  • White Sox's Edgar Quero: Taking seat Friday

Quero isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics.

Quero will get a chance to rest Friday after going 8-for-24 with four RBI and a run scored through his first eight career MLB games. Matt Thaiss fill in behind the plate and bat sixth.

  • White Sox's Edgar Quero: Tallies three hits

Quero went 3-for-4 with a run scored Tuesday against the Twins.

Quero started for the fourth time in six games since his promotion to the majors and has most recently hit fourth and fifth in the lineup. He has earned that key role quickly, collecting seven hits across his first 19 at-bats. Quero also scored the first run of his career Tuesday.

  • White Sox's Edgar Quero: Up to cleanup spot versus righty

Quero will start at catcher and bat cleanup in Monday's game versus the Red Sox.

Quero split starts with Matt Thaiss in the first four games after his promotion, with both of the switch-hitting rookie's starts coming against left-handers. However, he is in there versus righty Walker Buehler in Monday's series finale and has also been elevated to the cleanup spot. Quero is 4-for-11 with two doubles and two RBI in his first 12 plate appearances.

  • White Sox's Edgar Quero: Success in small sample

Quero went 2-for-4 with a double Saturday against the Red Sox.

Quero has appeared in all three games since being recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, two of which were starts. He already has a pair of doubles with three total hits across nine at-bats while striking out only once. Early returns have been positive, and the White Sox have little reason not to give him as much playing time as he can handle with only Matt Thaiss competing for reps behind the plate.

  • White Sox's Edgar Quero: Not in Friday's lineup

Quero is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Boston.

Quero was summoned for his major-league debut Thursday and started at catcher versus the Athletics, but he'll be on the bench as the White Sox begin a weekend series versus the Red Sox. The 22-year-old should still ultimately see the bulk of the playing time at catcher on the South Side, but Matt Thaiss is drawing the start Friday.

  • White Sox's Edgar Quero: Promoted, batting seventh in debut

The White Sox selected Quero's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday.

Quero earned the promotion after slashing .333/.444/.412 with one home run over his first 63 plate appearances at Charlotte this season. The 22-year-old will presumably take over as Chicago's primary backstop and could be worthy of a pickup in fantasy leagues that start two catchers. Quero will start behind the dish and bat seventh Thursday against the Athletics in his major-league debut.

  • White Sox's Edgar Quero: Bound for big leagues

The White Sox plan to promote Quero from Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.

One of the top prospects in the White Sox's farm system, Quero has slashed .333/.444/.412 with one home run, four RBI and nine runs scored across 63 plate appearances in Triple-A this season. The 22-year-old backstop will now get his first taste of the big leagues with Chicago, where he could get the chance to play on a near-everyday basis between catcher and designated hitter.

  • White Sox's Edgar Quero: Heading to minor-league camp

The White Sox reassigned Quero to minor-league camp Monday.

Quero went just 4-for-16 with a walk over nine Cactus League games, but even if he had obliterated pitching in the spring, the White Sox still might have had him open the season at Triple-A Charlotte to delay the start of his MLB service clock. Korey Lee appears to be the leading candidate to begin the season as Chicago's No. 1 backstop, but it may just be a matter of time before Quero or fellow catching prospect Kyle Teel supplants him. In the meantime, Quero and Teel are likely to begin the season at Triple-a Charlotte, where both should be able to pick up everyday at-bats while rotating between catcher and designated hitter.

  • White Sox's Edgar Quero: Not seeing any action this spring

Quero has yet to make a start for the White Sox this spring.

Quero came into camp seemingly with a shot to emerge with a spot on the Opening Day roster, but his lack of usage suggests that's not going to happen. The 21-year-old has appeared in eight Cactus League games off the bench this spring, going 4-for-14 with a 2:1 K:BB. Quero appears likely to open the season alongside fellow catching prospect Kyle Teel at Triple-A Charlotte, where the duo would split playing time.

  • White Sox's Edgar Quero: Added to taxi squad

The White Sox added Quero to their taxi squad Sunday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.

The 21-year-old catcher could make his major-league debut with the White Sox during the last week of the regular season. Quero has been with the organization since July of 2023, when he was traded by the Angels along with left-hander Ky Bush in exchange for Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez. Quero began 2024 with Double-A Birmingham, but he was promoted to Triple-A Charlotte in July. He missed some time due to a back injury, but across his 25 outings with Charlotte, he slashed .300/.390/.478 with four home runs and 17 RBI across 105 plate appearances.

  • White Sox's Edgar Quero: Returning to action in Triple-A

Triple-A Charlotte activated Quero (back) from the 7-day injured list Thursday, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.

Quero was placed on the 7-day injured list in late August after injuring his back, but he's healthy for the final week-plus of the season. The 21-year-old appeared to have a chance of making his MLB debut with the White Sox down the stretch prior to the injury, but that's increasingly unlikely with just nine big-league games left on the schedule.

  • White Sox's Edgar Quero: Nursing back injury

Quero has been on the 7-day injured list since Aug. 17 due to a back injury, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.

The club has yet to reveal a timetable for Quero's return, and Paul Janish, Director of Player Development, stated Monday that the backstop will likely remain out a bit longer, per Fegan. "At this juncture of the season, we just need to make sure that he's completely healthy," said Janish. Quero was being considered for a September promotion prior to suffering the injury, and his current placement on the IL could prevent him from making his big-league debut if he's not activated in the near future.

  • White Sox's Edgar Quero: Jumps to Triple-A Charlotte

Quero was promoted to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Quero maintained an .823 OPS with 12 home runs and 53 RBI across 292 plate appearances with Double-A Birmingham. It would be a surprise to see him reach the majors in 2024, though a debut early in 2025 is certainly realistic.
