Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott will continue being Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott for a bit longer.
Scott has received a contract extension that will have him continue in his role through 2022, according to Sports Illustrated. He’ll also remain the executive chairman of Pac-12 Enterprises.
The decision doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Scott had a year left on his current deal, and he’s done an awful lot since taking over the Pac-12 in 2009.
When he joined the conference, it was still the Pac-10, and he helped bring both Colorado and Utah into the fold as as part of conference expansion. Scott was also instrumental in working out the league’s latest television deal, which was worth nearly $3 billion. When signed, it was the most lucrative TV deal in college football history.
Still, while Scott has helped bring the Pac-12 into modern times, there have been some problems. The Pac-12 Network has really struggled to find solid footing since its inception. While the Big Ten and SEC receive a ton of money for their networks, the Pac-12 Network has seemingly been fighting to get into homes within the Pac-12 footprint.
The good news for Scott is that he has another five years to work on solving it.
