  • Panthers' Danick Martel: Acquired from in-state rivals

Martel was brought in via trade by the Panthers from the Lightning on Thursday in exchange for Anthony Greco.

Martel hasn't appeared in an NHL game for the Lightning this season, though he did log nine games with Tampa Bay back in 2018-19 in which he tallied two helpers, 12 hits and 16 shots. The center figures to remain in the minors with AHL Springfield for the most of the rest of the year but could be among the Black Aces call-ups.

  • Lightning's Danick Martel: Re-signs with Tampa Bay

Martel signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Lightning on Thursday, Joe Smith of The Athletic reports.

Martel sat as a healthy scratch more often than not in 2018-19, finishing the campaign with two assists in nine appearances with the big club. He'll likely have a similar role with the Lightning in 2019-20, so there's no reason for fantasy owners to concern themselves with his status.

  • Lightning's Danick Martel: Qualified by Tampa

Martel has received a qualifying offer from the Lightning, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Martel had trouble cracking a stacked Tampa Bay lineup last season, posting two assists in just nine appearances. His experience in 2019-20 is likely to be similar.

  • Lightning's Danick Martel: Gets assist in rare appearance

Martel played Tuesday for the first time since Jan. 10 and recorded an assist in a 6-3 win over Calgary.

Martel played with Cedric Paquette and Ryan Callahan. It was just the sixth time he has played since joining the roster. There's just no fantasy value in that.

  • Lightning's Danick Martel: Healthy scratch again

Martel is once again a healthy scratch after playing two games last week.

Martel is a small, high-energy buzzsaw on the NHL's best team. He has dressed for just six games this season and mustered one assist on 12 shots. Martel is a great story, but he just doesn't play enough to warrant any kind of fantasy attention.

  • Lightning's Danick Martel: Plays after long benching

Martel dressed for three straight games right before Christmas after being a healthy scratch for the previous five weeks.

He even picked up his first NHL point against Vancouver on Thursday night. And despite playing just 6 minutes, 57 seconds, Martel was the most hated man in the building because of his abrasive play (four PIM). His ice time was just over nine minutes in the other two games, but he produced no points. Martel has just that one point in four games this season, so don't look here for fantasy production.

  • Lightning's Danick Martel: Learning game from press box

Martel remains the Lightning's 13th forward and a healthy scratch.

Martel has only seen ice time in one contest -- Nov. 10 against the Sens. He laid three hits and fired the same number of shots in 12:06. The Bolts tend to favor small forwards, so Martel has a shot with them. But they already have a lot of smaller guys on the ice right now.

  • Lightning's Danick Martel: Returns from conditioning stint

Martel is back with the Lightning on Sunday after a conditioning assignment with AHL Syracuse.

Martel was sent down to get some game action, and he had one assist in four minor-league games. He's needed for depth since Ondrej Palat (lower body) is considered day-to-day. Martel's first chance to crack the lineup is Tuesday versus the Predators.

  • Lightning's Danick Martel: Sent out for conditioning assignment

Martel was reassigned to AHL Syracuse for a conditioning stint Thursday.

Martel has yet to appear in a game for the Lightning this season, with his conditioning assignment designed to get him some game action with the Crunch. Considering the depth the team has at forward, it seems unlikely this will be the natural center's last stint in the minors -- even if it's just a temporary move this time.

  • Lightning's Danick Martel: Still waiting for Lightning debut

Martel is likely a healthy scratch Thursday against Vancouver, reports the Tampa Times.

Martel is waiting to make his Lightning debut. The small, electric winger is coming off a 25-goal, 40-point season (59 games) with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL. The Bolts have played just one game and the coaches are working to figure out lines right now. He'll get his shot, but don't expect fantasy miracles if he's on a lower line. Keep Martel on the wire.

  • Lightning's Danick Martel: Wins roster spot with Bolts

Martel survived the final cut and is now a member of the Lightning, reports Nick Kelly of the Tampa Times.

Martel had 117 points in the AHL over the last three seasons, and at 23, he looks like he could be a interesting checker for the Bolts.

  • Flyers' Danick Martel: Subjected to waivers

Martel was waived by the Flyers on Friday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Martel is only 5-foot-8 and 162 pounds as a 23-year-old, but the kid has wheels and he's been a force for AHL Lehigh Valley for three years running. Technically, he's been associated with that minor-league club for parts of four seasons, adding 68 goals and 52 assists over 199 games. There's a four-game cup of coffee at the top level on his resume as well, but Martel is clearly not in the NHL mix at this point in time.

  • Lightning's Danick Martel: Claimed by Lightning

Martel was claimed off waivers by the Lightning on Saturday, Elliotte Freedman of Sportsnet.ca reports.

It makes sense that Tampa Bay would take a chance on the diminutive center, given the success the franchise has seen from Martin St. Louis and, more recently, Tyler Johnson. Cracking the team's NHL roster will be tough, but the accomplished AHL scorer could do it if Martel's able to showcase that scoring touch at the highest level.

  • Flyers' Danick Martel: Inks two-way deal with Philadelphia

Martel signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Flyers on Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Martel was productive in the minors last season, totaling 25 goals and 40 points in 59 games. The 23-year-old pivot's skill set is well suited for the AHL, but at just 5-foot-8, he'll likely have a tough time finding success at the NHL level.

  • Flyers' Danick Martel: Earns qualifying offer

Martel was given a qualifying offer by the Flyers on Monday, Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Martel made his NHL debut during the 2017-18 campaign, as he averaged 10:13 of ice time in his four appearances. The undrafted center failed to pick up a point in his limited appearances for Philadelphia. The 23-year-old will likely be given a look during training camp but will probably start the year in the minors with AHL Lehigh Valley.

  • Flyers' Danick Martel: Back in action

Martel (jaw) recorded an assist in Sunday's 5-3 victory over AHL Binghamton.

Martel appears to be back on track after suffering a broken jaw in January. While the Flyers could promote the 23-year-old down the road, he figures to be a long shot for a postseason call-up. In his previous four outings with Philadelphia, Martel was held off the scoresheet, but he's tallied 21 goals and 12 helpers in 47 minor-league contests.

  • Flyers' Danick Martel: Suffers broken jaw

Martel broke his jaw during a rough collision with Colby Williams during a 2-1 victory against AHL Hershey on Saturday, official AHL Lehigh Valley radio announcer Bob Rotruck reports.

During the second period, Martel was trying to move up the ice with the puck, when Williams left his feet and made direct contact to his head and upper body, which resulted in an ejection and 10-minute match penalty. Martel had surgery Sunday for the injury and is expected to make a full recovery, though an exact timetable for his return wasn't revealed. The 23-year-old has been dynamic in the AHL this season with 26 points (27 goals, nine assists) in 36 games, but wasn't able to muster a point during his four-game stint with the Flyers.

  • Flyers' Danick Martel: En route to AHL

Martel was reassigned to AHL Lehigh Valley on Wednesday.

The move ends Martel's unremarkable one-week stint with the Flyers. During this time, the rookie skated in four games, going scoreless with a minus-1 rating and six shots on goal. Martel is a diminutive winger who's already bagged 14 goals in 17 AHL contests this season and could have another chance to prove his worth at the NHL level at some point in the campaign.

  • Flyers' Danick Martel: Earns first recall

Martel was called up from AHL Lehigh Valley on Wednesday.

The recall is the first of Martel's career and, with Matt Read sent down in a corresponding move, will potentially give him the opportunity to see his first NHL action. The 22-year-old has enjoyed a nice season in the minors this year, racking up 14 goals and 19 total points in 17 games for the Phantoms, so it'll be worth seeing if he can properly adjust to the speed of the game at the top level.
