Dzubnar (knee) is expected to compete for the Chargers' starting middle linebacker job in the wake of an injury to Denzel Perryman, ESPN's Eric D. Williams reports.
Dzubnar, who is bouncing back from an ACL injury that landed him on IR last season, has been a special teams ace for the Chargers in the past, but he'll get a chance for a bigger role with Perryman expected to miss two months after undergoing ankle surgery. Dzubnar (knee) has been ruled out prior to Sunday's game.
The special teams ace wasn't expected to play Sunday after he reportedly suffered a serious knee injury last week. While Dzubnar has suggested he will try to play through the pain, the team apparently won't allow that to happen this week. The news couldn't come at a worse time, as the Chargers are already without Manti Te'o (Achilles) and could be without Denzel Perryman, who missed both Thursday and Friday's practice with a shoulder injury. With Dzubnar out, rookie Joshua Perry or Korey Toomer will be thrust into the backup role, and could have a serious impact on the game if Perryman is ruled out prior to the start of Sunday's game.

Dzubnar may be dealing with a potentially serious knee injury, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The injury news continues to pile on. The de-facto backup starting inside linebacker after a season-ending injury to Mant Te'o, Dzubnar may have suffered a serious injury of his own during Sunday's loss to the Saints. He'll attempt to play through the injury during the coming weeks, but considering Dzubnar has yet to practice this week, the Chargers may opt to rest the 25-year-old in favor of Korey Toomer or rookie fourth-round pick Joshua Perry.
