Player Outlook
Hurts should be considered one of the best Fantasy quarterbacks this season, and he's worth drafting as a top-three player at his position, along with Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. In one-quarterback leagues, Hurts is worth drafting as early as Round 2. In Superflex and two-quarterback leagues, Hurts is a first-round pick. He had a magical season in 2022 as he helped the Eagles reach the Super Bowl. During the regular season, Hurts averaged 28.1 Fantasy points per game, and he has the potential to be the No. 1 overall quarterback this year. His weapons are among the best in the NFL with A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert, and Hurts is among the best running quarterbacks in the league as well, with consecutive seasons of at least 760 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. The only concern for Hurts is an injury, and he missed two games last season with a shoulder problem, but hopefully he can play all 17 games in 2023 and have another outstanding campaign.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Three total TDs in win

Hurts completed 18 of 23 passes for 193 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Eagles' 34-28 win over the Vikings on Thursday night. He also rushed 12 times for 35 yards and two more scores. Hurts' yardage numbers certainly won't set fantasy managers' pulses racing, but the All-Pro quarterback's three touchdowns went a long way to making up for it. Hurts' one score through the air was a beauty of a 63-yard pass to DeVonta Smith early in the third quarter to help extend to the Eagles' lead to 20-7 at the time. Hurts also crossed the goal line on one-yard runs in the second and third quarter, his first two rushing touchdowns of the campaign. The fourth-year pro has curiously fallen short of the 200-yard mark through the air in the first two games of the season, but Thursday, D'Andre Swift's 175-yard rushing night helped keep Hurts' workload light and efficient. The dynamic signal-caller now gets some extra rest before a Monday night, Sept. 25 road showdown against the Buccaneers.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Manages Philly to win

Hurts completed 22 of 33 passes for 170 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 25-20 win over the Patriots. He added nine rushes for 37 yards while losing a fumble. Hurts and the Eagles played through a steady rain in New England, leaving them limited in the passing attack. As a result, he mostly distributed the ball quickly and in the short areas of the field to A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, allowing his talented pass catchers to gain yards after the catch. That's reflected in his stat line, as he averaged only 5.2 yards per attempt. Hurts should be in a better position to air the ball out in a Week 2 matchup against the Vikings.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Unlikely to play Thursday

Hurts is unlikely to play in Thursday's preseason game against Indianapolis, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. It sounds like the Eagles will focus on competitions for back-end roster spots, with even No. 2 QB Marcus Mariota expected to play just one series. Hurts can soon turn his focus to the regular season, opening with a trip to New England on Sept. 10 and then a home game against the Vikings four days later (Sept. 14). His toughest matchups are mostly bunched together in early November through early December during a five-game stretch in which the Eagles face Dallas (twice), Kansas City, Buffalo, San Francisco

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Not expected to play Saturday

Hurts isn't slated to play in Saturday's preseason game at Baltimore, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. While Hurts was suited up for pregame warmups, he and the rest of the Eagles starters won't be available for the team's exhibition opener. With Hurts sidelined, Marcus Mariota, Ian Book and Tanner McKee are the options to man quarterback for Philadelphia. Hurts' next chance for game action will arrive this coming Thursday against the Browns.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Improving connection with Brown

Hurts has looked impressive in training camp practices, most notably connecting on numerous standout throws to A.J. Brown, EJ Smith of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Hurts and Brown have been close friends since they were teenagers, so they naturally found chemistry quickly when Brown was traded to Philadelphia prior to last season. Now tasked with shaking off the disappointment of the 38-35 Super Bowl loss to Kansas City, Hurts is determined to lead the Eagles to even greater heights in 2023 while throwing to a talented group of pass catchers led by Brown, DeVonta Smith and tight end Dallas Goedert.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Becomes highest-paid NFL player

The Eagles signed Hurts to a five-year contract extension Monday. Hurts' new contract is reportedly for $255 million and makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history in terms of annual average salary, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Additionally, the extension includes a no-trade clause and $179.3 million in guarantees. After leading Philadelphia to a narrow 38-35 Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs in just his second season as the Eagles' starter, it's little surprise to see general manager Howie Roseman lock in the franchise quarterback with a long-term deal. Heading into his age-25 season, Hurts has already established himself as one of the league's elite quarterbacks and one of the few premier fantasy options at the position. With A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert still headlining his receiving corps, and Rashaad Penny having filled the backfield void left by Miles Sanders' departure, Hurts is positioned well to continue his streak of outstanding production heading into the 2023 campaign.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Four total touchdowns in SB loss

Hurts completed 27 of 38 passes for 304 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 38-35 Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs. He added 15 rushes for 70 yards and three touchdowns. As was the case for much of the season, Hurts was dynamic as both a rusher and passer. He made a mistake early in the game on a fumble that was returned for a touchdown but otherwise moved the Eagles offense all game. Hurts connected with A.J. Brown for a deep 45-yard pass early in the second quarter for his lone passing score of the game. He also punched in three rushing touchdowns from short range. Despite Philadelphia coming up just short of a Super Bowl victory, Hurts established himself as an elite quarterback in the league in 2022.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Quiet performance in big win

Hurts completed 15 of 25 passes for 121 yards and added 39 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries in Sunday's 31-7 win over the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. What seemed like it would be a fearsome battle turned into a rout after the Niners lost Brock Purdy to an elbow injury early in the game and were forced to turn to journeyman Josh Johnson (concussion) under center. As a result, the Eagles didn't really need to air it out at all, and all four of the team's TDs came on the ground. Hurts picked up one of them on a one-yard run late in the third quarter, but he otherwise didn't need to do too much. The low passing numbers could give rise to questions about the health of his right throwing shoulder, but with two weeks to rest before the Super Bowl, Hurts should be 100 percent as Philly tries to win its second title in six seasons.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Eased back into lineup

Hurts completed 20 of 35 passes for 229 yards and an interception and gained 13 rushing yards on nine carries in Sunday's 22-16 win over the Giants. Seeing his first action since Week 15 due to a shoulder injury, Hurts wasn't asked to do too much to help Philadelphia lock up the top seed in the NFC and a first-round bye. Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reported after the game that Hurts' shoulder was still sore, so the extra week off will help the 24-year-old quarterback get closer to 100 percent healthy ahead of the divisional round.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Back in action in Week 18

Hurts (shoulder) is active for Sunday's game versus the Giants Making his first appearance since Week 15, Hurts will work through any lingering issues with his sprained right throwing shoulder as the Eagles seek the No. 1 seed in the NFC. During a Week 14 road win against the Giants, he completed 21 of 31 passes for 217 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing seven times for 77 yards and another score. Another productive outing for Hurts may be in store against a New York team that may not use many regulars due to being locked into the sixth seed in the NFC.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Trending toward playing Sunday

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said Friday that Hurts (shoulder) is "trending in the right direction" as this weekend's game against the Giants approaches, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports. Hurts has opened Week 18 prep with two straight limited practice sessions, and unless he upgrades to full activity Friday, the quarterback could carry a questionable designation into the regular-season finale. Even in that scenario, Hurts would still appear to be on track for the start, given that he hasn't experienced any reported setbacks in his recovery from the right shoulder sprain that sidelined him for the past two games. The Eagles will secure the NFC's No. 1 overall seed with a win over the Giants, so expect Hurts to attempt to play through the injury even if he's less than 100 percent.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Stays limited Thursday

Hurts (right shoulder) practiced on a limited basis Thursday. During the media-access portion of Thursday's session, Hurts went through a ball-security drill that he was absent from a week ago, according to Josh Tolentino of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Hurts also made throws with good velocity across his body while running to his left and again was the first quarterback to work in individual drills, per Tim McManus of ESPN.com. Still, Hurts logged a second consecutive capped session to kick off Week 18 prep, leaving his status up in the air for Sunday's contest against the Giants. His listing on Friday's injury report will be telling for his chances to put an end to a two-game absence due to a sprained right throwing shoulder.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Expected to play Week 18

Hurts (shoulder) is expected to play Sunday against the Giants, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Per Rapoport, Hurts would've played Week 17 if it had been a playoff game, but the Eagles opted to exercise the utmost caution to avoid a potential setback with the star quarterback's injured shoulder. Philadelphia has lost back-to-back games without Hurts and will look to get back on track against the Giants before postseason play begins. Despite Rapoport's encouraging update, fantasy managers still should monitor Hurts' participation at practice during Week 18 prep before locking him into lineups.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Officially out Sunday

Hurts (shoulder) is listed as inactive Sunday against the Saints. Hurts provided a glimmer of hope when he returned to practice Thursday, but after putting together back-to-back limited sessions to end Week 17 prep, the Eagles listed him as doubtful to play Sunday due to the sprained right throwing shoulder that he suffered Week 15 in Chicago. He'll thus cede quarterback duties to Gardner Minshew on Sunday, while Hurts himself will attempt to put himself in position to return for a Week 18 matchup with the Giants.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Not expected to play Sunday

Hurts (right shoulder) is not in line to play Sunday against the Saints, but he is expected to be available for the Eagles' Week 18 contest against the Giants, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Official confirmation of Hurts' Week 17 status will arrive when Philadelphia's inactives are posted ahead of Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff, with the QB having been listed as doubtful by the team after logging limited practices Thursday and Friday. Assuming Hurts isn't available versus New Orleans, Gardner Minshew will be slated to make his second straight start, while the Eagles' approach with regard to whether or how much to play Hurts next weekend will presumably hinge on if the team has clinched the NFC's No. 1 seed or not.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Doubtful for Week 17

Hurts (shoulder) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Saints, Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94 WIP Philadelphia reports. After sitting out Week 16 due to a sprained right throwing shoulder, Hurts returned to the practice field Thursday and maintained a limited listing into Friday's session. Despite showing signs of progress, though, he appears destined to be unavailable Sunday. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Friday that Hurts did show significant strides this week, so even if he doesn't play Week 17, he may be an option to suit up Week 18 against the Giants, especially if the Eagles have yet to lock up the No. 1 seed in the NFC. With Hurts expected to sit this weekend, Gardner Minshew is in line to get another start under center for Philadelphia.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Limited at Thursday's practice

Hurts (shoulder) practiced on a limited basis Thursday. Hurts was on the field for warmups and proceeded to get reps ahead of both Gardner Minshew and Ian Book, per Josh Tolentino of The Philadelphia Inquirer. It's the first sign that a return to action may be imminent for Hurts, who sat out a Week 16 loss at Dallas due to a sprained right throwing shoulder. Friday's injury report will reveal whether or not he'll avoid a designation heading into the weekend, but he more than likely will be listed as questionable if he has a chance to play Sunday versus the Saints.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Back at practice Thursday

Hurts (shoulder) took part in warmups ahead of Thursday's practice, Josh Tolentino of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. This marks Hurts' first action since spraining his right throwing shoulder Dec. 18 in Chicago and his first practice since Dec. 16. According to Tolentino, Hurts actually worked ahead of fellow quarterbacks Gardner Minshew and Ian Book, a fair sign that he's potentially putting himself in position to play Sunday against the Saints. Thursday's injury report will reveal how much activity Hurts was able to handle.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Sits out walk-through

Hurts (shoulder) was a non-participant at Wednesday's walk-through practice, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Even though the Eagles still have some work to do to lock down the NFC's No. 1 seed after this past Saturday's loss at Dallas, they may be without the services of Hurts for a second straight game, given that he has yet to log any practice reps due to the sprained right shoulder that he suffered Week 15 in Chicago. He still has a pair of sessions available to him this week to put himself in a position to play Sunday against the Saints, while Gardner Minshew is the next man up to direct Philadelphia's offense if Hurts requires more time to rehab his injury.

  • Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Uncertain for Week 17

Hurts (shoulder), who is out for Saturday's game against the Cowboys, is uncertain to play in the Eagles' Week 17 matchup with the Saints on Jan. 1, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Before determining Hurts' status for Week 17, the Eagles plan to wait and see how Week 16 action plays out with regard to the NFC playoff picture as well as how the quarterback's throwing shoulder responds to rest and treatment. The MVP candidate is recovering from an SC joint sprain in his right shoulder. Gardner Minshew is slated to start Saturday as well as any future games that Hurts might miss due to the injury.
