Contreras: Optioned and recalled
The Twins optioned Contreras to Triple-A St. Paul after Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Padres, then they recalled him ahead of Monday's game against the Tigers. Minnesota elected to reverse the transaction it made hours earlier due to the team requiring another depth option in the outfield with Gilberto Celestino (personal) landing on the paternity list Monday. Once Celestino likely rejoins the team Thursday, Contreras will presumably head back to St. Paul at that time.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Mark Contreras: Summoned from Triple-A
The Twins recalled Contreras from Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Contreras was sent down by the Twins in late June, and he slashed .160/.220/.333 with three home runs, 12 RBI, 10 runs and four stolen bases over 21 minor-league games following his demotion. However, he'll provide additional outfield depth in the majors after Max Kepler (toe) was placed on the 10-day injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Mark Contreras: Back in big leagues
Contreras was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. It will be Contreras' third time in the majors this season, and he appeared in three games between those two stints. The 27-year-old will serve as outfield depth with Trevor Larnach (abdomen) heading to the injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Mark Contreras: Sent down Monday
Contreras was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Monday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. The 27-year-old joined the Twins for their weekend series in Toronto while Max Kepler was on the restricted list. Contreras went 0-for-4 with an RBI and three strikeouts during his most recent stint with the big-league club but will head back to the minors after Kepler was activated Monday.... See More ... Twins' Mark Contreras: Back in majors
Contreras was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday. He is up to provide outfield depth during this weekend's series in Toronto, as Max Kepler is on the restricted list. Contreras is hitting .271/.354/.443 with two home runs and a 30.4 K% in his last 70 at-bats at Triple-A.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Mark Contreras: Reports back to minors
The Twins optioned Contreras to Triple-A St. Paul on Monday. Though Minnesota hasn't announced a corresponding transaction, Contreras' demotion to the minors likely foreshadows Kyle Garlick's (calf) return from the 10-day injured list. After receiving his first career call-up Tuesday, Contreras saw action in two games, going 0-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI across three plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Mark Contreras: Earns first call-up
Contreras' contract was selected by the Twins on Saturday. Contreras, a 27-year-old outfielder, has yet to make his major-league debut. He's hit .239/.350/.489 in 26 games for Triple-A St. Paul this season, adding five homers and five steals. He'll likely fill a bench role for now.... See More ... See Less
