The Falcons released Bailey on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The move frees up $4.5 million in salary cap space for the Falcons. In his two seasons with the team, Bailey tallied 41 tackles (22 solo) and 2.5 sacks through his 31 games. The 31-year-old, who entered the NFL in 2011 after being made a third-round draft pick by Kansas City, should catch on elsewhere as a rotational defensive lineman.

Falcons' Allen Bailey: Tabbed to start against Chicago
Bailey will be in the starting lineup against the Bears now that Takkarist McKinley (groin) has been deemed inactive, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
McKinley had been a force in the early going with seven QB hits and a sack, meaning Bailey may have to rise to the occasion if Atlanta is to generate an equivalent pass rush. Bailey played on fewer than 40 percent of the defensive snaps Weeks 1 and 2, but Sunday he'll be called on for a more crucial role against a Chicago offensive line that has surrendered 2.5 sacks per game in 2020.

Falcons' Allen Bailey: Signs extension
Bailey agreed Wednesday with the Falcons on a one-year, $4.5 million extension that keeps him under contract through 2021, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
The new contract reduces Bailey's cap hit for 2020, converting some of his base salary into a signing bonus. The 31-year-old lineman was solid but unspectacular in 2019, his first season with the Falcons, tallying 26 tackles and one sack while starting five of 15 games. Bailey had a career-high six sacks in 2018, the final season of his eight-year tenure in Kansas City.

Bailey collected 26 tackles, four tackles for loss and one sack across 15 appearances (including five starts) for the Falcons this season.
Watching his former team of eight years go to the Super Bowl without him is painful enough in its own right, but Allen also endured one of his least productive seasons from an individual perspective during 2019. The 30-year-old defensive end collected a career-high six sacks and 10 QB hits while starting 13 games for Kansas City last season, but this year he managed a measly two QB hits and collected his fewest number of tackles since 2012 (minimum six games played). He is under contract with Atlanta for one more season at a cap hit of $5.9 million, making him the 12th-highest compensated player on the Falcons and 28th-highest paid player at his position.

Falcons' Allen Bailey: Not listed on injury report

Atlanta lands one of the bigger names left on the free-agent market, with Bailey boasting 19.5 sacks and 61 starts in 102 games for Kansas City, including a career-high six sacks last season. He's spent most of his career playing defensive end in a 3-4 scheme, but he'll likely line up as a tackle in Atlanta's 4-3 base defense. With Grady Jarrett locked in for one starting job, Bailey figures to compete with Tyeler Davison and Jack Crawford for the other spot.

Bailey has already visited with the Patriots and the Panthers, so he's clearly a hot commodity. The 30-year-old spent the last eight seasons with Kansas City, and he posted 38 tackles and six sacks in 2018. Chiefs' Allen Bailey: Continues sack streak
Bailey had seven tackles (four solo), a half-sack and a forced fumble in Sunday's 40-33 win over the Raiders.

Bailey notched two tackles and one sack during Sunday's victory over the Cardinals.
The ninth-year veteran flashed on a number of plays Sunday starting with his fifth sack of the season, and an instance when he single-handedly took down All-Pro running back David Johnson behind the line of scrimmage. Bailey also had a nice quarterback hit in the red zone that led to an incompletion. Kansas City will need another productive game out of him this weekend when the Chiefs attempt to slow down the high-powered Rams offense.

Bailey spent plenty of time on the practice field on a limited basis, clearing the way to be active this week after sitting out Week 11 against the Giants. Though he's expected to start at defensive end, Bailey's fantasy upside is limited. He won't blow you out of the water with his tackle numbers (29 total) and hasn't recorded a sack since Week 3.
