Green struck out two in a perfect 1.1 innings of relief Sunday to record his first hold of the season in a win over the Red Sox. The 32-year-old right-hander has struggled since being activated from the 60-day IL at the beginning of September, posting a 7.36 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB through 7.1 innings, but he has three wins in eight appearances in addition to Sunday's hold. Green has thrown only 22.1 innings the last two seasons due to Tommy John surgery in June 2022, but a $6.25 million player option for 2024 could ensure he remains in the Toronto bullpen next year if he wants to rehabilitate his market value. Green produced a 3.21 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 10.8 K/9 over 109.1 innings for the Yankees in his last two fully healthy campaigns.... See More ... See Less

Blue Jays' Chad Green: Activated from 60-day IL
Toronto activated Green (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Friday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports. Green is recovered from Tommy John surgery and all set to make his Blue Jays debut after working to a 1.46 ERA and 15:1 K:BB in 12.1 minor-league rehab innings between Low-A Dunedin and Triple-A Buffalo. The hard-throwing 32-year-old right-hander could work his way into a high-leverage bullpen role while Erik Swanson (back) is sidelined.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Chad Green: Will be activated Friday
Green (elbow) will return from the 60-day injured list Friday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Green has been on the 60-day IL all season while working his way back from the Tommy John procedure he underwent in June 2022. After giving up two runs across 12.1 innings in his rehab assignment, the 32-year-old reliever is now set to join the Jays' active roster as rosters expand from 26 to 28 players Friday. Green will likely be limited to a middle-relief role upon returning.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Chad Green: Rehab assignment continues
Green (elbow) will make a rehab appearance with Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports. Green appeared in games with Buffalo on both Saturday and Sunday, but despite pitching on consecutive days, the Blue Jays want to see the right-hander make one more tune-up appearance before clearing him for a return from the 60-day injured list. Since the Blue Jays' active roster will expand from 26 to 28 men Friday, the team may be inclined to wait until that day to reinstate Green, who has been on the shelf all season while recovering from June 2022 Tommy John surgery. Since shifting his rehab assignment to Buffalo at the beginning of August, Green has compiled a 2.16 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 11:1 K:BB in 8.1 innings over eight appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Chad Green: Nears end of rehab assignment
Green (elbow/head) could make back-to-back rehab appearances this weekend with Triple-A Buffalo, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Green had to pause his rehab assignment between Aug. 8 and Aug. 16 after getting hit in the head by a catcher's throw to second base, but he is again on the verge of making his Blue Jays debut. It sounds like the team is discussing whether to activate him early next week or wait until major-league rosters expand Sept. 1. The 32-year-old reliever is more than 16 months removed from Tommy John surgery.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Chad Green: Does light cardio
Green (elbow/head) did light cardio Friday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports. Green was previously poised to make his debut for the Blue Jays after making a final rehab appearance coming off Tommy John surgery on Aug. 8. However, he was drilled in the head on a throw to second by his Buffalo catcher. The reliever suffered a concussion and was placed in the concussion protocol. With the 32-year-old moving about, it seems it will be just a minor setback in his return to the majors.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Chad Green: In concussion protocol
Green (elbow/head) is in concussion protocol after getting beaned by a catcher's throw to second base Tuesday with Triple-A Buffalo, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. Green was making what might have otherwise been his final rehab appearance when Buffalo catcher Tyler Heineman drilled him in the head while trying to cut down a stolen base attempt from Triple-A Worcester shortstop Ryan Fitzgerald. Green is fully recovered from Tommy John surgery, but there is no longer an exact timetable for his Blue Jays debut. He'll likely be sidelined for at least a week before beginning a new minor-league rehab stint.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Chad Green: Another rehab outing Saturday
Green (elbow) is scheduled for another rehab appearance Saturday with Triple-A Buffalo, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports. There seems to be a good chance that it will be his final outing on the farm. More than 13 months removed from Tommy John surgery, Green has tallied six strikeouts with no walks through five rehab outings (five innings) between the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and Triple-A. The 32-year-old right-hander could prove to be a high-leverage weapon for Toronto down the stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Chad Green: Moving rehab to Triple-A soon
Green (elbow) will make one more rehab appearance with Single-A Dunedin on Saturday before moving up to Triple-A Buffalo, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Green has made two scoreless appearances for Dunedin thus far as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery. He appears to be tracking toward an early August return and could provide a nice boost to the Toronto bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Chad Green: Starting rehab assignment
Green (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Dunedin on Saturday, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports. It will be his first official game action since he underwent Tommy John surgery last June. Given the long layoff, Green would figure to need a good number of rehab appearances. That might all just depend on how he looks and feels, though, and if things go well he certainly could be a weapon for the Blue Jays' bullpen down the stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Chad Green: To face hitters Saturday
Green (elbow) is scheduled to throw live batting practice Saturday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Green already has multiple live BP sessions under his belt and could soon head out on a minor-league rehab assignment if his side work continues to go well. He is now more than 13 months removed from Tommy John surgery and figures to be an option for the Blue Jays' bullpen around the end of July.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Chad Green: Set to face live hitters
Green (elbow) is scheduled to throw another round of live batting practice Saturday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports. Now more than 12 months removed from Tommy John surgery, Green would appear to be close to embarking on a minor-league rehab assignment and might be able to make his Blue Jays debut before the end of July. The 32-year-old reliever signed a two-year, $8.5 million contract with Toronto in January.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Chad Green: Throwing live BP
Green (elbow) will throw live batting practice at the Blue Jays' spring training complex in Florida on Tuesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. It would appear to be his first time facing hitters since he underwent Tommy John surgery in June 2022. Green is aiming to be an option for the Blue Jays' bullpen during the second half of the season.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Chad Green: Throwing off mound
General manager Ross Atkins said Monday that Green (elbow) has been throwing bullpen sessions at the Blue Jays' spring training complex in Florida, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Atkins noted that Green that he "could be facing hitters and be in games" at some point next month. Green underwent Tommy John surgery on June 1, 2022 and will require a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment prior to being activated from the 60-day injured list, but he should have a chance at being ready to make his Blue Jays debut shortly after the All-Star break.... Blue Jays' Chad Green: Vacates 40-man roster
The Blue Jays placed Green (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Wednesday. The move frees up a 40-man roster spot while Green continues his rehab from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in June 2022. While Green's two-year deal was clearly structured with 2024 in mind, the right-hander could return later this season and be a valuable contributor in Toronto's bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jays' Chad Green: Nets two-year deal with Toronto
Green (elbow) signed a two-year, $8.5 million contract with the Blue Jays on Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic says the second year of the deal will be a player option should the Jays elect to decline a three-year team option. If both sides decline, Toronto would get a two-year club option. Green underwent Tommy John surgery in June of 2022 and won't pitch again at least until late 2023, hence the unique structure of the deal. It's a contract that should pay off for the Jays if Green can come close to his pre-surgery form, as the 31-year-old boasts a career 3.17 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 494:96 K:BB over 383.2 innings of work.... Yankees' Chad Green: Undergoes Tommy John surgery
Green underwent surgery to reconstruct the UCL in his right elbow Friday. The surgery was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, Texas. Green will likely be out of action for 12-18 months in order to recover. He ends 2022 with a 3.00 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB while logging a save, three holds, three blown saves and a 1-1 record across 14 relief appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Chad Green: Shifts to 60-day IL
Green (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday. The Yankees announced last weekend that Green will require Tommy John surgery, so his move to the 60-day IL is simply procedural. The right-hander had posted a 3.00 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 15 innings over 14 relief appearances prior to his injury, but he'll miss the remainder of 2022 and likely the majority of the 2023 season.... Yankees' Chad Green: Headed for Tommy John surgery
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Green (elbow) will soon undergo Tommy John surgery, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. Even if the procedure to repair the torn ligament in Green's elbow goes smoothly, he'll still miss the remainder of the 2022 season and likely the majority of the 2023 campaign while rehabbing and recovering from surgery. After collecting 19 holds and striking out 99 over 83.2 innings in 2021, Green had fallen down a rung or two in the Yankees' late-inning hierarchy in 2022 with Clay Holmes and Michael King capturing more prominent roles in the bullpen. Green was still effective before suffering the elbow injury, turning in a 3.00 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB across 15 innings while nabbing three holds and one save.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Chad Green: Placed on 15-day IL
Green was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow strain Saturday. Green's injury is feared to be significant, so it's not very surprising to see him land on the injured list now that he's been diagnosed with an elbow strain. The right-hander is still receiving medical opinions, but manager Aaron Boone said Saturday that surgery is being considered, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. Ron Marinaccio was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to provide an additional arm in the bullpen.... See More ... See Less
