Lions' Riley Patterson: Attempts multiple field goals
Patterson converted both field-goal attempts and both of his PATs during Sunday's 20-6 win over Atlanta.
A drop in red-zone efficiency was inevitable for a Lions offense that racked up seven touchdowns over the first two weeks. This benefited Patterson's investors after the kicker received just one attempt in those previous contests, though his production was still a couple of steps below what some other kickers around the league have been putting up. Next for Patterson is a road trip to Lambeau Field on a short week to play a Packers defense that has allowed the 12th-fewest points thus far into the season.

Lions' Riley Patterson: Just one field-goal attempt
Patterson converted his only field-goal attempt and four of four PATs during Sunday's 37-31 overtime loss to Seattle.
Detroit's continued success with finding the end zone upon getting into enemy territory again limited Patterson's output. However, this week the kicker's stats were at least buoyed by four extra points, and it is a positive he seems to be attached to a relatively fast-paced and efficient offense that ranks fourth in offensive yards per play (5.9) and 11th in offensive plays per game (67.0) through two weeks. Better days should be ahead for Patterson as the Lions enter a Week 3 matchup with the Falcons.

Lions' Riley Patterson: Minimal output
Patterson did not attempt a field goal but converted all three PAT tries during Thursday's 21-20 win over Kansas City.
Detroit was relatively disappointing on offense given the standard it set last season. Patterson's output consequently suffered, as five drives ended in punts. Making matters worse for Patterson's fantasy output is that the Lions were able to punch in two touchdowns during two of the times they got into scoring position before fumbling the ball away on the third. Brighter days should be ahead for Patterson in advance of a Week 2 home game indoors at Ford Field.

Lions' Riley Patterson: General manager confident in him
Patterson has earned the starting kicker role for the Lions in 2023, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.
Patterson beat out Michael Badgley for the first shot at being Detroit's kicker this season, and general manager Brad Holmes said Friday that the 23-year-old has "been pretty good" and that he "feels good" about the team's decision. Patterson went 30-for-35 on field-goal attempts over 17 games as the Jaguars' kicker in 2022.

Lions' Riley Patterson: Flipped to Detroit for late pick
The Lions acquired Patterson from the Jaguars in exchange for a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick Thursday, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports.
It was initially reported that Patterson was going to be waived by the Jaguars after they signed Brandon McManus on Thursday, but Detroit swooped in late and kept Patterson from hitting the open market. Patterson went 30-of-35 on field goals last season and 36-of-37 on extra points. He kicked for the Lions in 2021 for seven games, making 13 of 14 field goals in that span.

Riley Patterson: Gets cut loose
Patterson was waived by the Jaguars on Thursday.
Patterson handled kicking duties for all 17 Jaguars games last season, making 30 of his 35 field-goal attempts and 36 of his 37 extra-point tries. In a corresponding move, Jacksonville signed former Broncos kicker Brandon McManus. Patterson will now work to find a new opportunity.

Jaguars' Riley Patterson: Signs tender with Jacksonville
Patterson signed his contract tender with the Jaguars on Thursday, Demetrius Harvey of the Florida Times-Union reports.
Patterson, who had been an exclusive rights free agent, is thus in a position to reprise his role as Jacksonville's kicker in 2023, with James McCourt currently providing depth at the position. In his first year with the Jaguars last season, the 23-year-old Patterson made 30 of his 35 field-goal attempts and 36 of his 37 extra-point tries.

Jaguars' Riley Patterson: Solid season for Jacksonville
Patterson went 30-for-35 on field-goal attempts and 36-for-37 on PATs during the 2022 regular season.
The 23-year-old was also perfect across the Jaguars' two playoff games, making three field goals and four extra points. Patterson debuted with seven appearances for Detroit in 2021, and he was solid as Jacksonville's kicker this season, going 18-for-19 on kicks inside 40 yards. James McCourt inked a reserve/future contract to provide some competition, but Patterson is an exclusive rights free agent in 2023, and there's a decent chance the team wants him back.

Jaguars' Riley Patterson: Makes game-winning kick
Patterson made a 36-yard field goal as time expired to give the Jaguars a 31-30 win over the Chargers in the wild-card round. He also made both of his extra-point tries.
Patterson did all that was required of him, helping Jacksonville seal an improbable comeback victory. He'll now turn his focus to Saturday's game versus the Chiefs in the AFC divisional round.
