Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday that Duvernay (foot) has been working hard and "kind of building his stamina back up" this spring.
Duvernay suffered a broken fifth metatarsal Dec. 20 and didn't resume running until the spring. He's been doing some on-field activities at the first few OTA sessions but still has limitations five months removed from the major injury. Duvernay averaged only 3.5 targets per game last season despite starting in 13 of his 14 appearances, and he's likely sliding down the depth chart after the Ravens added wideouts Odell Beckham, Zay Flowers and Nelson Agholor this offseason. Duvernay is still likely to return punts and kickoffs once he's healthy, and the players in front of him for reps on offense don't have the best track records for durability or reliability.

Duvernay expressed positivity about his current physical condition, so he appears to be on track to recover before training camp. The wideout suffered a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot during practice last December. A Pro Bowl return man and a capable slot receiver, Duvernay can look forward to some stability on offense once he's healthy, with Lamar Jackson having been re-signed. There's been talk of Duvernay becoming a cap casualty after a second Pro Bowl nod activated a contract escalator that pushes his salary to a non-guaranteed $4.3 million for the fourth and final season of his rookie contract. It's a reasonable number, and arguably even a bargain, given that he's been a top-notch return man on both punts and kickoffs while also manning the slot on offense. There is some question about his health this offseason after Duvernay suffered a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot during a Dec. 20 practice, though he should have enough time to recover before training camp even if he misses OTAs and minicamp. He finished 2022 with career highs in every major receiving stat, including YPR and YPT, yet still averaged only 3.5 targets per game and thus offered little in the way of fantasy value outside of return-yardage leagues.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh confirmed Thursday that Duvernay suffered a broken fifth metatarsal of his right foot during Tuesday's practice, Clifton Brown of the Ravens' official site reports. "[It was] out of the blue. He felt something [while running a route]," Harbaugh said. "We didn't know how serious is was or wasn't until later, and they got the X-rays back and it was just a broken fifth metatarsal."
Duvernay was shuttled to injured reserve just hours after suffering the injury, opening up a spot on the 53-man roster for waiver-wire pickup Sammy Watkins in the process. Harbaugh seemed to suggest that Duvernay won't need surgery to address the injury, with the coach noting that the receiver will have a chance to return for the Super Bowl, should the Ravens be able to make an improbable postseason run. I'm willing to gamble on Duvernay this week as a No. 3 Fantasy receiver in all leagues. With Rashod Bateman (foot) out and Mark Andrews (shoulder) banged up, we could see more targets headed for Duvernay on a fast surface. Demarcus Robinson could also be a factor, and he just had six catches for 64 yards on eight targets in the game Bateman was injured in Week 8 at Tampa Bay. But Duvernay has the most upside of the group. He scored 16 PPR points against the Buccaneers, and Duvernay now has three games this season with at least 12 PPR points. The Saints have also allowed nine receivers to score at least 13 PPR points this year.

Tight end Mark Andrews (shoulder/ankle) will most likely continue operating as the No. 1 target for quarterback Lamar Jackson while Bateman is out of the lineup, but Duvernay becomes the clear top option in the Ravens' weak wide-receiver room for the back half of the season. While Bateman was sidelined Weeks 5 and 6, Duvernay put together a 6-68-0 receiving line on 12 targets to go with three carries for 24 yards and a rushing score, production that doesn't immediately vault Duvernay into must-start status. That said, the absence of Bateman can still be viewed as a positive development for Duvernay, given that the seven and five targets he drew in Weeks 5 and 6 are his highest counts of the season. The Ravens have Demarcus Robinson, James Proche, Tylan Wallace and DeSean Jackson available as their other options at receiver, but none of the quartet have been as consistently involved in the passing attack this season as Duvernay.

Duvernay secured all four targets for 31 yards, rushed twice for 33 yards and a touchdown, returned three kickoffs for 72 yards and ran back three punts for 27 yards in the Ravens' 27-22 win over the Buccaneers on Thursday night.
Duvernay's extremely busy stat line underscores his importance to the victory. The speedster's 15-yard rushing touchdown midway through the fourth quarter was critical in giving the Ravens some breathing room after the Buccaneers had closed to within 17-13, and it was his first trip to the end zone since Week 3. Duvernay's upside as a receiver is decidedly capped by his team's run-heavy approach, but if he continues to get more opportunities on the ground, it could certainly serve to supplement his overall fantasy production nicely. Duvernay's first opportunity to build on his best all-around performance of the season comes in a Week 9 road matchup against the Saints on Monday night, Nov. 7.

Duvernay has been fun to talk about but his statistical upside shouldn't enthrall you, mainly because he doesn't get enough targets to warrant anything but bye-week use as a touchdown-needy receiver. Even in full-PPR he hasn't had more than 12 points since Week 1. I'd rather take a shot at some upside on a guy like Darnell Mooney or Michael Gallup.
