  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Escapes with save

Green allowed two hits in a scoreless inning Sunday, striking out one and earning a save against the Cardinals. Green gave up a pair of singles but forced a Jordan Walker pop-out to close out the 3-2 win. Green made his first appearance since coughing up four runs in a loss against the Mets on Sept. 11. It was also his first converted save chance since Aug. 29 after blowing his previous three in September. Green owns a 3.42 ERA with a 44:14 K:BB through 50 innings.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Blows yet another save

Green blew the save Sunday against Atlanta, allowing one earned run on two hits and zero walks in one inning. He did not record a strikeout. Called upon in the ninth to protect a one-run lead, Green allowed back-to-back singles to open the inning before yielding a Matt Olson sacrifice fly to the tie game. Green managed to keep the score tied thanks to a timely double play, but the damage was already done. The 33-year-old has now blown saves in each of his last three appearances, allowing seven earned runs in 2.2 innings during that span. Even with that disastrous stretch, the veteran owns a respectable 2.85 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 42:11 K:BB in 47.1 innings this season, converting 16 of 19 saves.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Blows save Tuesday

Green (4-5) blew the save and took the loss Tuesday as the Blue Jays fell 10-9 to the Phillies, coughing up three runs on three hits over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out two. Toronto held 6-1 and 8-4 leads earlier in the game, but Green completed the collapse by allowing three straight hits to begin the ninth inning, the last of which was a three-run homer by Kyle Schwarber. Green has served up a three-run blast in back-to-back appearances while blowing consecutive save chances, sending his ERA soaring from 1.61 to 2.72, but those were his first two blown saves of the season. The Jays don't have a clear alternative at closer unless Jordan Romano (elbow) is able to make it back in September, so Green should get a chance to work through his struggles.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Takes loss Sunday

Green (4-4) took the loss and blew a save Sunday against the Twins, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out a batter over one inning. Green entered with a 3-1 lead and blew his first save of the season. He retired the first batter he faced before allowing back-to-back singles and then surrendered a three-run homer to Royce Lewis to give the Twins their first lead of the game and eventually the win. Before Sunday's outing, Green was a perfect 16-for-16 in save opportunities, and he had gone five straight outings without giving up a run. The 33-year-old is still putting together one of the best seasons of his career, posting a 2.17 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 40:11 K:BB in 45.2 innings.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Earns 14th save

Green earned the save against the Angels on Saturday, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning. Green was summoned to protect a 3-1 lead after Bowden Francis lost a no-hit bid in the ninth inning and did so on 14 pitches. The veteran remains a perfect 14-for-14 in save attempts this year and owns a sterling 1.69 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB across 42.2 innings.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Collects 13th save

Green allowed a hit over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Sunday's 1-0 win over the Cubs. Green has given up a run in three of his last five outings, but he's picked up four saves and one loss in that span. The veteran right-hander continues to handle the closing duties fairly well for the Blue Jays while Jordan Romano (elbow) works back from arthroscopic surgery. Green is up to 13 saves this year while adding seven holds, a 3-3 record, 1.82 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 33:11 K:BB across 39.2 innings.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Surrenders homer, logs save

Green picked up the save Monday against the Angels, allowing a solo homer with no strikeouts in the ninth inning. Green gave up a home run to Jo Adell to start the bottom of the ninth but recovered by downing Nolan Schanuel, Zach Neto and Matt Thaiss to earn his 12th save of 2024. Green has landed a league-leading five saves in August, allowing two runs across 6.1 innings during the month. He has a 1.86 ERA on the year.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Earns 11th save

Green threw a perfect inning to earn the save in Friday's 3-1 win over the Athletics. Green got the job done on only 11 pitches (six strikes). The 33-year-old continues to shine in the closer's role, securing all 11 of his save chances to go along with a 1.67 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 33:10 K:BB across 37.2 innings this season.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Earns ninth save

Green struck out one in a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in a 5-2 win over the Orioles on Tuesday. Green was summoned to protect a 5-2 lead in the ninth inning and did so on just 12 pitches, including a three-pitch strikeout of Gunnar Henderson. The 33-year-old has converted all nine of his save chances this season while posting a sterling 1.51 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 32:10 K:BB across 35.2 innings.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Dominates Yankees for eighth save

Green struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his eighth save of the season in an 8-5 win over the Yankees. Facing the top of New York's order, Green needed 16 pitches to sit down Alex Verdugo, Juan Soto and Aaron Judge in a very impressive performance. The right-hander appears set as the Blue Jays' closer for the rest of the season unless Jordan Romano is able to make a late return from arthroscopic surgery on his elbow, and Green has earned the role by posting a 1.84 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB through 14.2 innings since the beginning of July while converting all six of his save chances.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Nabs win Friday

Green (3-2) picked up the win in Friday's 6-5 victory over the Rangers, striking out two batters over 1.1 perfect innings of relief. Green breezed through the top of the Texas order on 17 pitches (11 strikes), and he got rewarded when Ernie Clement dropped a walk-off single into left field in the bottom of the ninth. The veteran-right-hander has a clear path to the Blue Jays' closing job with Yimi Garcia now a Mariner and Jordan Romano (elbow) not even expected to resume throwing until mid-August, but with Toronto in sell mode at the trade deadline, Green could also wind up following Garcia out the door. Since returning from a shoulder issue in late May, Green has delivered a 1.54 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB in 23.1 innings while collecting two wins, four holds and five saves.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Converts five-out save

Green picked up a save Sunday against Detroit, throwing 1.2 perfect innings with no strikeouts. Even with Yimi Garcia off the injured list, it was Green who received the first save opportunity coming out of the All-Star break. Sunday's result is a positive sign for fantasy managers who banked on Green to retain closing duties after being thrust into the role due to injuries. However, Sunday's save doesn't indicate that Green will be the Blue Jays' primary ninth-inning option moving forward. Garcia pitched the ninth inning of Saturday's loss, and it's possible that the team didn't want to pitch Garcia in back-to-back games because of his recent injury. Additionally, Toronto could opt to split save opportunities until one of the two emerges as the clear option. Overall, managers should have cautious optimism about Green's closing chances.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Yields homer in save

Green picked up the save Thursday against San Francisco, striking out one and allowing a solo home run in the ninth inning. Green retired Michael Conforto and Matt Chapman to start the bottom of the ninth inning but was taken yard by Mike Yastrzemski before closing out the frame and earning his fifth save of the season. Green has allowed five runs in 24 innings this season, each of which have come via solo homer. The 33-year-old is expected to hand over closing duties to Yimi Garcia (elbow) when Garcia is activated off the IL, but in the meantime, Green should continue to see ninth-inning work for Toronto.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Winds up with win

Green (2-1) took the win Sunday against Seattle, allowing two hits and a walk with two strikeouts across a scoreless inning. Green entered the game in the bottom of the ninth inning with the score 4-4, and although he let runners reach second and third with one out, Green was able to send the game to extra innings, where the Blue Jays would deliver Green his second victory. The 33-year-old has allowed just one run in his last 9.2 innings and has been the Blue Jays' impromptu closer in the wake of injuries to Jordan Romano (elbow) and Yimi Garcia (elbow). Prior to being shelved, Garcia was firmly ahead of Green for save chances, but with Green in the midst of an exceptional season highlighted by what would be a career-best 1.57 ERA, the closing role may no longer be as cut and dry.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Picks up fourth save

Green notched a save against the Mariners on Saturday, allowing one run on one hit while striking out two batters over 1.1 innings. Green was deployed with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and struck out Cal Raleigh to preserve a two-run Toronto lead. He returned in the ninth frame and worked around a one-out solo shot by Luke Raley to nail down the save. Green has two saves over the past four days and has allowed just three earned runs -- all on solo homers -- over 21 innings since the start of April. However, he could see fewer closing opportunities with Yimi Garcia nearing his return from an elbow injury.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Converts on save

Green picked up the save Tuesday against Houston, allowing one hit and no walks with two strikeouts across a scoreless inning. Green has stepped into a temporary ninth-inning role with Jordan Romano (elbow) and Yimi Garcia (elbow) shelved. Though the pair have been sidelined for multiple weeks, Tuesday's contest was the first save opportunity offered since and Green stepped up and converted. Green has been exceptional for the Blue Jays this season, posting a 1.37 ERA with a 17:4 K:BB across 19.2 innings.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Next man up for saves

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Green will serve as the team's closer while Yimi Garcia (elbow) is day-to-day, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports. Garcia was pulled from a save chance in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Guardians after experiencing right elbow soreness. The Blue Jays ended up turning to Nate Pearson to finish out the contest, but Green had been used earlier in the game and seems to be first in line to operate as Toronto's closer for any length of time that Garcia might miss. Garcia underwent an MRI on Monday that cleared him of any structural damage to his elbow, but he's still dealing with what Schneider described as "ulnar nerve symptoms" and may require a stint on the injured list. Toronto's preferred closer, Jordan Romano (elbow), is already on the IL, and if Garcia joins him, Green may have a clear runway to save chances until one of the two injured pitchers is activated. Green, who owns a 1.76 ERA and 0.85 WHIP over 15.1 innings this season, makes for a strong speculative pickup in leagues where he's still available.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Collects sixth hold

Green gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless seventh inning Sunday to record his sixth save of the season in a win over the Guardians. The right-hander did his job in a high-leverage spot with the Blue Jays ahead 7-4, but the team's late-inning crew got thinner when Yimi Garcia left the game in the ninth with elbow soreness. Nate Pearson wound up getting the save Sunday, but with Jordan Romano (elbow) just resuming his throwing program this weekend and lacking a firm return date, Green could be Toronto's top closing option in the short term.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Notches fourth hold

Green walked two and struck out two in a scoreless sixth inning Sunday to record his fourth hold of the season in a win over the Pirates. The right-hander had trouble finding the plate, tossing only 15 of 27 pitches for strikes, but Green was able to escape the jam he created while protecting a 4-3 lead. With Jordan Romano (elbow) back on the IL, it looks like Yimi Garcia will get the first chance to fill the closer role, with Green remaining part of the setup crew.

  • Blue Jays' Chad Green: Reinstated and active

Green (shoulder) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list and will be available out of the bullpen in Tuesday's game versus the White Sox. Green has been sidelined since mid-April with a right shoulder strain, and he was able to make three scoreless appearances with Triple-A Buffalo during his rehab assignment. The veteran had already returned to the Blue Jays' clubhouse in Chicago for the series opener Monday. In a corresponding move, Erik Swanson was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo.
