  • Javonte Smart: Loses two-way contract

Smart was waived from his two-way deal Saturday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Smart's two-way slot will instead be filled by Kenneth Lofton, who was recently let go by the Grizzlies. Despite Smart's two-way status, he had logged only one NBA minute this season, and he will likely remain an important piece for the 76ers' G League affiliate unless another team picks him up.

  • 76ers' Javonte Smart: Upgraded to two-way deal

The 76ers converted Smart's Exhibit 10 deal to a two-way contract Saturday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Smart will join undrafted rookies Terquavion Smith and Azuolas Tubelis as the 76ers' three two-way players. The 24-year-old guard last saw NBA action in 2021-22, when he made 17 appearances between the Heat and Bucks and averaged 3.0 points and 1.4 rebounds in 11.8 minutes. Though he'll be eligible to suit up for at least 50 of the 76ers' 82 games while under the two-way deal, Smart is likely to see the majority of his playing time with the G League's Delaware Blue Coats.

Smart was efficient from the field and posted team highs in assists and rebounds. • Javonte Smart: Struggles from field Monday

Smart delivered eight points (3-12 FG, 2-9 3Pt, 0-1 FT), two rebounds, two assists and a steal across 24 minutes in Monday's win over Iowa. Smart chipped in with 21 points (7-15 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, an assist and a steal across 34 minutes in Friday's loss to Salt Lake City. Smart has been Birmingham's most reliable and consistent scorer recently, and the former Louisiana State guard is averaging 18.2 points per game this season. His ability as a scorer is proven in the G League, however, so these numbers shouldn't surprise anyone. In fact, he scored 21.1 points per game for Sioux Falls during the 2021-22 campaign across 25 outings.

It's only been two games, but Smart has looked impressive on both ends of the court so far, putting up solid scoring figures and also contributing across other categories. This was a marked step in the right direction compared to the season opener, as he posted just nine points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal against Lakeland on Nov. 6.
