  • Red Wings' Jack Campbell: Lands on waivers

Campbell (not injury related) was placed on waivers Sunday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Campbell signed a one-year deal with Detroit before entering the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program. If he clears waivers, Campbell will likely report to AHL Grand Rapids as a depth option for the Red Wings. The 32-year-old netminder made five appearances with Edmonton last season, going 1-4-0 with an .873 save percentage.

  • Red Wings' Jack Campbell: Enters player assistance program

Campbell will be away from the Red Wings indefinitely after entering the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reports Friday.

Campbell signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Red Wings over the summer. He joined a crowded Detroit goalie situation that also includes Ville Husso, Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon. Campbell had a 2.63 GAA and a .918 save percentage in 33 regular-season contests with AHL Bakersfield in 2023-24 after struggling with Edmonton during the early portion of the campaign, posting a 4.50 GAA and an .873 save percentage across five appearances from Oct. 11-Nov. 4. When Campbell is ready to play, he will likely spend time with AHL Grand Rapids.

  • Red Wings' Jack Campbell: Trying to rebound on one-year deal

Campbell signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Red Wings on Monday.

Campbell is an interesting case. He struggled mightily early in the 2023-24 season, posting a 4.49 GAA and an .873 save percentage across five regular-season starts with Edmonton. The Oilers sent him to AHL Bakersfield, and although Campbell did well at that level with a 2.63 GAA and a .918 save percentage in 33 regular-season appearances, he never got another shot with Edmonton. Instead, the Oilers bought out the final three campaigns of his five-year, $25 million deal, which is how he became an unrestricted free agent eligible to sign with Detroit. Campbell will enter training camp looking to revive his career, but he'll face stiff competition for a roster spot with Ville Husso, Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon also under contract. At least one of Detroit's goalies is likely to be traded or waived prior to Opening Night, with Campbell's path to making the roster the longest of the four.

  • Jack Campbell: Lands on unconditional waivers

Campbell was placed on unconditional waivers by the Oilers on Sunday for the purpose of buying out his contract.

Campbell had three more seasons left on his five-year, $25 million deal. He will become an unrestricted free agent once the buyout process is completed. The 32-year-old netminder posted a 1-4-0 record with a 4.50 GAA and an .873 save percentage in five regular-season appearances with Edmonton in 2023-24. He went 18-13-1 with a 2.63 GAA and a .918 save percentage across 33 regular-season contests for AHL Bakersfield after being waived and demoted to the minors in November.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Recalled Sunday

Campbell was promoted from AHL Bakersfield on Sunday.

AHL Bakersfield was knocked out of the Calder Cup playoffs so Campbell will likely be serving as the third goalie for the Oilers. He went 1-4-0 with an .873 save percentage at the NHL level this season and hasn't appeared in a game at the top level since Nov. 4.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Excelling at AHL level

Campbell has a .935 save percentage in his last seven games with AHL Bakersfield, per Mark Spector of Sportsnet.

Edmonton general manager Ken Holland allowed Campbell to play right away after he was demoted by the Oilers on Nov. 8. "In hindsight, I think I made a mistake that when I sent him down. Probably should not have had him play right off the bat," Holland said. Campbell was 1-4-0 with a 4.49 GAA and a .873 save percentage before his demotion and started poorly in the AHL, losing four of his first five games while giving up 16 goals on 138 shots. He could return to the Oilers to back up Stuart Skinner and if he does, look for Calvin Pickard to return to the AHL.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Passes through waivers

Campbell went unclaimed off the waiver wire and was reassigned to AHL Bakersfield on Wednesday.

It's an indication of how poorly Campbell has played this season that no other team was willing to put in a claim for the netminder. On the year, the backstop is 1-4-0 with a career-worst 4.49 GAA and .873 save percentage. No doubt Campbell's $5 million cap hit played a factor as well. In a corresponding move, Calvin Pickard has been added to the NHL roster.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Waived for AHL demotion

Campbell was placed on waivers Tuesday for the purpose of assignment to AHL Bakersfield.

In 41 games since signing a five-year, $25 million contract with the Oilers in July of 2022, Campbell has posted a 22-13-4 record with one shutout, a 3.53 GAA and an .886 save percentage. He has a registered a mark of 1-4-0 this campaign with a 4.50 GAA and an .873 save percentage through five appearances. Once Campbell is claimed or clears, Edmonton is expected to bring up netminder Calvin Pickard to serve as Stuart Skinner's backup.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Mauled by Predators

Campbell turned aside 29 shots in Saturday's 5-2 loss to Nashville.

The Oilers took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, but the game was essentially all Predators from there as the Edmonton defense crumbled in front of Campbell. It's the netminder's third straight loss, and through five appearances to begin the season he's saddled with a brutal 4.50 GAA and .873 save percentage to go along with his 1-4-0 record. Expect Stuart Skinner to be back between the pipes Monday in Vancouver, although the Oilers' issues won't be solved by a goalie switch.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Tending twine Saturday

Campbell will patrol the home crease Saturday against Nashville, according to Oilers play-by-by announcer Jack Michaels.

Campbell has surrendered 15 goals on 123 shots en route to a 1-3-0 start to the 2023-24 season. He has a 5-1-1 record with a 2.84 GAA and a .912 save percentage in seven career contests versus the Predators.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Struggles mightily in Twin Cities

Campbell allowed six goals on 30 shots in a 7-4 road loss against the Wild on Tuesday.

Campbell and the Oilers actually had a 3-2 lead heading into the third period, but the final 20 minutes was disastrous. The Wild notched three even-strength goals, a power-play goal and an empty-net score to pull away. Campbell has allowed four or more goals in three of his four assignments this season. The good news for the veteran netminder's fantasy managers is Stuart Skinner has performed even worse in limited action early on this season, so Campbell's hold on the No. 1 job in Edmonton appears to be secure for the time being.

  • Oilers' Jack Campbell: Expected to guard road crease

Campbell is slated to start on the road versus Minnesota on Tuesday, according to Jessi Pierce of NHL.com.

Campbell has a 1-2-0 record, 3.65 GAA and .902 save percentage in three contests this season. He's coming off a 4-1 loss to Philadelphia on Thursday in which he stopped 28 of 32 shots. Campbell is 0-3-1 in four career outings against Minnesota, posting a 2.98 GAA and an .897 save percentage in that span.
