Sam Ficken: Joins Detroit's practice squad
Ficken has landed on the Lions' practice squad.
Ficken started the season in Tennessee but subsequently landed on its injured reserve with a groin injury. Both parties eventually reached an injury settlement and he was waived from IR. He tried out with Jacksonville prior to landing in Detroit, so his groin issue is seemingly behind him. He will now look to make an impression on the practice squad while waiting for an opportunity to get called up.

Sam Ficken: Tries out for Jacksonville
The Jaguars worked out Ficken on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Ficken spent the entire 2021 campaign on the Titans' IR due to a groin injury after appearing in 24 games over the prior two seasons with the Jets. During that stretch, he made 32 of 42 field-goal attempts and 35 of 41 extra-point tries.

Titans' Sam Ficken: To miss at least three games
The Titans placed Ficken (groin) on injured reserve Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Ficken made a sudden appearance on Tennessee's injury report Friday as a limited participant due to a groin injury. Just one day later, the team has opted to place a second kicker on IR -- Tucker McCann (undisclosed) also is there -- and signed Michael Badgley from the practice squad to handle kicking duties Week 1. Ficken will spend at least the first three games of the season away from the field.

Titans' Sam Ficken: Pops up on injury report
Ficken (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Ficken was a late addition to the injury report following a limited practice session Friday. With alternative kicking option Tucker McCann (undisclosed) on IR, Tennessee has added Michael Badgley to the practice squad to serve as insurance in case Ficken's injury sidelines him for Week 1.

Titans' Sam Ficken: Only kicker remaining
Ficken remains the only kicker on the Titans' roster after Tucker McCann was waived Monday due to an injury suffered in the team's preseason opener, Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com reports.
Ficken was claimed off waivers from the Jets on Aug. 1, and the 28-year-old kicker now finds himself without competition as the season quickly approaches. Through two weeks of the preseason, the Penn State product is 3-for-3 on field goals and 6-for-6 on PATs. Ficken has impressed in practice as well, hitting 48 of 53 field goals since joining the team. The 6-foot-1, 192-pounder may have value in fantasy as he finds himself as the current starter for a team that projects to be able to move the ball effectively on offense.

Titans' Sam Ficken: Claimed by Titans
Ficken was claimed off waivers by the Titans on Sunday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Ficken was cut by the Jets on Friday, but he should now compete with Tucker McCann for kicking duties ahead of the regular season. Ficken played nine games for the Jets last year and converted on 13 of his 15 field-goal attempts, while McCann only made seven of his 11 field-goal attempts in camp Friday and Saturday.

Fickens spent the last two seasons in New York. He suited up for nine games in 2020 and knocked in 13 of 15 field-goal attempts in the process. Ficken was 32-for-42 on field goals overall during his two years in the Big Apple. However, it looks like the team will look go in a new direction in 2021. Kicker Matt Ammendola was picked up by the team in a corresponding move and figures to compete with Chris Naggar for the job.

Sam Ficken: Returns to Jets on future contract
The Jets signed Ficken to a reserve/future contract Monday.
New York parted with the 28-year-old two days ago, but Ficken is now slated to return to the team in March after knocking down 13 of 15 field-goal tries and 12 of 15 point-after attempts during 2020. His second season was better than his first with Gang Green, as Ficken converted on just 19 of 27 field-goal attempts (70.4 percent) during 2019. Chase McLaughlin is the only kicker on the Jets' active roster currently, and his contract extends into 2021.

Ficken had two kicks blocked in last week's win over the Browns. The Jets have decided to move on, handing the starting job to Chase McLaughlin instead. Ficken completed 13 of 15 field-goal attempts and 12 of 15 extra-point tries during the 2020 season.

Jets' Sam Ficken: Blocked twice in Week 16 win
Ficken converted one of two field-goal attempts and two of three PAT tries in Sunday's 23-16 win over the Browns.
Ficken had a PAT attempt blocked after New York's second touchdown and a 50-yard field-goal attempt suffered the same fate, but he nailed a 34-yard field goal to stretch New York's lead to seven points late in the fourth quarter. Despite this poor performance, Ficken should maintain kicking duties for the Jets against the Patriots in Week 17.

Jets' Sam Ficken: Comes off IR
The Jets activated Ficken (groin) from IR on Saturday.
Ficken is set to kick against the Rams on Sunday after having missed three straight games due to his lingering groin injury. In seven appearances this year, Ficken has made 90 percent of his field-goal attempts (nine of 10). Of course, a matchup against the Rams may not provide him with many scoring opportunities.

Coach Adam Gase said Friday that Ficken (groin) "looks like" he'll play Week 15 against the Rams, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
Ficken was designated for return to practice Wednesday, but the Jets haven't yet officially brought him back to the active roster. The team will have until Saturday at 4 p.m. to make the transaction, but barring a setback in Friday's practice, Ficken looks set to kick for the Jets for the first time since Week 11.

Ficken has only appeared in one game since Week 6, but the Jets could bring him back to the active roster as soon as Sunday against the Rams now that he's been cleared to practice again. Replacement kicker Sergio Castillo missed three field-goal tries against the Seahawks last weekend, so the Jets could be particularly motivated to get Ficken back on the field.

The Jets are in dire need of Ficken, as his replacement, Sergio Castillo, missed three of four field-goal attempts in Sunday's 40-3 loss to the Seahawks. Ficken has been on IR for three weeks, and his next step is to get back onto the practice field. If is designated to return, there's a good chance he plays against the Rams on Sunday.
