Mohamed Sanu: Let go by Dolphins
The Dolphins have released Sanu, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
In eight games with the 49ers last season, Sanu caught 15 passes on 24 targets for 177 yards. The 33-year-old wideout now is an option for team's looking to add veteran depth ahead of Week 1.

Dolphins' Mohamed Sanu: Signs with Miami
Sanu signed a contract with the Dolphins on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Sanu turns 33 in August and hasn't reached 200 yards in a season since 2019. He was a functional third receiver for the 49ers before dealing with a knee injury last season, but he'll likely be lower on the depth chart in Miami so long as Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Cedrick Wilson stay healthy.

49ers' Mohamed Sanu: Inactive Sunday
Sanu (coach's decision) is listed as inactive for Sunday's NFC Championship at the Rams, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Only four days removed from the 49ers activating him from injured reserve, Sanu will miss his 12th game in a row. It's unclear if his previously injured knee is to blame, but the team's receiving corps is mostly healthy, so he'll remain in street clothes Sunday. Behind San Francisco's top duo of Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Trent Sherfield and Travis Benjamin are the other wideouts available to the offense.

The 49ers activated Sanu (knee) from injured reserve Wednesday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Sanu reached the end of his 21-day window for the 49ers to either activate him from IR or rule him out for the rest of the season. It's unclear if he'll be available for Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Rams, and it's also uncertain what his role would be if he plays, given that Jauan Jennings has provided solid work as the No. 3 receiver. Sanu caught 15 of 24 targets for 177 yards in eight regular-season games, with his most recent appearance coming Week 9.

Sanu (knee) wasn't listed on the 49ers' injury report Wednesday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Sidelined since Week 9 due to a knee sprain, Sanu was activated from injured reserve Wednesday and avoided the injury report entirely following his first official practice since being activated. While Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk occupy the top two spots on the team's depth chart at wide receiver, Sanu will contend with Jauan Jennings for any snaps that linger at the position in Sunday's NFC Championship Game at the Rams. In eight appearances this season, Sanu recorded 15 catches (on 24 targets) for 177 yards and no touchdowns.

Sanu thus won't be eligible to return to the active roster until the divisional round, at the earliest, but the 49ers first will need to secure a victory in their playoff opener. The team opened his practice window Jan. 5, so there's plenty of time for the 10th-year pro to prove his knee is healthy. Sanu (knee) wasn't among the players added to San Francisco's roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's regular-season finale against the Rams, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Sanu has missed eight games in a row due to a sprained knee sustained Week 9 against the Cardinals. San Francisco already had ruled Sanu out in advance of Monday's game against the Rams, and the 49ers evidently didn't have much confidence he'll make a full recovery from a sprained knee within the next two weeks, either. Coach Kyle Shanahan said this week that Sanu is expected to miss time with a knee sprain, so it's not entirely surprising to see him unavailable Monday. Trent Sherfield and Jauan Jennings could see a slight uptick in playing time.
