Ryan Switzer: Announces retirement
Switzer announced Monday via his personal Twitter account that he has retired from professional football.
Switzer hasn't appeared in a regular-season game since 2019 and had spent the last two seasons working through injuries while with the Browns organization. He finishes his career with 41 games played between the Cowboys and Steelers, generating 50 catches on 62 targets for 321 yards and a touchdown across five total seasons.

Ryan Switzer: Gets tryout
Switzer (foot) received a tryout with the Panthers on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Switzer signed a one-year deal with the Browns last offseason, but he suffered a foot injury during training camp that required surgery, and he never saw the field. Switzer last played in 2019 with the Steelers, appearing in nine games and making eight catches on 11 targets for 27 yards. The 2017 fourth-round selection will continue working to earn a shot at a comeback somewhere next season.

The Browns activated Switzer (undisclosed) from the practice squad/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Switzer will now be eligible to rejoin teammates at the Browns' facilities. If any of Jarvis Landry, Rashard Higgins, Donovan Peoples-Jones and KhaDarel Hodge are unable to come off the COVID-19 list Week 17, it's possible that Switzer could be called up to the active roster.

The Steelers could try to bring back Switzer with some injury-related roster shenanigans, but for the moment he'll pass through waivers. The selection of Chase Claypool in the 2020 NFL Draft and emergence of castaway Ray-Ray McCloud made Switzer's skillset expendable, although his status as a 2017 fourth-round pick likely will secure, at minimum, a practice squad spot down the road.
