  • Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Bullpen session goes well

Martinez (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Sunday, MLB.com reports.

This was Martinez's first session on a mound since he was shut down with shoulder inflammation, or a dead arm as manager Torey Lovullo had described it. The report indicates the session went "real well," and that the reliever felt good. The manager also used the word "sizzling" to describe how the ball has been coming out of Martinez's hand while he worked through his throwing program, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. A return for this coming weekend's series against the Rockies is a possibility.

  • Jordan Romano RP | PHI

Phillies' Jordan Romano: Grabs third save

Romano struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Guardians.

Romano has pitched five consecutive scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out five and walking none in that span. He's picked up two saves and a hold during that stretch. Amid a rough start to the season, Romano was demoted to a low-leverage role, and a six-run blowup against the Marlins on April 19 didn't help him regain trust quickly. He's found a little bit of stability now, and it could be telling that Romano got the ninth inning against the heart of Cleveland's order while Jose Alvarado handled the eighth inning in Sunday's contest. However, barring an announcement from manager Rob Thomson, it's best to view the Phillies' bullpen as an emerging closer committee for now.

  • Porter Hodge RP | CHC

Cubs' Porter Hodge: Sustains first loss Sunday

Hodge (2-1) allowed three runs on three hits while retiring just one batter to take the loss Sunday against the Mets.

A day after converting his second save of the season, Hodge struggled to replicate the positive results. The righty saw things crumble in the eighth inning with the score tied 2-2, and his ERA climbed from 4.24 to 5.71 in the process. Hodge was potentially gaining on Ryan Pressly as Chicago's preferred closing option, though this might set the former back to some degree. With Pressly's ERA sitting at 7.07, neither pitcher is inspiring much confidence from fantasy managers.

  • Ryan Walker RP | SF

Giants' Ryan Walker: Blows save, takes loss

Walker (1-2) yielded two runs (one earned) on two hits and an intentional walk while taking the loss against Minnesota on Sunday. He recorded two outs in the 10th inning and was charged with a blown save.

Walker entered the bottom of the 10th inning with a 6-5 lead and hit another speed bump. He gave up an RBI groundout to Ryan Jeffers and a walk-off single to DaShawn Keirsey. Walker has blown two of his nine save chances this season and has been tagged with nine earned runs over his last six innings. His ERA has ballooned up to 6.43 across 14 frames this season. Camilo Doval has gone 13.1 innings -- including one Sunday -- since yielding his last earned run.

  • Trevor Megill RP | MIL

Brewers' Trevor Megill: Notches fifth save

Megill earned the save in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Rays, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.

Megill was called upon to protect a 4-2 lead in the ninth and did so on just 13 pitches. Since blowing his first save April 12, the 31-year-old has converted four straight chances while yielding only one run over nine appearances. On the season, he owns a 3.18 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 15:6 K:BB across 11.1 innings while securing five saves in six opportunities.

  • Dennis Santana RP | PIT

Pirates' Dennis Santana: Snags win in relief

Santana (1-1) picked up the win in Sunday's 4-3 victory over Atlanta, pitching a clean inning with one strikeout.

The 29-year-old fired a clean ninth inning in a 3-3 tie, requiring only 11 pitches, eight of which were strikes. Santana was then credited with his first win of the season when Joey Bart drove home the winning run in the bottom of the frame. Santana, who is battling with David Bednar for the closer role in Pittsburgh, bagged the latest Pirates' save in Friday's contest. Through 17.1 innings, Santana has pitched to a 2.08 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB.

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Saddled with loss

Iglesias (2-3) took the loss in Sunday's contest at Pittsburgh. He allowed one run on two hits and a walk in one-third of an inning.

The veteran closer entered in the ninth inning with the score tied at 3-3 and failed to send the game to extras. Iglesias looked unsteady from the start, allowing two consecutive singles to open the frame. The game ended on a fielder's choice as the Atlanta infield was unable to convert a Joey Bart groundball into an out. After Iglesias pitched to a spectacular 1.95 ERA across 69.1 innings in 2024, he has struggled through 15.1 frames this season, pitching to a 5.87 ERA and 1.24 WHIP while already allowing six homers.

  • Juan Mejia RP | COL

Rockies' Juan Mejia: Bumped down to Triple-A

The Rockies optioned Mejia to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday.

Mejia was unlikely to be available for the next couple of days after he gave up seven runs (four earned) in 1.1 innings and tossed 44 pitches in Saturday's 21-0 loss to the Padres, so the Rockies opted to replace him on the 26-man roster. Colorado called up lefty Ryan Rolison to take Mejia's spot in the bullpen.

  • Ryan Rolison RP | COL

    Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Receives call-up

The Rockies selected Rolison's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday.

Rolison will be making his MLB debut when he gets into a game. He was previously a member of the Rockies' 40-man roster during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, but his standing in the organization fell after he struggled to bounce back from June 2022 shoulder surgery. Though initially developed him as a starter, Rolison made the full-time transition to relief in 2024 and has found some success. Over 12 appearances in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League this season, Rolison has delivered a 3.72 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB over 19.1 innings.

  • Elvis Peguero RP | MIL

Brewers' Elvis Peguero: Moves up to big leagues

The Brewers recalled Peguero from Triple-A Nashville on Sunday.

Milwaukee sent starter Tobias Myers to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Peguero was a staple of the Milwaukee bullpen in 2024, but the 28-year-old righty posted a 5.68 ERA and 1.74 WHIP in five appearances to begin the season before being optioned to Nashville on April 11. The right-hander has performed better over the past month at Triple-A, giving up two earned runs on six hits and four walks over eight innings across seven appearances.
