The 2022 fourth-round pick last saw game action in Week 14, but he's evidently past his ankle issue and has been spotted taking reps at inside linebacker during Carolina's OTAs. Prior to suffering the season-ending injury, Smith logged eight tackles in 12 games.

Smith will now have to miss the remainder of the regular season recovering from an ankle injury he sustained during Carolina's win at Seattle in Week 14. The Panthers are still mathematically alive in the NFC playoff race, so it's not certain that the rookie fourth-rounder's season is over just yet.
