Akeem Hunt: Agrees to injury settlement
Hunt (ankle) agreed to an injury settlement Wednesday and was waived from the Chiefs' injured reserve list.
Hunt didn't earn more than a single carry in any one game last season until Week 17, when starting running back Kareem Hunt sat out to rest up for the playoffs. The third-year back only received four carries in that affair before going down with an undisclosed ankle injury that ultimately prevented him from passing a physical with Kansas City this past May. Now free from IR, Hunt will immediately be available to sign with any team other than the Chiefs should he pass through waivers unclaimed.

Chiefs' Akeem Hunt: Reverts to IR
Hunt (ankle) cleared waivers and reverted to injured reserve, according to the league's official transaction log.
Hunt injured his ankle in the 2017 season finale and was waived Tuesday after failing his physical. Barring an injury settlement, he's likely stuck on IR through the end of the 2018 season.

Akeem Hunt: Waived by Chiefs
Hunt (ankle) failed his physical and has been waived by the Chiefs, Pete Sweeney of 610 Sports Radio reports.
Hunt departed Week 17 last season after suffering an ankle injury and was placed on injured reserve the next week as a result. It appears his ankle hasn't healed enough at this point and the offseason additions of Damien Williams (shoulder), Kerwynn Williams and Darrel Williams makes it easier for the team to let him go. Hunt saw just 51 offensive snaps for the Chiefs last season but could find a home as a special teams contributor elsewhere if his ankle passes the test.

Chiefs' Akeem Hunt: Lands on injured reserve
The Chiefs placed Hunt (ankle) on injured reserve Tuesday, Pete Sweeney of the team's official site reports.
Weeks 16 and 17 were tough ones for Hunt, who entered the latter with a shoulder injury only to leave it with an ankle issue. The toll from both seemingly won't allow Hunt to play again during the Chiefs' upcoming playoff run. No matter, Kareem Hunt is the lead back by a mile in Kansas City, so Charcandrick West (illness) and the recently re-signed C.J. Spiller likely won't see the field much, if at all, in the coming weeks.

Chiefs' Akeem Hunt: Exits game with ankle injury
Hunt was forced out of Sunday's game against the Broncos with an ankle injury.
With the Chiefs locked into the AFC's No. 4 playoff seed, the plan was to rest key starters, so Hunt had an opportunity to see added carries in Week 17. Now that he's banged up, the team has fullback Anthony Sherman, as well as Kareem Hunt -- who was presumably originally ticketed for little to no work Sunday -- to handle backfield duties.

Hunt projects for the heaviest workload of his career, as head coach Andy Reid will likely be loathe to have starter Kareem Hunt see the field in a game in which he'd originally planned to rest him altogether. Fellow running back Charcandrick West's illness and subsequent inactive status disrupted those plans, but expect Akeem Hunt to still log the overwhelming majority of carries against Denver, with fullback Anthony Sherman and even wideout De'Anthony Thomas possibly seeing the occasional tote as well.

Chiefs' Akeem Hunt: Could see plenty of work Sunday
Hunt (shoulder) is expected to see extended snaps Sunday against the Broncos with lead back Kareem Hunt likely to be rested or see a restricted workload and Charcandrick West (illness) ruled out, Blair Kerkhoff of The Kansas City Star reports.
Since the two Hunts are the only available tailbacks on the roster with West out of the mix, it's likely that Kareem will dress for the contest. However, with the Chiefs locked in as the AFC's No. 4 seed, the team has little to gain by exposing the standout rookie to injury, positioning Akeem to see the bulk of the snaps out of the backfield in Week 17. With four carries for minus-2 yards and three receptions for 27 yards across 14 contests this season, Hunt doesn't offer much of a sample for fantasy players to project from, but the opportunity he has to see heavy volume might be enough to make him an interesting speculative play in DFS or season-long formats.

Hunt (shoulder) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
Hunt sprained his shoulder during last week's victory over the Dolphins. However, his full availability for Wednesday's practice suggests the injury was relatively minor and puts him firmly on track to play in the regular-season finale Sunday against the Broncos. It's possible he could see some carries on offense if the postseason-bound Chiefs rest their starters, since they having nothing to gain by winning.

The Chiefs signed Hunt to their practice squad Tuesday, Terez A. Paylor of The Kansas City Star reports.
The similarly named Kareem Hunt is slated to the head the Chiefs' backfield this season, but Akeem won't receive any opportunities with Kansas City unless further injuries thin the team's depth at running back. Hunt parlayed a practice squad spot with Houston last season into appearances in eight games with the Texans, during which he compiled 109 yards on 20 carries (5.4 per-carry average). A strained hamstring in training camp ended his bid for a roster spot with the Texans this summer, but he's reportedly healthy now and could make for an interesting developmental prospect for the Chiefs.

Texans' Akeem Hunt: Returns kickoffs in preseason opener
Hunt returned two kickoffs for 36 yards in Houston's preseason-opening loss to the Panthers on Wednesday.
Tyler Ervin was the main return man last season but had some problems with his handle, fumbling five times and losing two of them. The Texans aren't necessarily moving on from Ervin, but will give others opportunities, particularly early in the preseason. Hunt and Ervin are similar backs and there seemingly would be redundancy if both were given roster spots.
