  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Poised for more downfield work?

Chiefs GM Brett Veach believes Toney has a "vertical game" and can become more than a "gadget guy", ESPN's Adam Teicher reports. The Chiefs traded for the 2021 first-round pick in late October and put him in a part-time role that included 17 targets (7.3 aDOT), 10 punt returns and five carries in seven regular-season games. The nagging lower-body injuries that limited Toney in New York carried over to Kansas City, but he ultimately had a big hand in the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory with his eight total snaps in the big game including a five-yard TD catch and 65-yard punt return (both in the fourth quarter). He's now one of the top candidates to start at wide receiver for KC in 2023, along with Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Richie James, 2022 second-round pick Skyy Moore and 2023 second-rounder Rashee Rice. While Toney's 4.39 speed has mostly been on display with the ball in his hands to this point in his career, Veach seems to think the third-year wideout can have more of an impact running routes behind defenses and catching deep throws from Patrick Mahomes in 2023.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Gets back to full participation

Toney (ankle/hamstring) was a full practice participant Thursday. The Chiefs held Toney out of drills during the first week of prep for Super Bowl LVII due to a combination of ankle and hamstring injuries. He kicked off this week with a cap on his reps Wednesday, a practice in which coach Andy Reid said Toney was "doing everything," per James Palmer of NFL Network. While his listing during that session said otherwise, Toney appears to have put any questions about his health behind him following Thursday's session. After Kansas City placed Mecole Hardman (pelvis) on injured reserve Monday, the team now is prepared to roll with JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee), Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Toney as its top three wide receivers Sunday versus the Eagles.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Officially limited Wednesday

Toney (ankle/hamstring) was a limited practice participant Wednesday. After Toney didn't take part in drills last week due to ankle and hamstring injuries that he sustained in the AFC Championship Game, he got back on the field Monday. Now with an official capped session in his back pocket this week, Toney has two more chances to get back to full activity before the team potentially hands him a designation for Super Bowl LVII. With fellow wide receiver Mecole Hardman (pelvis) now on injured reserve, Toney could make a mark Sunday versus the Eagles alongside JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, assuming Toney is active.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Back at practice

Kansas City head coach Andy Reid confirmed that Toney (ankle/hamstring) practiced Monday and will likely do so again Tuesday, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports. Kansas City is holding light practices for their two unofficial workouts to begin the week before moving on to a more intense session Wednesday, when the team will release its first official injury report for the second week of prep leading up to Super Bowl LVII. How Toney is listed on Wednesday's report will be more telling with regard to where he stands in his recovery from the pair of injuries to his left leg, but he already appears to be in a better spot on the health front compared to where he was at last week. Toney was listed as a non-participant on each of last week's three injury reports, and he's currently tagged as questionable for this Sunday's title game against the Eagles.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Questionable for Super Bowl

Toney (ankle/hamstring) is listed as questionable after the first week of preparation ahead of Super Bowl LVII against the Eagles on Sunday, Feb. 12. Toney picked up ankle and hamstring injuries in this past Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bengals, which contained him to just four snaps on offense. Both Toney and JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) have questionable designations after this week, while Mecole Hardman (pelvis) is doubtful and already has been deemed unlikely to play in the Super Bowl by coach Andy Reid. If this latter point comes to pass, the statuses of Toney and Smith-Schuster become of greater import to see if one or both will be available to quarterback Patrick Mahomes (ankle).

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Not practicing yet

Toney (ankle) didn't have a helmet at Friday's practice and was throwing a ball around with JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) while the rest of the team warmed up, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports. Coach Andy Reid suggested Thursday that both Toney and Smith-Schuster have a chance to be ready for the Super Bowl, whereas Mecole Hardman (pelvis) is going for a second medical opinion and has already been deemed unlikely to play. Toney presumably needs to return for at least one practice next week to be active for the Super Bowl against Philadelphia.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Not practicing Thursday

Coach Andy Reid said Toney (ankle) won't take part in practice Thursday, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports. Toney has yet to practice since injuring his left ankle during the Chiefs' win against the Bengals in the AFC Championship Game this past Sunday, which contained him to four snaps on offense and one nine-yard catch. He's also listed with a hamstring issue on the team's initial injury report ahead of Super Bowl LVII. Reid told Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star that Toney did participate in Thursday's walkthrough, adding that the wide receiver is "close." Position mates JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) and Mecole Hardman (pelvis) also haven't mixed into drills this week, so the health of the trio will continue to be monitored to see who among them may be available Sunday, Feb. 12 against the Eagles.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: DNP to begin Super Bowl prep

Toney (ankle/hamstring) was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's estimated injury report. The Chiefs didn't hold practice as they begin preparations for Super Bowl LVII, but all of Toney, JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) and Mecole Hardman (pelvis) wouldn't have taken part in drills Wednesday. The trio was knocked out of this past Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bengals, with Toney lasting just four offensive snaps and recording a nine-yard catch on two targets before his exit. Kansas City has a week and a half to get as close to 100 percent as possible before taking on the Eagles on Feb. 12, but the team currently is down to only three healthy wide receivers (Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Justin Watson and Skyy Moore) on the active roster.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Won't return vs. Bengals

Toney (ankle) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bengals. He finished the game with a nine-yard catch on his only target and one punt return for 12 yards. Toney suffered a non-contact injury in the first half. The Chiefs are thin at wide receiver with JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) and Mecole Hardman (pelvis) both questionable to return.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Hurts leg in AFCCG

Toney (ankle) went to the locker room with athletic trainers in the first half of Sunday's AFC Championship game against the Bengals, according to Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star, and his return to the game officially is questionable. Toney went down at the end of a first-quarter catch and had his lower left leg examined in the medical tent. After that evaluation, the wide receiver made his way to the locker room. Toney had one catch for nine yards on two targets prior to exiting, with the other target resulting in an end-zone incompletion that was unsuccessfully challenged by Kansas City.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Totals 50 yards

Toney recorded five receptions on seven targets for 36 yards in Saturday's 27-20 win over the Jaguars. He added one rush for 14 yards. Toney joined Travis Kelce as the only Chiefs' pass catcher to record more than two receptions in Saturday's win. He was limited to work around the line of scrimmage, though the team continued to show the desire to keep him involved in the offense in a variety of ways. Toney will likely rotate into the game behind JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling in next week's AFC Championship Game.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Displays versatility in Week 18

Toney hauled in both targets for 18 yards and rushed three times for 26 yards and a touchdown during Saturday's 31-13 win against the Raiders. Toney was utilized as a weapon on jet sweeps in addition to making a minor impact as a receiver. Even so, Toney still finished the contest with just a 31 percent offensive snap share (18 total), sitting fourth among wide receivers. It's unlikely his snap count will balloon in the postseason, so he will likely be a touchdown-dependent option in some playoff fantasy pools.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Sleepers (Start/Sit)

We'll see what happens with Toney now that Mecole Hardman (abdomen) is back for Week 18, but I still like the idea of Toney as a flex option against the Raiders. Toney had a productive game in Week 17 against Denver with four catches for 71 yards on four targets, but he played just 16 of 53 offensive snaps and remains tough to trust. That being said, you see his explosiveness every time he touches the ball, and he could be electric on the turf in Las Vegas. It's also a good matchup since the Raiders have allowed six receivers to score at least 12 PPR points in their past five games.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Displays glimpses of ability

Toney gathered in all four targets for 71 yards during Sunday's 27-24 victory versus the Broncos. Toney hasn't delivered as much as many had hoped when the fantasy draft season began, but he got more involved in the Chiefs' offense Sunday. That being said, Toney only logged 19 offensive snaps (32 percent) in the game, so consistent production on this level shouldn't be counted on. He finished fourth among wide receivers in offensive snaps behind Marquez Valdes-Scantling (50), JuJu Smith-Schuster (39) and Justin Watson (22).

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Hits pay dirt in win

Toney caught one of two targets for eight yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 24-10 win over the Seahawks. Toney's otherwise quiet day was salvaged by an eight-yard touchdown in the first quarter on a pop pass from a jet sweep motion. The speedy wideout bobbled the ball at first but was able to gain control before finding his way into the end zone. Outside of his score, Toney was not a significant part of Kansas City's game plan, playing just 16 of the Chiefs' 53 offensive snaps. The 23-year-old is certainly a fantastic athlete and should have better days ahead when he is fully installed in the offense. However, Toney will be difficult to trust for fantasy purposes when the Chiefs host the Broncos in Week 17.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Minimal role in return

Toney (hamstring) brought in his only target for five yards and returned two punts for eight yards in the Chiefs' 30-24 overtime win over the Texans on Sunday. Toney was able to suit up for the first time since Week 11, but as his numbers indicate, he had a very minor role on an afternoon when Travis Kelce, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Jerick McKinnon absorbed the majority of Patrick Mahomes' pass attempts. Toney at least appeared to make it through the contest unscathed, so he'll have an opportunity for a bigger impact in a Week 16 home matchup against the Seahawks on Saturday afternoon.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Suits up Sunday

Toney (hamstring) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Texans, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports. Toney was limited at practice this past week, but he'll give it go Sunday, which will mark his first game appearance since injuring his hamstring during Week 11 action. With Mecole Hardman (abdomen) still not available, Toney has a chance to claim a key role in Kansas City's Week 15 passing offense alongside JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, but until the 2021 first-rounder gets a full and productive game in, he'll profile as a hit-or-miss fantasy option.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Questionable against Texans

Toney (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Texans. Toney was limited in all three of Kansas City's practices throughout the week. If Toney's given the green light in Houston, he would likely slide into the No. 3 wide receiver role behind JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, as Mecole Hardman (abdomen) isn't expected to be activated from injured reserve in Week 15.

  • Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Limited in practice Thursday

Toney (hamstring) was a limited practice participant Thursday. Toney maintained the same level of practice activity from Wednesday, but because he's missed the past three games with the hamstring injury, he'll most likely need to upgrade to full participation Friday to avoid taking a designation into Sunday's game at Houston. If available this weekend, Toney could have to vie with Mecole Hardman (abdomen) for the No. 3 receiver role. Hardman has been sidelined for the past four games, but he resumed practicing Wednesday and could be ready to return to the active roster Sunday.
