  • Guardians' Estevan Florial: Gets second straight start

Florial will serve as the Guardians' designated hitter and No. 7 batter in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Florial will get his second straight start against a right-handed starting pitcher (Cooper Criswell) after he went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI in Tuesday's 4-1 win. The 26-year-old looks to be gaining traction as Cleveland's primary designated hitter.

  • Ramon Laureano RF | CLE

Guardians' Ramon Laureano: Losing out on reps vs. RHPs

Laureano is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Laureano is on the bench for the second game in a row, with both of his absences coming against right-handed starting pitchers (Tanner Houck and Cooper Criswell). Guardians manager Stephen Vogt hasn't indicated that Laureano is dealing with an injury, so the consecutive absences from the lineup would seemingly signal that the 29-year-old is losing playing time after hitting just .174 through his first 46 at-bats of the season. Estevan Florial is included in the lineup at designated hitter for the second straight contest and seems set to benefit the most if Laureano's role continues to shrink.

  • Cionel Perez RP | BAL

Orioles' Cionel Perez: Starting rehab assignment

Perez (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, Brent Maguire of MLB.com reports.

Perez has been out since the opening weekend of the season with a right oblique strain but has trended in a good direction recently and is ready to test things out in a game setting. He figures to need at least a couple rehab appearances before rejoining the Orioles' bullpen.

  • Max Kepler RF | MIN

Twins' Max Kepler: Gets Wednesday off

Kepler is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

After going 3-for-8 with four RBI and a run scored while starting the first two games of the series following his return from the injured list, Kepler will get a breather Wednesday. Kepler doesn't appear to have suffered any setbacks in his recovery from a right knee contusion; instead, the lefty-hitting outfielder's absence Wednesday likely has more to do with southpaw Garrett Crochet being on the bump for Chicago.

  • Trevor Larnach LF | MIN

Twins' Trevor Larnach: Heads to bench versus lefty

Larnach is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

After starting each of the past seven games while going 7-for-20 with four extra-base hits (two home runs, two doubles), the lefty-hitting Larnach will retreat to the bench while southpaw Garrett Crochet takes the hill for the White Sox. Though Minnesota's outfield ranks became more crowded earlier this week when Max Kepler returned from the IL, expect manager Rocco Baldelli to open up at least semi-regular work for Larnach while he's wielding a hot bat.

  • Edouard Julien 2B | MIN

    Twins' Edouard Julien: Resting Wednesday

Julien is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

The lefty-hitting Julien will retreat to the bench Wednesday while southpaw Garrett Crochet takes the bump for Chicago. Kyle Farmer will step in for Julien at second base and will bat eighth.

  • Alex Kirilloff RF | MIN

Twins' Alex Kirilloff: Riding pine Wednesday

Kirilloff is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

The lefty-hitting Kirilloff will get his first day off since April 15 while the White Sox bring a southpaw (Garrett Crochet) to the hill Wednesday. With Kirilloff on the bench, Ryan Jeffers will get a day off behind the plate and will serve as Minnesota's DH.

  • Brandon Drury 2B | LAA

Angels' Brandon Drury: Hamstring injury lingering

Angels manager Ron Washington said Wednesday that Drury is still feeling soreness from last week's left hamstring injury, Anthony Bautista of The Sporting Tribune reports.

Drury is out of the lineup Wednesday for a third straight game, although Washington said the 31-year-old is available to pinch hit. The Angels are idle Thursday, so Drury could be ready to return to the lineup Friday versus the Twins. Luis Rengifo is at second base Wednesday.

  • Ken Waldichuk SP | OAK

Athletics' Ken Waldichuk: Improves velocity in latest bullpen

Waldichuk (elbow) threw a successful 30-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, MLB.com reports. "Waldichuk looked really good and got his velocity up from his last bullpen," said A's manager Mark Kotsay. "He's trending in the right direction."

Waldichuk has now thrown three bullpen sessions over the last eight days alone, certainly an encouraging sign with respect to his surgically repaired elbow's strength. The left-hander is slated to throw additional bullpen sessions during the Athletics' road trip before facing hitters in a simulated game at some point next week, after which he'll head out on a rehab assignment, per Kotsay.

  • Blake Snell SP | SF

Giants' Blake Snell: Adductor strain considered moderate

Giants manager Bob Melvin said Wednesday that Snell could miss beyond the minimum 15 day with what has been termed a moderate left adductor strain, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Snell first felt the injury during a recent bullpen session and still was in discomfort when he attempted to throw again, necessitating a move to the injured list Wednesday. San Francisco will use an opener in Ryan Walker followed by likely bulk reliever Mitch White in Snell's place Wednesday, but how it plans to fill the spot in subsequent days is not yet clear.
