May allowed a hit in a scoreless inning and earned the save in a win over the Rangers on Friday. May coughed up a two-out single but still slammed the door to finish the 6-3 win. • Athletics' Trevor May: Locks down 18th save

May recorded his 18th save in the Athletics' win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday, allowing one hit during a scoreless ninth inning. May made relatively quick work of the pinch-hitting Spencer Horwitz and Daulton Varsho after allowing a leadoff single to Santiago Espinal, throwing 11 of his 15 pitches for strikes along the way. The veteran right-hander has a win and six saves in his last seven appearances, and he's lowered his ERA from 4.78 to 3.89 since an Aug. 13 stumble against the Nationals, when he allowed five runs (three earned) over just two-thirds of an inning.

  • Athletics' Trevor May: Snags save Sunday

May struck out the only batter he faced and earned a save against the Angels on Sunday. Kirby Snead was originally called upon to finish the game for Oakland but struggled in the ninth inning. May came in to clean up the mess and struck out Mike Moustakas on three pitches to end the 10-6 victory. May has allowed three earned runs over his last 15 appearances, all coming during an ugly outing Aug. 13 against Washington. He's lowered his season ERA from 5.32 to 3.99 during that stretch and has now converted 17 of his 20 save opportunities.

  • Athletics' Trevor May: Picks up save No. 16

May picked up the save Saturday against the Angels, allowing two walks over a scoreless inning. May entered the game with a 2-1 lead in the ninth and proceeded to walk the first batter he faced on five pitches. However, the right-handed reliever was able to retire the next two batters before intentionally walking Shohei Ohtani and eventually getting out of the jam to record his 16th save of the season. May has converted each of his last six save opportunities and has not allowed an earned run since Aug. 13, lowering his season ERA to 4.03.

  • Athletics' Trevor May: Nabs 15th save

May allowed two hits and struck out three over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Mariners. May has generated a scoreless outing in 12 of his last 14 appearances, including each of his last five. Tuesday's effort was a bit of a shaky one, but he was able to strike out Eugenio Suarez with runners on second and third to escape a jam. May is now 15-for-18 in save chances this season while posting a 4.14 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 32:26 K:BB over 37 innings.

  • Athletics' Trevor May: Notches 14th save

May earned a save against the White Sox on Thursday, allowing one hit in a scoreless inning. May had a three-run lead to work with in the bottom of the ninth inning and made quick work of Chicago, needing just nine pitches to get three outs around a single. The save was the second in three days for the right-hander, pushing his total to 14 on the campaign. He had tallied 12 saves over eight big-league seasons prior to this year.

  • Athletics' Trevor May: Cruises to 13th save

May struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Royals. May threw 14 pitches (eight strikes) to submit his second straight clean inning against the Royals. He's pitched three of the last four days, so it's possible he may not be available to close if Wednesday's day game presents a save opportunity. May is at a 4.37 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 29:26 K:BB with 13 saves in 16 chances over 35 innings this season. Lucas Erceg would be the most likely candidate to collect a save chance if May is resting Wednesday.

  • Athletics' Trevor May: Records 12th save Wednesday

May recorded his 12th save in the Athletics' win over the Rangers on Wednesday, firing a scoreless ninth inning during which he allowed two hits and recorded a strikeout. May got 10 of his 12 pitches in for strikes but still had to navigate some trouble of his own making before converting his sixth save opportunity since July 18. The right-hander also now has a seven-appearance scoreless streak, a stretch that's lowered his ERA from 5.32 to 4.02. While save chances can certainly be an infrequent occurrence in Oakland, May is unquestionably the top ninth-inning option for manager Mark Kotsay at the moment.

May (3-4) recorded the win against the Giants on Saturday, firing 1.2 perfect innings during which he recorded a strikeout. May impressively needed only 20 pitches to record his five outs, flummoxing the Giants over the last inning-plus. The right-hander hit his stride in mid-June and hasn't shown any signs of slowing down -- he boasts eight saves, a hold, a 1.29 ERA and a 0.6 HR/9 across the 14 innings covering his last 14 appearances, a stretch that's lowered his ERA from 7.04 to 4.30.

All 10 of his saves have come since the start of June and he hasn't blown a chance since May 25. The 33-year-old now owns a 4.55 ERA with a 24:24 K:BB through 27.2 innings.

May walked two and struck out two in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Astros. May put two on with one out, but he was able to escape trouble with a flyout and a strikeout. This was his third consecutive scoreless outing, his most in a row since May 27-June 9, when he had six such efforts. The 33-year-old is up to nine saves with a 4.73 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 23:23 K:BB through 26.2 innings.

May now has saves in back-to-back games as he improves to 8-for-10 in opportunities this year. The 33-year-old right-hander has been solid since taking over closing duties in Oakland, pitching to a 1.74 ERA over his last 11 appearances (10.1 innings). After a rocky start, May now sports a 4.91 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP and 21:21 K:BB through 25.2 innings this season.

  • Athletics' Trevor May: Secures sixth save

May picked up the save in Tuesday's 1-0 victory over Detroit. He allowed no hits and one walk while striking out one over a scoreless inning. Oakland broke a scoreless tie in the top of the 10th inning, and May worked around the designated runner and a two-out walk in the bottom of the frame for his sixth save of the year. The right-hander gave up eight earned runs over his first eight outings of the season before he landed on the injured list in mid-April for anxiety issues, but since rejoining the active roster May 23, he has a 2.70 ERA with six saves in 17 appearances.

  • Athletics' Trevor May: Picks up fifth save

May picked up the save Friday against the White Sox. He allowed one run on one hit while striking out two over 1.1 innings. He did not walk a batter. May has now reached a new single-season career high in saves. However, his inflated 1.79 WHIP would also be the highest of his career if the season ended Friday, rendering him a bit untrustworthy in fantasy.

  • Athletics' Trevor May: Notches fourth save

May gave up a hit in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his fourth save of the season in a 5-4 win over the Blue Jays. The game seemed like it was headed for extra innings until Shea Langeliers launched a solo shot off Toronto closer Jordan Romano in the top of the ninth, setting the stage for May to wrap things up. The veteran reliever has been tagged for earned runs only once in nine appearances in June while going 4-for-4 on save chances, but his 3.68 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 6:7 K:BB through 7.1 innings on the month suggest his hold on the closer role in Oakland is tenuous at best.

  • Athletics' Trevor May: Takes fourth loss Tuesday

May (1-4) took the extra-inning loss against the Guardians on Tuesday, allowing an unearned run on a hit and a walk without retiring a batter. Entrusted with preserving a 2-2 tie when he entered in the 10th inning, May issued an intentional walk to Josh Naylor to open his appearance and ultimately surrendered a game-winning RBI single to Andres Gimenez. The veteran right-hander had gone into Tuesday with eight scoreless efforts in his previous nine outings, and despite the hiccup versus Cleveland, he's still generated a solid 3.18 ERA and three saves over the 11.1 innings he's logged across 12 appearances since being activated from the injured list May 23.

  • Athletics' Trevor May: Converts third save

May walked two and struck out one in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Rays. May got a little help when Randy Arozarena was caught stealing for the second out, and he set down Jose Siri on three strikes to finish the save. This was a decent bounce-back effort for May, who allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning in his appearance Sunday versus the Brewers. Prior to that messy outing, he'd posted a 5.2-inning scoreless streak. The veteran reliever is up to three saves with a 6.61 ERA, 1.84 WHIP, 13:15 K:BB and two blown saves over 16.1 innings this year.

  • Athletics' Trevor May: Grabs first save

May picked up the save in Wednesday's 9-5 victory over Pittsburgh, allowing a hit over two-thirds of a scoreless inning. May worked out of a bases-loaded jam to stave off a Pirates comeback while notching his first save of the season. After a rough start to the year, the 33-year-old May has thrown five consecutive scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 5.93 with a 1.76 WHIP and 9:10 K:BB through 13.2 innings this season. May is probably the best bet to earn saves in Oakland, though opportunities will be few and far between on a last-place A's team.

  • Athletics' Trevor May: Returns with scoreless inning

May hit two batters in a scoreless inning in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Mariners. May spent over a month on the injured list due to anxiety-related issues. He was a little shaky in his return to the big-leagues, throwing just eight of 15 pitches for strikes, but he was able to keep the game within a run. The right-hander figures to be in the mix for saves eventually, though he may need a couple more lower-leverage assignments to get back up to speed. He has a 10.29 ERA, 2.71 WHIP and 6:9 K:BB across seven innings this season.
