Charlie Barnes: Signs with Lotte
Barnes signed with the Lotte Giants of the KBO on Thursday, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
Barnes split the 2021 season between Triple-A St. Paul and the Twins, pitching primarily as a starter. While he experienced some success in the minors, he posted only a 5.92 ERA and 1.63 WHIP across 38 innings with the big-league club. As a result, he was designated for assignment in mid-November. With his future in question stateside, he'll now seek a new opportunity in the KBO and should have a chance to stick in the rotation with Lotte.

Twins' Charlie Barnes: Outrighted to Triple-A
Barnes cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
Barnes was designated for assignment by the Twins on Friday, but he'll remain in the organization. The southpaw made 16 starts in St. Paul last year and logged a 3.79 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 76 innings. However, it wouldn't be surprising to see him in the mix for a major-league roster spot in 2022.

Barnes made his major-league debut during the 2021 campaign and recorded a 5.92 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in 38 innings across nine appearances (eight starts) with the Twins. He'll now lose his spot on the 40-man roster to make room for several prospects who will be protected from the Rule 5 draft.

The southpaw wasn't exactly sharp in throwing 45 of 71 pitches for strikes, but he left the game with the Twins ahead 4-3. This was originally expected to be a spot start for the 25-year-old, but with Joe Ryan having left the first game after being struck on the wrist by a comebacker, Barnes could be needed in the rotation beyond Tuesday. His 6.61 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 15:12 K:BB through 31.1 big-league innings this year offer no fantasy upside if he does stick around, however.

Barnes allowed three earned runs on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts through four innings, taking a no-decision in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Brewers.
Barnes allowed just one hit through his first four innings on Saturday but failed to record an out in a brutal top of the fifth. After sitting in the dugout for an eternity while Brewers' starter Adrian Houser had his own issues, Barnes allowed the first four batters he faced in the frame to reach on a walk and three singles before getting the hook. While giving up three earned runs in four innings is nobody's idea of a dream start, the left-hander didn't allow an extra-base hit. After he got shelled by the Yankees to the tune of seven earned runs his last time out, this latest start from the rookie can be seen as a slight improvement.

Since moving into the Minnesota rotation Aug. 4, Barnes had stumbled to the tune of a 7.54 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 4.8 K/9 in five outings. With Randy Dobnak (finger) potentially on track to return from the 60-day injured list this week and with prospect Joe Ryan making a compelling case for a promotion to the big leagues, the Twins have at least two appealing candidates on hand to replace Barnes when his next turn in the rotation comes up Wednesday against the Cubs.

Twins' Charlie Barnes: Stumbles in loss to Yankees
Barnes (0-3) allowed seven runs on eight hits and five walks with two strikeouts in five innings Friday, taking the loss versus the Yankees.
The 25-year-old yielded four runs in the first inning as the Yankees manufactured an early rally. Barnes' start didn't get a lot better after that, as he gave up a two-run home run to Aaron Judge in the second, but he was able to labor through five innings to match his longest appearance of the year. The southpaw has an ugly 6.56 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 11:10 K:BB across his first 23.1 major-league innings. He's projected for another tough matchup next week in Boston.

After Barnes was lit up for five runs over four innings in an Aug. 4 start against the Reds, the Twins elected to have Beau Burrows work as an opener in front of the lefty Monday, when his next turn in the rotation came up. Though Barnes covered the bulk of the innings for Minnesota, he didn't factor into the decision after Burrows put the Twins in a 7-0 hole after two innings. Barnes wasn't especially effective while moping up for Minnesota, but the team's lack of appealing starting options could allow the 25-year-old to maintain his spot in the rotation for the time being.

Barnes (0-2) allowed five runs on seven hits and a pair of walks while striking out two in four innings, taking the loss in Wednesday's 6-5 defeat against the Reds.
Barnes held the Tigers to one run in 4.1 innings in his first start July 17 but was much less effective this time around. Though Barnes only yielded one extra-base hit, the Reds still managed to put five runs on the board early in Wednesday's contest. The rookie left-hander, with his 6.23 ERA and 1.62 WHIP, figures to be a mainstay in the starting rotation going forward now that Jose Berrios and J.A. Happ are out of the picture. He's scheduled to make his next start Monday against the White Sox.
