Romeo Crennel was asked after the Chiefs' 44-14 loss to Seattle on Friday if he would consider giving up his duties as defensive coordinator.

"Not yet," he said. "We might have to look at that though."

Crennel backed off that statement on Saturday, telling Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star that he spoke out of frustration on Friday night.

"We're not ready to throw the offense or the defense in the trash can or anything like that," Crennel said. "The thing that we have to do is refine some techniques and we have to play better. Our guys are capable of doing that. We've got good ability on the team. I still feel that way. I still feel like we can make some plays and do some things. But we also have to be diligent about doing our responsibilities and executing our responsibilities and executing them at a high level."

The Chiefs struggled on both sides of the ball against Seattle, the second straight week that the first-team defense has struggled and the first time in the preseason that the first-team offense has looked unsteady. The Seahawks, led by rookie QB Russell Wilson, did not have to punt until the fourth quarter. Matt Cassel had his first two turnovers and led only one scoring drive.

"I'm frustrated because of the way the game turned out but as you look at it, it’s not as bad as it seemed," Crennel said. "There are some good things in the game. Guys are hustling and trying to play and trying to do the right thing. But in this team game, if you have one guy who's not on top of his game, then the other team, sometimes they can find the soft spot. (Seattle) found the soft spot a couple of times (Friday) night. We've got to shore up the soft spot and not allow there to be any and then we'll be able to be competitive from that point."

Injury updates: The Chiefs still don't know when they will get back CB Brandon Flowers, who has been out since July 31 with a heel injury. The secondary took another hit on Friday when CB Jalil Brown asked to come off the field midway through the third quarter after defending Braylon Edwards on a deep ball. Brown, who had replaced Flowers in the starting lineup, injured his groin and Crennel said both he and Flowers are unlikely to play on Thursday at Green Bay. CB Jacques Reeves will likely get the start.

Crennel said that NT Anthony Toribio (ankle) and WR Terrance Copper (groin), who were both injured on Friday, are also unlikely to play against Green Bay. He added that defensive linemen Glenn Dorsey (knee) and Allen Bailey (ankle) had a chance to play on Thursday.
