Commanders' Frankie Luvu: Still nursing shoulder injury
Luvu (shoulder) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
Luvu injured his shoulder during the Commanders' Week 18 win over the Cowboys. He started the week as a full practice participant Wednesday, so his limited action Thursday could be to mitigate the risk of aggravating the injury. Unless Luvu suffers a setback over the next few days, he should be at full strength for Sunday's wild-card round game against the Buccaneers. Luvu played in all 17 regular-season games and posted 99 tackles (54 solo), including a career-best 8.0 sacks, seven pass defenses (including one interception), two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

The 28-year-old linebacker tied Bobby Wagner for the most tackles on the Commanders' defense in Sunday's loss, bringing his season total up to 79. Luvu has produced at a high level in his first season with the Commanders after signing a three-year, $31 million deal this past offseason. Luvu recorded 10 tackles (six solo), including 2.0 sacks, during Thursday's 26-18 loss at Philadelphia.
One of Luvu's sacks in Week 11 came when he perfectly diagnosed an attempt at a flea flicker early in the second quarter and single-handedly blew it up. Luvu played 100 percent of the Commanders' defensive snaps and recorded six total tackles in Sunday's win over the Bears, however, it appears he picked up a shin injury in the process. The first-year Commander will likely need to upgrade to at least limited participation either Thursday or Friday in order to suit up in Week 9, when Washington faces the Giants.
