The Rangers released Shreve on Wednesday.
After failing to win a spot on the Rangers' Opening Day roster, Shreve posted a 2.70 ERA and 0.80 WHIP over 10 innings out of Triple-A Round Rock's bullpen before being cut loose. The journeyman reliever shouldn't have much trouble securing a minor-league deal elsewhere, with Shreve presumably keen on joining an organization that can present him with a clearer path to the big-league bullpen.

The Rangers informed Shreve on Friday that he will not make Texas' roster out of spring training, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.
Shreve will likely exercise the opt-out clause in his contract and look to latch on with another organization in free agency. The 33-year-old southpaw turned in a 4.63 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 44.2 innings between the Reds and Tigers last season.

Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Implodes in loss Thursday
Shreve (1-2) allowed five runs while retiring only two batters to take the loss Thursday against the Orioles. He gave up four hits and a walk.
Shreve came out for the top of the seventh inning and promptly allowed a single and a double to start the frame. Things didn't get much better from there, and the lefty saw his ERA climb from 3.00 to 7.45 in the process. Shreve wasn't much better for the Mets last year, posting a 6.49 ERA across 25 games, so expectations should be kept fairly low moving forward despite the fact he's seen high-leverage chances early this year for the Tigers.

Tigers' Chasen Shreve: Blows save, takes loss
Shreve (0-1) allowed an unearned run across 1.1 innings of work to take the loss in Wednesday's 10-inning contest against the Blue Jays.
Shreve suffered a tough-luck blown save and loss, as he allowed two inherited runners to score in the ninth inning on sacrifice flies. The lefty then allowed the automatic runner on second base to score in the 10th, giving Toronto the walkoff win. Despite the negative outcome, it's encouraging to see Shreve receive high-leverage work with the Tigers.

Shreve was informed Wednesday that he earned a spot on Detroit's Opening Day roster, and now he's officially been added to the big club. The 32-year-old struggled to a 6.49 ERA in in 25 outings for the Mets last season, but he pitched well during spring training with two earned runs allowed and a 10:3 K:BB across eight frames.

The Tigers still have to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for him, but Shreve earns a spot with the big club after forging a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB over eight innings in eight appearances in the Grapefruit League. The southpaw will likely start the campaign in a middle-innings role, but given Detroit's lack of established options in the bullpen, he could quickly move into higher-leverage opportunities.

Shreve has pitched well this spring with a 2.25 ERA and 10 strikeouts across eight Grapefruit League innings. It looks like that will help the lefty make the team with the Tigers thinning out their options Monday. Shreve figures to mostly be used situationally against left-handed hitters and likely won't have a ton of fantasy appeal, at least in the early going.

Shreve has posted a 2.70 ERA and and five strikeouts across 3.1 Grapefruit League innings so far.
It's a small sample, but Shreve is making a good first impression as he competes for a bullpen spot with the Tigers. The lefty agreed to a minor-league contract with Detroit in January following a disappointing season with the Mets in which he recorded a 6.49 ERA over 26.1 innings. However, he looked much better for Pittsburgh in 2021, posting a 3.20 ERA across 56.1 innings of relief. If Shreve can get back to that level, he should be able to stick in the majors this year.

Shreve signed a minor-league contract with Detroit on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Following a solid season in 2021 with Pittsburgh, Shreve wasn't able to get going in 2022 with the Mets, recording a 6.49 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through 26.1 frames out of the 'pen. He was able to draw a minor-league deal from the Yankees and throw 5.2 quality innings in Triple-A Scranton. If the 32-year old lefty can pick up where he left off in the minors, there is a good chance he'll make it into the Tigers' bullpen.
