Cowboys center Phil Costa questionable to return with back injury

Cowboys center Phil Costa left the Cowboys-Giants game with a back injury in the first quarter and was questionable to return, leaving the newly acquired Ryan Cook to play in his place.

The one real area of weakness for the Cowboys heading into Wednesday night's game was the interior of the offensive line. And things got worse for Dallas when Phil Costa suffered a back injury that forced backup Ryan Cook into the game.

Costa was on the sideline lying on a table, and his return was questionable. Cook was acquired by the Cowboys from the Dolphins in a trade that went down less than a week ago. And he's already firing snaps just a bit outside:

Cook already is having trouble getting the ball to Romo. 

Now, it's not like Costa's a grade-A NFL center. And it's not like he's gone for the game, either. But it's really, really bad news when the Cowboys suffer a personnel blow at their biggest position of weakness before the first quarter of the first game of the first week of the NFL season is even over.

Rocky Bernard's already sacked Romo once, and it's not like he's the biggest quarterback hawk on the Giants roster. Maybe it'll be fine, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on as the game progresses, particularly if the Cowboys offense looks discumbobulated or Costa is ruled out.
