Stephen Morris: Cut by Houston
Morris was released by the Texans, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Morris was the fourth quarterback on the depth chart and was deemed superfluous after the Texans signed placekicker Nick Rose. With starting kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn nursing a minor injury that could prevent him from participating in this week's preseason matchup against the 49ers on Saturday, Rose was signed and a roster spot was needed. Morris has previous stints with Washington, Seattle, Philadelphia and Jacksonville, though he's yet to appear in a regular-season game.

Texans' Stephen Morris: Claimed by Houston
Morris was claimed off waivers Monday by the Texans, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Morris was waived by the Seahawks three days ago after spending a month under contract with the team, his fifth as a pro. With Brandon Weeden and Joe Webb the only quarterbacks on the Texans' roster behind Deshaun Watson, Morris has a shot to compete for a backup job this offseason.

Morris is signing with Seattle, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
Released by Indianapolis earlier in the week, Morris didn't take long to find a new home. He'll be the only quarterback behind Russell Wilson on the depth chart, though Seattle figures to address that situation in the coming weeks, considering Morris went undrafted in 2014 and has yet to take a snap in an NFL regular-season game. His best-case scenario is a shot to compete for the backup job during training camp.

Stephen Morris: Released by Washington
The Redskins waived Morris on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
A 2014 undrafted free agent, Morris has spent time with the Eagles, Colts and Redskins, but he's yet to appear in a regular-season game. His long-shot odds to make the final roster in Washington took a hit when the team traded for Kevin Hogan on Friday. Morris will look to catch on elsewhere, merely hoping for a shot to compete for a No. 3 quarterback job.

Morris signed a reserve/future contract with the Redskins on Tuesday.
Morris still hasn't played in a NFL game since entering the league in 2014, but with the possibility of Kirk Cousins hitting the road, he may have a chance to make a Week 1 roster in 2017. The Redskins are likely just bringing him in for depth without much of a chance at becoming a starter.

Colts' Stephen Morris: Appears briefly in preseason finale
Morris completed two of five passes for 51 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in Thursday's preseason win over the Bengals.
Morris played just two series, so it's difficult to glean much from his performance. Veteran backup Scott Tolzien will likely start Week 1 against the Rams with Andrew Luck unlikely to play due to a shoulder injury. However, Morris showed enough this preseason that he could overtake Tolzien early in the season if the latter struggles and Luck makes slow progress in his recovery.

Morris was 12-of-16 for 143 yards passing with no interceptions or touchdowns in Saturday's preseason win over Pittsburgh.
Morris was impressive for a third consecutive preseason game and got some playing time in the first half with the second-team unit. Scott Tolzien should begin the season as the starting quarterback if Andrew Luck remains sidelined with a shoulder injury, but the Colts could quickly turn to Morris if Tolzien struggles.

Colts' Stephen Morris: Moves to No. 3 QB
Morris has moved back ahead of Phillip Walker on the depth chart, but Scott Tolzien will start Saturday's preseason game at Pittsburgh and likely play into the third quarter, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Tolzien has had a lackluster preseason, failing to lead the Colts on a touchdown drive in two preseason starts. Morris has played well in two preseason games (14-for-35 for 205 yards with 1 TD) and has been getting time with the second-team offense. It's a stretch to think he could start over Tolzien if Andrew Luck misses Week 1 with a shoulder injury. However, Morris could get a shot if Luck remains out multiple regular-season games and Tolzien struggles.

Colts' Stephen Morris: Strong second preseason game
Morris may be given a longer look at quarterback after going 11 of 15 for 111 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason loss at Dallas, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Morris was demoted to fourth string for Indy's first preseason game, but played well for a second consecutive game. With Indy's first-team offense struggling in two preseason games under Scott Tolzien, head coach Chuck Pagano said he would review his quarterback depth chart. It sounds like Morris may reverse his surprising early fall on the depth chart and get more time with the second- and even first-team offense.

Morris was 13-for-20 for 94 yards in Sunday's preseason loss to Detroit. While he led the Colts on their only touchdown drive, he was the third quarterback to play in the game.
Morris has fallen behind undrafted rookie Phillip Walker on the depth chart. While the Colts could carry three quarterbacks if Andrew Luck isn't ready to start the season due to a shoulder injury, it also seems likely Morris may not make the final roster.
