The Tennessee Titans are now facing the possibility of having to finish the season without their best player. Derrick Henry suffered a potentially season-ending foot injury during the Titans' 34-31 overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora confirmed with league sources after an initial report from ESPN. Titans head coach Mike Vrabel told reporters on Monday that the running back will have surgery on Tuesday morning. The issue is apparently a broken bone in Henry's foot.

"Derrick's going to have surgery in the morning and we're not going to put a timeline on when he may return," Vrabel said. "I know that he will do everything he can to work himself back to be able to help this football team and whenever that is, that's when it will be."

Henry rushed 28 times for 68 yards against the Colts. It wasn't his typical outing, as he leads the NFL in rushing yards (937) and rushing touchdowns (10). He was seen talking with trainers on the sideline in the first half while walking without one of his cleats, but he returned to the game and finished it out. Henry has been able to avoid the injury bug for the majority of his career, as he has missed just one game. Now, the MVP candidate is facing the possibility of missing a lot more.

The reigning Offensive Player of the Year became just the eighth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season last year, as he led the NFL in rushing for the second straight season with 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns. Henry was on pace for 1,991 yards and 21 touchdowns this season before he suffered his foot injury.

The Titans offense runs through Henry, so this is a major development that affects how they are viewed as contenders. According to SportsLine data scientist Stephen Oh, losing Henry for the season drops the Titans' win total from 11.5 to 10.6 and their chances of winning the AFC from 17.7 percent to 5.9 percent. When it comes to potentially winning the Super Bowl, the Titans' chances drop from 8 percent to 2.1 percent.

The other running backs on Tennessee's roster are Jeremy McNichols and Mekhi Sargent along with fullback Khari Blasingame. The Titans could attempt to make a move at the trade deadline or sign a free agent like Todd Gurley or familiar face D'onta Foreman
