Indications are that Titans QB Jake Locker could return on Sunday vs. the Dolphins barring a setback. Locker has been out since suffering a shoulder injury in Week 4. (AP)

Roughly six weeks after dislocating his left, non-throwing shoulder for the second time this season, Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker received the most promising news on Wednesday that his return to the lineup could be imminent.

Locker was cleared by team doctors to participate in 11-on-11 team drills and took reps with the first-team offense in Wednesday’s practice. Barring a setback Locker could start for the Titans on Sunday at Miami, coach Mike Munchak said.

“I think he’s ready to go, it’s just a matter of now getting through practice,” Munchak said. “Physically, I think he’s as healthy as he’s going to be until he starts playing. He had a good day of practice today.”

The second-year Titans quarterback has been out since he was blindsided by Texans S Glover Quin in the first quarter of Tennessee’s loss at Houston in Week 4. Locker returned to practice on a limited basis on Oct. 17, several days before the Titans’ 35-34 win at Buffalo.

“I think anybody who gets injured in this locker room is always waiting to get back out there,” Locker said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to move forward and to do a little more. It’s a lot better than standing around and watching, that’s for sure. My goal is to go out and put our team in the best situation to win.”

While Locker is regarded for his scrambling ability, Munchak has few concerns that the quarterback will leave himself susceptible to further injury while leaving the pocket. Munchak expects Locker to be smart about sliding when it’s needed. The Titans’ coach has advised Locker to avoid tackles if the Titans commit a turnover. Locker initially injured the shoulder when he lunged to make a tackle on Patriots S Patrick Chung in the opening week.

At the same time, Locker asserted that it could be tough for him to return if he plays with hesitancy because of the injury. Locker said he could wear a shoulder brace when he returns.

“I told Munch, ‘if you’re going to consider letting me play at some point I need you to consider (allowing me to be) myself so that I don’t have to think about don’t do this or don’t do that,’” Locker said. “If I’m going to be able to play, I’m going to play the way I know how and the way I always have played.”

If Locker returns this week, he’ll face a Dolphins’ defense ranked 30th against the pass and 24th overall. Dolphins DE Cameron Wake is ranked third in the NFL in sacks with 8.5. The uncertainty surrounding the Titans’ quarterback situation has forced the Dolphins to prepare for both Locker and Matt Hasselbeck.

“He (Locker) throws the ball well on the move and he’s got all the arm strength you need to make the throws that are required of a quarterback in the NFL,” Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said. “We’re going to have to be on task against either one of them, but certainly he has a little bit of a different dimension.”

Titans sign DE Wynn, RG Harris to IR: One day after releasing DE Pannel Egboh, the Titans signed three-year veteran Jarius Wynn. Originally a sixth-round pick of the Packers in 2009, Wynn was released by Green Bay in the preseason.

“I think (Wynn) can play a little bit inside and outside, and is a little more experienced,” Munchak said. In 36 career games, Wynn has 4.5 sacks and 46 tackles. Wynn (6-3, 285) has started four career games, all with the Packers.

RG Leroy Harris (knee) was placed on IR after he sought a second opinion from a specialist on Tuesday. Harris said he suffered a partially torn ACL. The Titans’ starting right guard suffered the injury in week 8 vs. the Colts.

Other injuries: Three Titans’ players -- LB Colin McCarthy (ankle), LB Xavier Adibi (knee) and S Al Afalava (ankle) -- did not practice on Wednesday. With several injuries at linebacker, the Titans added LB Rico Council to the practice squad. Council (6-1, 255) signed with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2012 and was released by Atlanta in preseason.

WR Kendall Wright (elbow) was a full participant in practice. Wright returned to Sunday’s loss against the Bears late in the fourth quarter after suffering the injury while making a block. WR Kenny Britt (knee) and CB Alterraun Verner (thigh) were full participants in practice. CB Tommie Campbell (ankle) and LB Patrick Bailey (ribs) were limited by injuries.
