Beau Allen: Retires from NFL
Allen announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday via his personal Twitter account.
A 2014 seventh-round pick of the Eagles, Allen never made a Pro Bowl during his six active seasons, acting as a rotational piece on defensive lines between the Eagles and Buccaneers en route to 117 tackles, 2.5 sacks and one fumble recovery in 90 appearances. Perhaps his biggest accomplishment was a Super Bowl ring with Philly at the end of the 2017 campaign. Allen's last season on a roster was 2020, when he spent the entire campaign on injured reserve with the Patriots due to a leg issue.

Beau Allen: Failed physical
The Patriots cut Allen (leg) with a failed physical designation, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Allen is still recovering from the leg injury that forced him to sit out the entire 2020 season. When healthy, the veteran defensive tackle will be able to search for a depth role elsewhere.

Beau Allen: Released by Patriots
The Patriots released Allen (leg) on Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Allen was unable to play for the entirety of the 2020 season due to a leg injury. The last time the defensive player stepped foot on the field was during the 2019 campaign, when he recorded 10 tackles (four solo). While the status of Allen's leg injury is currently unclear, the 29-year-old will aim to fill a spot at defensive tackle elsewhere in 2021.

Patriots' Beau Allen: Won't play in 2020
Allen (leg) suffered a setback last week at practice and won't return from injured reserve this season, Jim McBride of The Boston Globe reports.
The 29-year-old was designated to return a couple weeks ago after landing on injured reserve before Week 1, but the setback will prevent him from seeing the field in 2020. Allen is under contract for next season at $3.1 million, but he could be cut as his release would result in only $1.1 million dead cap for New England.

Patriots' Beau Allen: Practices with team Wednesday
Allen (undisclosed) returned to practice Wednesday, indicating the start of his 21-day window to be activated from IR, Mike Dussault of the Patriots' official site reports.
Allen was in line to start at defensive tackle for the Patriots this year before he suffered an injury in training camp. It's unclear if the Wisconsin product will be ready for Sunday's game against the 49ers, but it shouldn't be long before he's back in the fold. Allen could be an immediate boost to a run defense that has allowed 119 rushing yards per game this year.

Patriots' Beau Allen: Set for sizable role in New England
Allen (ankle) is likely to take over Danny Shelton's starting spot at defensive tackle in 2020, Tom Curran of NBC Sports Boston reports.
Shelton moved on to Detroit after starting 14 of 16 games for New England in 2019, and Allen is expected to fill a similar role this season. The former Wisconsin Badger was bumped out of the defensive line rotation in Tampa Bay last year after the signing of Ndamukong Suh, but he previously was a reliable rotational option for the Bucs. Allen went down with an ankle injury late in 2019, but he's good to go for 2020.

Patriots' Beau Allen: Signs with New England
The Patriots and Allen (ankle) agreed to terms on a contract Wednesday, Doug Kyed of NESN.com reports.
The 28-year-old appeared in 13 games for the Buccaneers in 2019, accumulating 10 tackles (four solo) and a half sack across 182 defensive snaps. With plenty of departures from the New England defense this offseason, Allen will look to compete with Adam Butler and Byron Cowart for work at nose tackle in 2020.
