  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Step forward expected in 2024

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh reiterated Tuesday that he expects Bateman to "take a big step" forward in 2024. According to Ryan Mink of the Ravens' official site, Harbaugh made similar comments earlier this month, noting that the 2021 first-round pick will be a starter in 2024 and is expected to take on more snaps. On the other hand, the Ravens have already re-signed wideout Nelson Agholor, and Harbaugh said he's also hoping to keep soon-to-be free agent Odell Beckham around. Neither Agholor nor Beckham would automatically block Bateman from a starting job, but both could be threats to his quantity of snaps and routes, just as they were in 2023. Bateman seemed to get open more often as the 2023 season unfolded, perhaps regaining some explosiveness with time after undergoing season-ending Lisfranc surgery the year prior. A breakout of sorts is certainly possible, but it probably wouldn't translate to much production in fantasy terms, given that the Ravens routinely rank near the bottom of the league in pass attempts and have wideout Zay Flowers and tight end Mark Andrews to account for a large chunk of the targets.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Falls flat in Year 3

Bateman finished the 2023 regular season season with 32 catches for 367 yards and one touchdown on 56 targets over 16 games. The bright spot for Bateman was that he was able to stay healthy for most of the season, with the 16 games being a career high. Other than that, it was a down season for the 2021 first-round pick. He caught just 57 percent of his targets and had a 7.1 percent drop rate. Bateman was also not a threat after the catch with an average of 2.1 YAC per reception. Quarterback Lamar Jackson averaged 8.0 yards per attempt but Bateman averaged just 6.6 yards per target. The wideout saw the second-most snaps on the team among receivers, but he just wasn't able to draw much volume or convert those targets efficiently. Bateman now enters the final year of his rookie contract with significant pressure to produce. The Ravens could look to add a receiver in what is widely considered to be a strong group in the 2024 draft.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: One catch in win

Bateman caught one of four targets for 14 yards in Monday's 33-19 win over the 49ers. Bateman has now been held under 20 receiving yards six times in 14 appearances on the season. He's found the end zone just once and hasn't topped six targets on any occasion, making him a low-upside weekly fantasy option despite being attached to an MVP candidate in quarterback Lamar Jackson. Even with star tight end Mark Andrews (ankle) on injured reserve, Bateman still appears to be a secondary option in a passing attack headlined by rookie Zay Flowers, who drew 13 targets in Week 16.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Another pedestrian outing Sunday

Bateman caught two of four targets for 24 yards Sunday in the Ravens' 37-31 overtime win over the Rams. Bateman was out-snapped and out-targeted by Nelson Agholor and once again was held under 30 receiving yards. He has a mere 11 percent target share on the season and is drawing targets on only 17 percent of his routes, the latter of which ranks in the 42nd percentile among receivers. To compound the volume issues, Bateman is catching just 55 percent of his targets. His usage has ticked up slightly since Baltimore had to reconfigure the target distribution in Mark Andrews' (ankle) absence, and the bulk of the passing game is centered on the trio of Zay Flowers, Odell Beckham and Isaiah Likely.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Back at practice

Bateman (illness) returned to practice Thursday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. Bateman missed Wednesday's session, but his return to the field a day later has him trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's game against the Rams. The Ravens' upcoming practice report will reveal whether Bateman practiced fully or was limited Thursday.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Held in check by Chargers

Bateman caught two of five targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 20-10 win over the Chargers. Bateman's usage ticked up in Baltimore's first game without Mark Andrews (ankle), but his production remained stagnant as he was held under 30 yards for the fourth consecutive week. He's played over 80 percent of Baltimore's offensive snaps over the last two weeks, so his role is solidified. However, Bateman continues to struggle to convert those snaps into bankable fantasy production. He has a catch rate of just 55.6 percent, which is in the 30th percentile among receivers. Baltimore is on a bye Week 13 before returning to action against the Rams on Sunday, Dec. 10.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Injures foot but should be fine

Bateman left Wednesday's practice early due to a foot injury, but head coach John Harbaugh said the wide receiver "should be fine" for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Per Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, Bateman went down running a route early in practice with an injury to the same foot he had surgically repaired prior to the season. While the Ravens were initially concerned over the injury, they seem to believe the wide receiver should be available moving forward. Even so, Bateman's involvement in practices Thursday and Friday will warrant monitoring.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Catches two passes in loss

Bateman secured two of his four targets for 25 yards in Sunday's 33-31 loss to the Browns. Bateman played a season-high 74 percent of snaps Sunday, though his production left much to be desired. The veteran wideout continued his streak of underwhelming performances, as he is averaging just 22.8 yards per game so far in 2023. Bateman's role in the offense seems to be growing in recent weeks, but his increased involvement has not resulted in much production. The 23-year-old might see more volume if Odell Beckham (knee) is sidelined for a Week 11 matchup against the Bengals.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: In clear for Week 10

Bateman (back) was a full practice participant Friday and doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against Cleveland. A mid-week addition to the injury report after the back issue rendered him a limited participant Thursday, Bateman took every rep Friday to clear up any concern about his availability for Sunday. While appearing in eight of the Ravens' nine games to date, Bateman has held a consistent yet unexciting role in the team's passing attack. He's drawn between two and five targets in all eight of his outings, catching 17 passes for 180 yards and no touchdowns.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Added to Week 10 injury report

Bateman was a limited participant at practice Thursday due to a back injury. Bateman was a full participant Wednesday, so the wideout may have tweaked his back at some point during Thursday's practice. Friday's injury report will reveal whether Bateman heads into Sunday's game against the Browns with an injury designation. If Bateman is out this weekend, added snaps would be available for Nelson Agholor and Devin Duvernay in a Baltimore wideout group featuring Zay Flowers and Odell Beckham.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Showing signs of progress

Bateman caught both of his targets for 34 yards Sunday against the Cardinals and added an 18-yard rush. Though the target volume remains underwhelming, Bateman is quietly turning a corner with his efficiency. In the three games since his tough outing against the Steelers in Week 5, Bateman has caught six of eight targets for 85 yards (10.6 YPT) and showed some burst after the catch in one instance Sunday. It's also worth noting that Bateman played 63 percent of the snaps Sunday, which was his highest mark since Week 3 when he tweaked his hamstring. A fully healthy Bateman improving his catch rate and explosiveness could pay fantasy dividends before too long. The Ravens host the Seahawks in Week 9.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Catches go for big gains Sunday

Bateman caught two of three targets for 36 yards in Sunday's win over the Lions. Given Bateman's slow start to the season, Sunday marked significant improvement for the 2021 first-rounder. He may not have had a high target share, but Bateman was efficient with his opportunities and notched a new season high in yardage. Bateman played more snaps than Nelson Agholor, so it will be interesting to see if that's the start of a trend going forward. The Ravens take on the Cardinals in Arizona in Week 8.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Costly drop in return

Bateman caught one of three targets for eight yards in Sunday's loss to the Steelers. Bateman was inefficient in his return from a hamstring injury and had a costly drop in the end zone. He finished the day with one reception on 27 snaps, which ranked fourth among Ravens receivers Sunday. Bateman has eight catches for 67 yards on 12 targets through four games with uninspiring marks in his peripheral numbers such as yards per route run and yards after the catch. Baltimore travels to London to face the Titans in Week 6.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Won't play Sunday

Bateman (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Browns. Odell Beckham (ankle) was also ruled out for the contest, which sets the stage for Zay Flowers, Nelson Agholor and Devin Duvernay to lead the Ravens' receiver corps, with Laquon Treadwell a potential practice squad elevation, per Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com. Bateman's next chance to see game action will come Oct. 8, when Baltimore faces Pittsburgh on the road.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Idle for another practice

Bateman (hamstring) isn't participating in Thursday's practice, Jonas Shaffer of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Bateman hasn't taken part in either of the Ravens' first two Week 4 practices and will now have one more opportunity to fit in some on-field work prior to Sunday's game in Cleveland. With Odell Beckham (also) also sitting out a fifth consecutive practice, the Ravens' receiving depth could be tested this weekend if both he and Bateman fail to get the green light to play. Beyond No. 1 wideout Zay Flowers, the Ravens have Nelson Agholor and Devin Duvernay as their other healthy receivers on the 53-man roster.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Doesn't practice Wednesday

Bateman (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday, Jonas Shaffer of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Bateman and Odell Beckham (ankle) were both absent for the Ravens' first Week 4 session. The banged-up wide receivers will have two more opportunities to practice before Sunday's game against the Browns. Should Bateman or Beckham sit out this weekend, Nelson Agholor would be poised to garner more opportunities alongside rookie wideout Zay Flowers and tight end Mark Andrews.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Dealing with hamstring issue

Bateman noted after Sunday's 22-19 overtime loss to the Colts that his hamstring tightened up on him during the contest, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports. Though Zrebiec indicates that Bateman was laboring late in the game and walked back to locker room with a pronounced limp, the wideout doesn't think his hamstring issue is anything serious. That said, Bateman's status is now worth tracking (along with that of fellow WR Odell Beckham/ankle) as next weekend's tilt against the Browns approaches.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Three catches in season-opening win

Bateman brought in all three targets for 35 yards in the Ravens' 25-9 win over the Texans on Sunday. Bateman's first foray into regular-season action since Week 8 of last season, when a Lisfranc injury cut his 2022 campaign short. The third-year wideout saw rookie Zay Flowers dominate targets in what was a low-volume day overall for the air attack, but Bateman should have a good chance for more work in what projects for a more competitive matchup on the road against the Bengals in Week 2.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Healthy heading into Week 1

Bateman avoided the Ravens' Week 1 injury report and reiterated Wednesday that he's fully recovered from last year's Lisfranc foot surgery and ready to go for Sunday's season opener versus the Texans, Clifton Brown of the Ravens' official site reports. Bateman has been snakebitten on the injury front through his first two NFL seasons, missing the first five games of his rookie campaign while recovering from groin surgery and then playing just six games in 2022 before sustaining the foot injury. The 23-year-old has at least looked like a foundational piece for the Baltimore passing attack when healthy, compiling a 61-800-3 receiving line on 96 targets through his first 18 career games. He'll face more competition for targets at receiver in 2023 with the Ravens adding veterans Odell Beckham and Nelson Agholor and first-round draft pick Zay Flowers to the position group, but Bateman still boasts the sort of speed and athleticism to emerge as the No. 1 option among the quartet.

  • Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Week 1 Waiver Priority List

I'm hopeful rookie Zay Flowers will be the No. 1 receiver in Baltimore this year, but Bateman could still be the go-to receiver for Lamar Jackson. Remember, Bateman has the best rapport with Jackson, and last year before suffering a foot injury, Bateman had two games with at least 13 PPR points in his five healthy outings. He's a potential third-year breakout candidate in 2023, and hopefully Bateman will stay healthy all season. He's worth adding for up to 5 percent of your remaining FAB where available.
