Mejia signed a minor-league deal with the Nationals on Friday that included an invite to spring training, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Mejia spent all of 2022 in the Mariners' farm system at Triple-A Tacoma, where he slashed .261/.330/.433 and drove in 59 RBI over 521 plate appearances. The 28-year-old's versatility on defense could prove to be valuable for a Nationals team that will be carrying its rebuild into 2023.... See More ... See Less

Mariners' Erick Mejia: Assigned to minors camp
Mejia was assigned to minor-league camp Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Mejia will begin the 2022 season with Triple-A Tacoma after signing a minor-league contract with the Mariners in late February. The 27-year-old played in 17 games with the Royals over the last two seasons, batting .143 with two doubles and four RBI in 38 at-bats.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Erick Mejia: Absent for start of camp
Mejia has yet to report to Mariners camp as of Monday due to visa issues, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. In addition to Mejia, visa issues have also prevented outfield prospect Alberto Rodriguez and reliever Andres Munoz from arriving for the start of camp. Mejia is scheduled to attend camp as a non-roster invitee, but he's unlikely to open the season with the big club and is instead expected to fill a utility role at Triple-A Tacoma.... See More ... Mariners' Erick Mejia: Lands with M's
Mejia signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Feb. 8. Mejia, a 27-year-old switch-hitting utility man, spent the entire 2021 campaign in the Royals organization at Triple-A Omaha, slashing .241/.313/.404 with seven home runs in 228 plate appearances. He previously saw MLB action with Kansas City in 2019 and 2020, appearing in 17 games across both seasons. He's expected to open the 2022 campaign at Triple-A Tacoma.... See More ... See Less -
Erick Mejia: Parts ways with Royals
Mejia was non-tendered by the Royals on Wednesday. The 26-year-old joined Kansas City on a minors deal last offseason and appeared in eight games, going 1-for-14 with seven strikeouts and a stolen base. Mejia returns to free agency after spending the last two years with the Royals.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Erick Mejia: Sent to alternate site
Mejia was optioned to the alternate training site Wednesday. Mejia was promoted to the big-league club last week and went 1-for-6 with a double and a stolen base in two appearances. Franchy Cordero (wrist) returns from the injured list in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Erick Mejia: Gets big-league callup
The Royals recalled Mejia from their alternate training site Wednesday. Mejia saw time at all three outfield spots and at three infield spots in 2019 at the Triple-A level, so he'll provide the Royals with a versatile option off the bench. He likely won't be in store for many starts over the final week and a half of the regular season, however.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Erick Mejia: Sent down Thursday
Mejia was optioned to the Royals' alternate training site Thursday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. As someone capable of playing almost any position on the field but incapable of doing much damage at the plate, Mejia was a luxury option on the 30-man roster. However, with Thursday being the deadline to cut down to 28 men, he was a natural option to be demoted. He is 0-for-8 with five strikeouts this season.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Erick Mejia: Cracks Opening Day roster
Mejia was added to the Royals' 30-man roster Thursday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. As expected, Mejia will open the abbreviated 2020 season as a super-utility player for Kansas City. The 25-year-old switch hitter spent most of the 2019 season with Triple-A Omaha, slashing .271/.339/.382 with seven home runs and 19 steals in 556 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Erick Mejia: Getting work at catcher
Mejia has been getting work at catcher during summer camp, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. He appears to have cemented a spot on the 30-man roster as a super-utility player. Mejia can theoretically play almost any position on the field for Kansas City and has gotten positive reviews for his abilities behind the dish. Cam Gallagher and Meibrys Viloria are both questionable for the start of the season and Oscar Hernandez is not a lock to make the roster, so it's possible Mejia could be the de facto backup catcher to start the year. The 25-year-old switch hitter slashed .271/.339/.382 with seven home runs and 19 steals in 556 plate appearances at Triple-A last season.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Erick Mejia: In 60-man player pool
Mejia will be a part of the Royals' 60-man player pool this season, Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reports. He was in camp on a minor-league deal prior to the shutdown. While Mejia could see MLB action again this season, it would likely be as a fifth or sixth outfielder who gets pinch running opportunities and comes in as a defensive replacement late in games.... Erick Mejia: Doesn't agree to contract
Mejia was non-tendered by the Royals on Monday, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports. Mejia made his major-league debut during the 2019 season, going 5-for-22 at the dish with four RBI over nine games. Following Monday's transaction, he'll likely need to accept a minor-league deal elsewhere.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Erick Mejia: Earns promotion to big leagues
Mejia had his contract selected from Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports. Mejia has slashed .271/.339/.382 with seven homers, 63 RBI and 19 stolen bases over 128 games this season for the Storm Chasers, and he'll get a chance with the big-league team down the stretch....
