The Rangers informed Shreve on Friday that he will not make Texas' roster out of spring training, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Shreve will likely exercise the opt-out clause in his contract and look to latch on with another organization in free agency. The 33-year-old southpaw turned in a 4.63 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 44.2 innings between the Reds and Tigers last season.... See More ... See Less

Rangers' Chasen Shreve: Will be in camp with Texas
Shreve signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Monday that includes an invitation to spring training. Shreve held a 4.63 ERA and 45:14 K:BB across 44.2 relief innings between the Tigers and Reds last season. The veteran left-hander has an uneven 10-year track record at the big-league level but will at least provide the Rangers with some experienced relief depth at Triple-A Round Rock.... See More ... Chasen Shreve: Cut loose by Cincy
The Reds released Shreve on Saturday. With just one week left in the minor-league season, Shreve is unlikely to resurface elsewhere in 2023, though he'll at least get a head start in finding his next organization after Cincinnati cut him loose. Between big-league stops with the Reds and Tigers this season, Shreve compiled a 4.63 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 45:14 K:BB across 44.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Chasen Shreve: Selected to majors
The Reds selected Shreve from Triple-A Louisville on Saturday. With Graham Ashcraft (toe) headed for the injured list, Shreve will come up from the minors to add depth to a depleted Cincinnati pitching staff. The 33-year-old southpaw put up a 4.79 ERA and 1.38 WHIP through 41.1 innings with Detroit before signing a minor-league deal with the Reds on Aug. 18.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Chasen Shreve: Lands with Reds on minors deal
Shreve signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Thursday. Shreve was cut loose by the Tigers last week after posting a 4.79 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 42:12 K:BB through 41.1 innings. He'll report to Triple-A Louisville for now but could get a look with the Reds down the stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Chasen Shreve: Becomes free agent
Shreve was released by the Tigers on Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Shreve passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment by Detroit and will now head to free agency. The 33-year-old lefty reliever should be able to find a new opportunity elsewhere before the 2023 season comes to an end.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Designated for assignment
Shreve was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Friday. Will Vest (leg) is back from the injured list in a corresponding move. Shreve had pitched to a 4.79 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 42:12 K:BB through 41.1 innings (47 appearances) this season out of the Detroit bullpen. The 33-year-old lefty reliever could draw interest on waivers.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Implodes in loss Thursday
Shreve (1-2) allowed five runs while retiring only two batters to take the loss Thursday against the Orioles. He gave up four hits and a walk. Shreve came out for the top of the seventh inning and promptly allowed a single and a double to start the frame. Things didn't get much better from there, and the lefty saw his ERA climb from 3.00 to 7.45 in the process. Shreve wasn't much better for the Mets last year, posting a 6.49 ERA across 25 games, so expectations should be kept fairly low moving forward despite the fact he's seen high-leverage chances early this year for the Tigers.... Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Blows save, takes loss
Shreve (0-1) allowed an unearned run across 1.1 innings of work to take the loss in Wednesday's 10-inning contest against the Blue Jays. Shreve suffered a tough-luck blown save and loss, as he allowed two inherited runners to score in the ninth inning on sacrifice flies. The lefty then allowed the automatic runner on second base to score in the 10th, giving Toronto the walkoff win. Despite the negative outcome, it's encouraging to see Shreve receive high-leverage work with the Tigers.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Contract selected by Detroit
Shreve had his contract selected by the Tigers on Thursday. Shreve was informed Wednesday that he earned a spot on Detroit's Opening Day roster, and now he's officially been added to the big club. The 32-year-old struggled to a 6.49 ERA in in 25 outings for the Mets last season, but he pitched well during spring training with two earned runs allowed and a 10:3 K:BB across eight frames.... Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Makes Opening Day roster
Shreve was informed Wednesday that he'll be included on Detroit's Opening Day roster, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. The Tigers still have to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for him, but Shreve earns a spot with the big club after forging a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB over eight innings in eight appearances in the Grapefruit League. The southpaw will likely start the campaign in a middle-innings role, but given Detroit's lack of established options in the bullpen, he could quickly move into higher-leverage opportunities.... Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Looks set to make team
Shreve has a clearer path to an Opening Day bullpen spot with the Tigers reassigning Jace Fry, Trevor Rosenthal and Matt Wisler to minor-league camp Monday Shreve has pitched well this spring with a 2.25 ERA and 10 strikeouts across eight Grapefruit League innings. It looks like that will help the lefty make the team with the Tigers thinning out their options Monday. Shreve figures to mostly be used situationally against left-handed hitters and likely won't have a ton of fantasy appeal, at least in the early going.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Off to good start
Shreve has posted a 2.70 ERA and and five strikeouts across 3.1 Grapefruit League innings so far. It's a small sample, but Shreve is making a good first impression as he competes for a bullpen spot with the Tigers. The lefty agreed to a minor-league contract with Detroit in January following a disappointing season with the Mets in which he recorded a 6.49 ERA over 26.1 innings. However, he looked much better for Pittsburgh in 2021, posting a 3.20 ERA across 56.1 innings of relief. If Shreve can get back to that level, he should be able to stick in the majors this year.... Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Signs minor deal with Tigers
Shreve signed a minor-league contract with Detroit on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Following a solid season in 2021 with Pittsburgh, Shreve wasn't able to get going in 2022 with the Mets, recording a 6.49 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through 26.1 frames out of the 'pen. He was able to draw a minor-league deal from the Yankees and throw 5.2 quality innings in Triple-A Scranton. If the 32-year old lefty can pick up where he left off in the minors, there is a good chance he'll make it into the Tigers' bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Chasen Shreve: Let go by Mets
Shreve was granted his unconditional release by the Mets on Saturday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Shreve was designated for assignment Tuesday and cleared waivers. He had a 6.49 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 26.1 innings with the Mets this season and will now look for a new opportunity around the league.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Chasen Shreve: Hit with loss Sunday
Shreve (1-1) took the loss Sunday against the Mariners, giving up two runs on two hits while striking out one in one inning of relief. He entered the game to get the final two outs in the fifth inning with the Mets protecting a 5-4 lead, but Julio Rodriguez led off the sixth with a solo shot, and Shreve allowed another single that also came around to score. The southpaw has served up homers in two straight appearances, but on the season he still sports a 3.38 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 19:3 K:BB through 13.1 innings with two holds.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Chasen Shreve: Promotion official
The Mets selected Shreve's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday. New York opened a spot on the 40-man roster for Shreve by designating pitcher Jordan Yamamoto for assignment. Shreve earned his spot in the Mets' Opening Day bullpen after tossing four no-hit innings and striking out six during the Grapefruit League season.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Chasen Shreve: Makes Opening Day roster
Shreve told Tim Healey of Newsday on Monday that the Mets have informed him that he's made their Opening Day roster. The Mets will likely make the move official within the next couple of days when Shreve's contract is purchased from the minors. Shreve, who was attending camp as a non-roster invitee, earned his way on the roster after striking out six and permitting just one walk in four no-hit innings during Grapefruit League play. The 31-year-old lefty is back for his second stint with the Mets, after he split the 2018 campaign between New York and St. Louis. He was most recently part of the Pirates organization in 2021, logging 57 appearances for the big club and compiling a 3.20 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 56.1 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Chasen Shreve: Joins Mets on minor-league deal
Shreve signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on Wednesday that includes an invite to major-league spring training, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Shreve made 57 relief appearances for the Pirates in 2021 and logged 11 holds while posting a 3.20 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 56.1 innings. He'll rejoin the Mets after making 17 appearances for the club during the 2020 campaign, and he'll make $1.5 million if he earns a major-league roster spot at some point.... See More ... See Less -
Chasen Shreve: Elects free agency
Shreve declined an outright assignment to the minors Saturday and elected free agency. Shreve finished with a 3.20 ERA in 56.1 innings of relief this season, but his peripherals don't support that number very well, as he struck out a career-low 19.1 percent of opposing batters while walking 11.9 percent. Still, as a competent enough lefty reliever, he should be able to find work on the open market.... See More ... See Less
