The White Sox acquired Quero along with left-hander Ky Bush from the Angels on Wednesday in exchange for right-handers Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. After putting up a .970 OPS in Single-A in 2022, Quero was pushed to Double-A to begin 2023 and is slashing .245/.385/.332 with 35 RBI across 317 plate appearances. The 20-year-old backstop will likely remain in Double-A as he transitions to his new organization, though he remains on his way to contribute in the majors within a few years.... See More ... Angels' Edgar Quero: Treading water at Double-A
Quero has been a league-average hitter (100 wRC+) while slashing .240/.378/.322 with two home runs in 63 games for Double-A Rocket City. Quero has displayed stellar plate skills (16.5 BB%, 17.5 K%) as the third-youngest qualified hitter at Double-A, but he hasn't hit for much impact (0.82 ISO, 23.0 percent hard-contact rate). He was pushed very aggressively over High-A this season, so Quero's performance thus far should not be seen as a disappointment.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Edgar Quero: Pushed aggressively
Quero is set to open the season with Double-A Rocket City, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. This is surprising, even for the aggressive Angels, as Quero, who turns 20 this week, has never played above Single-A and his defense behind the plate is widely panned by scouts. Granted, Rocket City is the team's preferred developmental hub over Tri-City (too pitcher-friendly) and Salt Lake (too hitter-friendly). If Quero handles the aggressive assignment offensively, he could possibly be fast-tracked as a first baseman.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Edgar Quero: Reassigned to minor-league camp
Quero was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Angels on Tuesday. Quero is one of the organization's better prospects but won't turn 20 until next month and needs more development time. He collected a .965 OPS with 17 homers and 12 steals at Low-A Inland Empire in 2022 and will probably move up to High-A Tri-City to start 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Edgar Quero: Breakout season in Single-A
Quero wrapped the 2022 regular season at High-A Inland Empire with a .312/.435/.530 batting line, 17 homers and 12 steals through 111 games. There are few -- if any -- flaws to be found in Quero's stat line this season. He led the 66ers in average, homers, RBI (75) and runs (86), and he did so while putting up a terrific 73:91 BB:K. To highlight just how special this season was for the 19-year-old Quero, when J.T. Realmuto was his age, he hit .175 in rookie ball. Switch-hitting catchers with both power and speed -- not to mention the polish to put up a .965 OPS in full-season ball at 19 -- pretty much don't exist, so while Quero has gotten shockingly little hype in dynasty circles thus far, he won't fly under the radar for long. Of course, he's still several years removed from the big leagues.... See More ... See Less
