Player Outlook
Blake Perkins joined the Brewers last offseason and made his MLB debut in 2023, posting a .217/.325/.350 slash line with four homers and five steals in 67 games. The offensive production was forgettable, but a 13.9 percent walk rate coupled with strong defense (11 DRS) led to a regular role before being sidelined for a month during the second half with an oblique strain. Perkins seems unlikely to operate as much more than a fourth outfielder given Milwaukee's plethora of young outfield talent, but he could still provide some bench value for the Brewers.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Late-game heroics not enough

Perkins went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored during Sunday's 6-4 loss to Baltimore. Perkins belted a go-ahead homer in the seventh inning off Yennier Cano. However, the Orioles immediately took back the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Still, Perkins racked up his second three-hit game of 2024 and has generated a hit in six of seven appearances. In 26 at-bats, Perkins owns a team-leading .385 batting average with a 1.082 OPS.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Homers, swipes bag

Perkins went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's win over Cincinnati. He also walked and was hit by a pitch in the contest. Perkins stole second after being hit by a pitch to open the fourth inning and then eventually came around to score Milwaukee's sixth run on a sacrifice fly from Jackson Chourio. The outfielder wasn't done yet, however, adding a solo shot off Hunter Greene in the sixth, giving him his first long ball of the season. Perkins has now hit safely in all four games he's played, racking up four RBI, five runs and two stolen bases over that stretch.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Productive from No. 9 spot

Perkins went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 9-5 win over Cincinnati. Perkins opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-run single before swiping his first bag of the year and scoring on a Christian Yelich hit. The 27-year-old switch-hitter would add a third RBI with another base hit in the sixth. It was just the third start of the season for Perkins -- he's now 5-for-13 on the year with three RBI and three runs scored after slashing .217/.325/.350 with four homers and five stolen bases through 67 games as a rookie last season. Perkins will likely remain the fourth outfielder in Milwaukee until Garrett Mitchell (hand) is ready to return from the IL.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Will sit Saturday vs. Mets

Perkins is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets. Perkins started in center field Friday and finished 1-for-4 with one strikeout. Sal Frelick will get the start in center field Saturday and bat in the leadoff spot against Mets right-hander Luis Severino.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Makes Opening Day roster

Perkins has made the Brewers' Opening Day roster, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Perkins should see quite a bit of playing time in right field against lefties and could get some starts versus righties, too, if Garrett Mitchell (hand) isn't ready. The 27-year-old put up a .675 OPS over 168 plate appearances with the Brewers last season.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Pops solo homer

Perkins went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's win against the Cardinals. Perkins opened the scoring in Thursday's victory with a 390-foot solo homer off Miles Mikolas in the third inning. The 27-year-old rookie has started four of five games since returning from an oblique injury Sept. 17. Perkins is known for his glove and speed and is slashing .217/.322/.326 with three homers and five steals over 60 games.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Starting in return from IL

Perkins (oblique) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and is starting in center field and batting ninth Sunday versus the Nationals. Perkins has been sidelined by the oblique injury since Aug. 11 but will rejoin the Brewers after a four-game rehab assignment. The 27-year-old has a .212/.311/.297 slash line across 56 games this season and should operate as a depth outfielder.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Rehabbing in Arizona

Perkins (oblique) will report to the Brewers' spring training complex in Arizona this week to continue workouts, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The Brewers haven't clarified where exactly Perkins stands in his recovery from the left oblique strain that has sidelined him since Aug. 11, but the fact that he's working out in Arizona and isn't being shut down from baseball activities can be taken as a positive sign. Perkins will eventually need to complete a minor-league rehab assignment before returning from the 10-day injured list, likely at some point in September. Once activated, Perkins is expected to be limited to a depth role in the Milwaukee outfield.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Placed on injured list

The Brewers placed Perkins on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain. Between his struggles at the plate and the emergence of Sal Frelick, Perkins' playing time has declined recently. Now, he'll be put on the shelf for at least 10 days while Abraham Toro comes up from Triple-A Nashville to take his spot on the bench.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Swipes fourth bag

Perkins went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Phillies. Getting the start in left field and batting eighth against southpaw Cristopher Sanchez, Perkins produced his first multi-hit performance since July 1 while stealing his fourth bag of the season. The 26-year-old is batting just .167 (5-for-30) on the month, but seven walks have given him a respectable .324 OBP. He's been on the bench against the last four right-handed starters the Brewers have faced, with Raimel Tapia getting a look in Perkins' place, and Tyrone Taylor is also healthy again. The three will continue to jockey for playing time in the third outfield spot alongside Christian Yelich and Joey Wiemer.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Swipes bag Sunday

Perkins went 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Guardians. Perkins tallied his third multi-hit effort in eight games since June 11 and is now slashing .474/.524/.632 over that span. His hot bat should afford him some additional opportunities in the lineup, but he's situated in an outfield depth role and that seemingly won't change unless an injury opens up more playing time.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Belts second long ball

Perkins hit a solo home run in his only at-bat in a 5-0 victory versus Pittsburgh on Saturday. Perkins came on as a pinch hitter for Raimel Tapia in the eighth inning and slugged a 423-foot solo shot to give Milwaukee a five-run cushion. Perkins has been effective when given a chance recently, collecting six hits and driving in five runs over his past 11 at-bats. However, that span stretches out to nine days since the rookie is buried on the Brewers' outfield depth chart.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Sent to Triple-A

The Brewers optioned Perkins to Triple-A Nashville on Monday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The team hasn't announced a corresponding move, but it could mean Tyrone Taylor (elbow) will return from the injured list Tuesday. Perkins went 1-for-12 at the dish in his first stint in the majors.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Gets third straight start

Perkins will start in left field and will bat eighth in Monday's game against the Tigers. The switch-hitting Perkins will stick in the lineup for the third game in a row, this time facing off against a lefty (Matthew Boyd) after going 1-for-5 with a run scored across a pair of starts versus right-handers (Garrett Whitlock and Brayan Bello) over the weekend. The Brewers seem to be giving Perkins a look as an everyday player in the outfield in the wake of Garrett Mitchell's (shoulder) long-term absence, but Perkins is still expected to have a short leash and will need to begin producing at the plate in order to maintain a regular role.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Making good impression

Perkins is 14-for-48 (.292) with a home run, three RBI, eight runs and a stolen base through 13 games with Triple-A Nashville. Perkins has slowed some after getting off to a fast start in his first stint with Nashville, but he has made a good deal of contact early in the campaign. He is on Milwaukee's 40-man roster, which puts him in the mix for the first call-up of his career if Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) misses any time at the big-league level.

  • Brewers' Blake Perkins: Signs with Crew

Perkins signed a one-year contract with the Brewers on Wednesday. After recording a .821 OPS between the Double-A and Triple-A levels in 2022, Perkins has earned his first major-league deal. He will likely begin the season in Triple-A Nashville considering he only played 30 games at that level in 2021, but he will serve as another option to play in Milwaukee's outfield at some point in 2023 following the departure of Hunter Renfroe.
