  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Leaves with elbow injury

Cabrera was removed from Friday's game against the Orioles with posterior elbow discomfort, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports. Cabrera's elbow injury limited him to just four innings Friday, during which he gave up four earned runs on eight hits while striking out six batters. He will presumably undergo tests to determine the nature/severity of his injury, at which point the Marlins may relay an update on his status.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Suffers tough-luck loss

Cabrera (3-3) took the loss against the Brewers on Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks with five strikeouts over seven innings. Cabrera's only blemish was a two-run homer by Jackson Chourio in the third inning, as he completed seven frames for the second straight outing. The 27-year-old extended an impressive run, having now allowed three earned runs or fewer in 11 consecutive starts dating back to May 4. He'll carry a 3.33 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 80:30 K:BB across 78.1 innings into a road matchup with the Orioles next weekend.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Delivers scoreless outing

Cabrera (3-2) allowed two hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings Tuesday, striking out six and earning a win over Minnesota. Cabrera gave up one extra-base hit and let only two runners reach scoring position during his impressive outing Tuesday. It was his third scoreless outing of the year and his first time completing at least seven frames. He tossed 58 of 93 pitches for strikes and forced 14 whiffs, including six each with his changeup and slider. Cabrera owns a 3.41 ERA with a 75:30 K:BB across 71.1 frames. He's produced a stellar 2.05 ERA in 52.2 innings since the start of May. Cabrera's next outing is lined up to be at home against the Brewers this weekend.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Fans six in no-decision

Cabrera allowed two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six batters over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against San Francisco on Wednesday. Cabrera served up a solo homer to the first batter he faced, but he was relatively good after that, yielding just one more run over the remainder of his outing. The right-hander tossed 54 of 90 pitches for strikes and notched a healthy six punchouts -- breaking a streak of four straight outings with exactly five strikeouts -- but didn't get enough run support while he was in the game to get the win. Cabrera hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in any of his past six starts, and he's posted a 1.80 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 36:15 K:BB over 30 frames during that stretch.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Longest outing of season Thursday

Cabrera didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Phillies, giving up one run on two hits and three walks in 6.1 innings. He struck out five. The hard-throwing right-hander tallied 14 swinging strikes on the evening, and he fanned at least five in his sixth straight start. Cabrera tends to struggle with his control and efficiency, as he threw just 47 of his 82 pitches for strikes Thursday, so it was also encouraging to see him toss at least six frames for the first time in 12 outings this year. Cabrera holds a 3.81 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 63:26 K:BB over 59 innings in 2025, and his next appearance is slated for next week against the Giants in San Francisco.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Lasts only three innings

Cabrera did not factor into Friday's decision against the Nationals, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out five across three innings. Cabrera struck out five of the first seven batters he faced, but he appeared to tweak his ankle on first base in the third inning after colliding with Eric Wagaman. Cabrera was able to stay in the game, but he gave up a two-run home run to James Wood on the next at-bat and did not come out for the fourth despite tossing only 64 pitches (38 strikes). The Marlins didn't announce an injury, and assuming he's given the green light, Cabrera is slated to make his next start against the Phillies at home next week.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Early exit in Friday's loss

Cabrera (2-2) took the loss Friday as the Marlins were downed 4-3 by the Rays, giving up three runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out five. The right-hander got lifted after only 63 pitches (41 strikes), his lightest workload of the season. While the early hook was unusual, Cabrera's inefficiency remains the biggest obstacle to a true breakout as he has yet to complete six innings in any of his 10 trips to the mound. He'll take a 3.99 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 53:21 K:BB through 49.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next weekend against the Nationals.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Shines again in victory

Cabrera (2-1) earned the win over San Francisco on Saturday, allowing six hits and issuing three walks while striking out five batters over 5.2 scoreless innings. Though Cabrera allowed 10 baserunners (including one who reached on an error), none of the hits against him went for extra bases. The right-hander was pulled after issuing a two-out walk followed by a single in the sixth inning to prevent him from notching a quality start, but this was another promising May outing after Cabrera struggled mightily in April. He finished that month with a 7.23 ERA over four starts, but he's since brought that number down to a tolerable 4.14 by allowing three or fewer runs in five straight appearances. Cabrera has been especially effective in his past two starts, tossing 11.1 scoreless frames while compiling a 15:5 K:BB. He'll look to remain on a roll in his next start, which lines up to be a road matchup against Tampa Bay.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Fans seven in no-decision

Cabrera did not factor into the decision in Monday's 8-7 win over the Cubs, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out seven. The Miami right-hander returned from a nail injury to make his first start since May 10. Cabrera showed no ill effects of the injury and generated a solid 15 whiffs out of 90 total pitches. All of the runs he conceded came on one swing of the bat when he yielded a three-run homer to Miguel Amaya in the fourth. Through 34.1 innings, Cabrera now sports a 5.50 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 33:14 K:BB. He is currently slated to make his next start at the Angels this weekend.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Starting Monday

Cabrera (finger) has been cleared to start Monday's game against the Cubs, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports. Cabrera was originally slated to make his next start this weekend against Tampa Bay, but those plans were derailed after he experienced fluid buildup near a fingernail on his right hand. His delay between starts will only be a few days, however, as manager Clayton McCullough confirmed Saturday that the right-hander will start the series opener against one of the top offenses in the majors.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Pushed back with fingernail issue

Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said Friday that Cabrera's next start has been pushed back a few days due to fluid buildup in his fingernail area, Isaac Azout of FishOnFirst.com reports. Cabrera's next turn had been scheduled to come up this weekend against the Rays, but he appears poised to take the ball early next week versus the Cubs instead, although McCullough didn't reveal the exact day for Cabrera's planned return. The righty has a history of fingernail/blister problems, but it appears at this juncture that this one will not require a stint on the 15-day injured list.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Control issues persist

Cabrera (0-1) was charged with the loss Thursday against the Diamondbacks. He surrendered five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six across four innings. The right-hander has now issued exactly three walks in each of his first two starts of the campaign, and he also had a wild pitch and plunked a batter while allowing five stolen bases Thursday. Walks have been a problem throughout Cabrera's career with a 5.1 BB/9 over parts of five big-league seasons, so he's difficult to trust as a consistent fantasy option. Encouragingly, he worked up to 88 pitches Thursday, so he at least doesn't appear to have any workload limitations after opening the campaign on the IL due to a blister.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Rejoining rotation Friday

Cabrera (blister) will make his season debut Friday against the Nationals, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Cabrera threw 53 pitches in his second rehab start with Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday, so he's not going to be ready for a full workload Friday. The right-hander is coming back from a blister on his right middle finger.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Strikes out six in rehab start

Cabrera (finger) covered four innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits and no walks while striking out six in his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Jacksonville. Cabrera built up to 53 pitches in his second rehab outing with Jacksonville. Though Cabrera has long been plagued by control problems, he hasn't issued a walk in either of his rehab starts, which have covered seven innings. Cabrera is eligible to come off the 15-day injured list this week, but the Marlins may want to see him get stretched out a little bit more in one final rehab outing before adding him back to the big-league rotation.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Officially goes on IL

The Marlins placed Cabrera (finger) on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Cabrera threw a simulated game Wednesday and hopes to be ready to rejoin the Miami rotation by mid-April as he recovers from a blister on his right middle finger. Connor Gillispie and Valente Bellozo will fill rotation spots to begin the season while Cabrera and Ryan Weathers (forearm) are on the shelf.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Set for sim game Wednesday

Cabrera (blister) will throw a bullpen session Monday ahead of a simulated game Wednesday, Justin Morris of MLB.com reports. The right-hander last pitched in a Grapefruit League game March 13 before being shut down due to a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand. Cabrera is aiming for a mid-April return to the rotation, and he likely won't need too many outings to build back up for the regular season -- he threw 51 pitches, albeit only 24 of them for strikes, on March 7 in the spring start prior to developing the blister.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Bullpen session on tap

Cabrera (finger) will throw a bullpen session Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Cabrera is already slated to begin the season on the injured list, but the fact he's trending toward mound work before Opening Day is good news considering his throwing session Monday reportedly didn't go well. If he gets through his bullpen session with no issues, the plan is for Cabrera to pitch in a sim game Wednesday, at which point a return timeline may be established.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: IL-bound with blister issue

Cabrera will begin the season on the 15-day injured list with a blister on his right middle finger, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Cabrera exited in his last Grapefruit League outing Thursday due to the injury. He played catch Monday, but the throwing session apparently didn't go as well as the Marlins had hoped. Connor Gillispie has tossed eight scoreless innings this spring without allowing a hit and looks to be first in line to fill the rotation vacancy created by Cabrera's absence.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Could have next start skipped

Cabrera's next scheduled Grapefruit League start could be skipped as he deals with a blister, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Cabrera had to be lifted from Thursday's start against the Astros after just 12 pitches with a blister on his right middle finger. The Marlins will determine a course of action with Cabrera later Friday, but there's a distinct possibility he won't be ready for the start of the season. The righty has been pummeled for 13 runs on 11 hits and four walks over 4.2 innings this spring.

  • Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Dealing with blister issue

Cabrera was forced from Thursday's Grapefruit League start against the Astros in the first inning with a blister on his right middle finger, Stephen Strom of the Marlins Radio Network reports. Cabrera -- who has dealt with blister problems before -- lasted just 12 pitches and didn't record an out in the outing before being pulled. The right-hander has had a disastrous spring, allowing 13 runs on 11 hits and four walks over 4.2 frames. Cabrera is expected to open the season in the Marlins' rotation, although that plan might be revisited.
