Iglesias is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins. Iglesias had started at second base in five of the past six games while the Mets faced a lefty-heavy schedule, but he'll retreat to the bench Wednesday even though Miami is bringing southpaw Braxton Garrett to the hill. Jeff McNeil will get the nod at second base and remains the Mets' top option at the keystone, but Iglesias should continue to play ahead of McNeil against most lefties.... See More ... See Less

Mets' Jose Iglesias: Three hits in Monday's win
Iglesias went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in Monday's 8-7 win over the Nationals. Getting the start at second base and batting eighth with left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the mound for the Nats, Iglesias produced his first three-hit performance since August 2022 -- and that game was in Coors Field. The 34-year-old was added to the roster to provide infield depth, but he's begun his Mets tenure by going 5-for-11 with a stolen base. With Jeff McNeil stumbling to a career-worst .227/.296/.320 slash line and 103.9 mile-per-hour max exit velocity so far, the door could be open for Iglesias to see more playing time than expected at the keystone, and potentially even take over the starting job.... Mets' Jose Iglesias: First MLB action since 2022
Iglesias is batting eighth and playing second base Friday against the Diamondbacks. After spending the last year and change in the minor leagues, Iglesias got called up from Triple-A Syracuse and will give Jeff McNeil a breather Friday. Iglesias figures to operate as a reserve infielder with the Mets and is capable of playing second, shortstop and third base.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Jose Iglesias: Added to roster
The Mets selected Iglesias' contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. The Mets have been playing without a true backup middle infielder of late, but that will change with Iglesias being added to the roster. The 34-year-old has slashed .273/.309/.442 with seven home runs this season at Syracuse.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Jose Iglesias: Unlikely to opt out
Iglesias is expected to report to Triple-A Syracuse after he said Sunday that he doesn't plan to exercise the opt-out clause in his minor-league deal with the Mets, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. After being informed Saturday that he wouldn't be included on the Mets' Opening Day roster, Iglesias looked like a candidate to request a release that would allow him to sign elsewhere, but he'll instead stick around in the organization a little longer to begin the season. If a promotion to the majors isn't imminent in the first few weeks of the minor-league season, however, Iglesias could change his mind and pursue an opportunity elsewhere.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Jose Iglesias: Won't make Opening Day roster
Iglesias was informed Saturday that he won't be making the Mets' Opening Day roster, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Iglesias signed a minor-league contract with the Mets in December that included an invitation to spring training. He posted a respectable .294/.333/.471 batting line over 34 at-bats in Grapefruit League play, but the Mets didn't have room for him on the Opening Day roster as a backup infielder.... See More ... Mets' Jose Iglesias: Signs minors contract with Mets
The Mets signed Iglesias to a minor-league contract Tuesday with an invitation to major-league spring training. Iglesias did not appear in a big-league game in 2023, though he posted an impressive .317/.356/.537 batting line across 135 plate appearances with the Triple-A affiliate of the Padres. He'll turn 34 years old next month but can offer organizational infield depth for New York in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Jose Iglesias: Opts out again
Iglesias opted out of his minor-league contract with the Padres on Monday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. This marks the third minor-league contract Iglesias has opted out of this season -- once with the Marlins and now twice with the Padres. The 33-year-old shortstop holds a nice .314/.354/.542 slash line through 130 plate appearances in Triple-A. He will presumably now search for an organization that can offer a more direct path to the majors.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Jose Iglesias: Re-signs on MiLB deal
San Diego re-signed Iglesias on Tuesday to a minor-league contract. Iglesias went 3-for-5 with two doubles in his return to the Triple-A El Paso lineup. The infielder triggered an out clause in his minor-league pact with the Padres on Friday, but after testing the waters he's back with the San Diego organization for the foreseeable future. Iglesias will have to be added to the 40-man roster if the Padres decide he's worthy of a call-up to the 26-man active group.... See More ... See Less -
Jose Iglesias: Opts out of Padres deal
Iglesias opted out of his minor-league contract with the Padres on Friday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Iglesias latched on with the Padres after opting out of his minor-league pact with the Marlins in late April and now it appears he's on the move again. The 33-year-old shortstop has batted .276/.330/.414 with one home run across 21 games at the Triple-A level this season. It's not clear whether Iglesias might have a major-league contract in the works somewhere or if he's just decided a promotion to San Diego isn't happening.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Jose Iglesias: Gets MiLB deal with Friars
Iglesias signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Tuesday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. After opting out of his minor-league deal with Miami on Thursday, Iglesias now joins the Padres as an organizational depth piece. The 33-year-old shortstop had a solid season in the majors last year (.292 AVG, .708 OPS), but as long as Xander Bogaerts is in San Diego, it's unlikely that Iglesias gets many reps with the big-league squad.... Jose Iglesias: Opts out of deal
Iglesias opted out of his minor-league contract with the Marlins on Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. After failing to make the Marlins' major-league roster out of spring training, or get added to the 26-man roster when Joey Wendle (ribs) landed on the IL, Iglesias took the hint that he wasn't really in Miami's plans and is now free to sign with any team he chooses. The 33-year-old shortstop slashed .292/.328/.380 over 467 plate appearances last season with the Rockies, so there should be a handful of teams interested in bringing him on -- likely as a bench piece.... Marlins' Jose Iglesias: Won't be on Opening Day roster
Marlins general manager Kim Ng said Sunday that Iglesias won't make the Opening Day roster but will stay in the organization, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. The Marlins signed Iglesias earlier this month on a minor-league deal and afforded him the opportunity to compete for a reserve role with the big club, but another veteran non-roster invitee in Yuli Gurriel appears set to beat him out for the bench gig. Iglesias received only 13 plate appearances over five Grapefruit League games, hitting just .167. Iglesias will presumably head to Triple-A Jacksonville rather than immediately opting out of his minor-league deal to pursue opportunities elsewhere.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jose Iglesias: On roster bubble
Iglesias is not considered a lock to make the Marlins' Opening Day roster, Barry Jackson and Craig Mish of the Miami Herald report. It sounds like there will be just one roster spot for either Iglesias or Yuli Gurriel, both of whom are in camp as non-roster invitees. Which way the team might be leaning out of the two isn't clear. Iglesias, 33, is 2-for-11 in four games so far during Grapefruit League play and "hasn't looked great this spring," per Jackson and Mish.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jose Iglesias: Joins Marlins
Iglesias signed a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to spring training with the Marlins on Thursday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Iglesias spent the 2022 season with Colorado and managed a solid .292/.328/.380 line across 467 appearances. He won't have the benefit of Coors Field as his home park with Miami, though he should have a legitimate chance to make the Opening Day roster as insurance at shortstop behind Joey Wendle.... Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Takes seat for finale
Iglesias isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. Iglesias went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Tuesday and will head to the bench for the third time in the last four games. Elehuris Montero is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth.... Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Not in Monday's lineup
Iglesias isn't starting Monday against the Dodgers. Iglesias has gone 1-for-12 with a strikeout over three games since returning from the injured list, and he'll head to the bench for a second consecutive matchup. Brendan Rodgers is serving as the designated hitter and batting third.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Heads to bench Sunday
Iglesias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. Iglesias is 1-for-12 in three games since being activated from the injured list Wednesday, and he'll take a seat for Sunday's series finale. C.J. Cron will serve as the designated hitter while Michael Toglia starts at first base.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Not in Thursday's lineup
Iglesias isn't starting Thursday against the Giants, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. Iglesias returned from the injured list for Wednesday's game against San Francisco and went 0-for-4. He'll head to the bench a day later while Elehuris Montero serves as the designated hitter and bats seventh.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Returns from IL
Iglesias (thumb) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and is starting at shortstop and batting second Wednesday against the Giants, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. The 32-year-old has been sidelined over three weeks by the thumb injury but will rejoin the Rockies for the final week of the season. Prospect Ezequiel Tovar has taken over the starting role at shortstop, but Iglesias should still find regular playing time down the stretch in the middle infield and at designated hitter, especially with Charlie Blackmon (knee) now done for the year.... Michael Baron@michaelgbaron5M agoSomehow, the #Mets are one game out of the third wild card, 34-37 on the year. They still have three teams ahead of them, but that's a pretty remarkable place to be in, considering how bad they were before the team meeting/roster shakeup.
