  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: Outrighted to Albuquerque

The Rockies sent Kauffmann outright to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday. After clearing outright assignment waivers, Kauffmann will officially remain in the Rockies' farm system without the benefit of a 40-man roster spot. Kauffmann struggled mightily in the majors this season to the tune of an 8.23 ERA across 35 innings. The 26-year-old righty will likely need to show significant improvement with Albuquerque before he gets another opportunity in the big leagues.

  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: Rocked by Twins

Kauffmann (2-5) took the loss in Saturday's 14-6 loss against the Twins. He allowed eight runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two over 4.1 innings. Kauffman worked the second leg of the Rockies' bullpen game Saturday, following up Matt Koch's scoreless first by allowing eight runs across 4.1 frames. A majority of the damage was done in the third inning, when Trevor Larnach smacked a grand slam. With just one day left in the regular season, it appears Kauffman will finish his rookie campaign with a 2-5 record, an 8.23 ERA and 16:16 K:BB over 35 innings.

  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: Back in big leagues

Kauffmann was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. The right-hander was sent to Triple-A on Sept. 16 but will rejoin the MLB club with Daniel Bard (forearm) and Ryan Feltner (elbow) landing on the injured list. Kauffmann has started in three of his nine big-league appearances this season and has a 7.28 ERA across 29.2 innings, and it's possible he receives another start in Colorado's last five games given its injury issues in the rotation.

  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: Sent back to Triple-A

Kauffmann was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque after the Rockies' 9-5 win over the Giants in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader. Kauffmann was called up ahead of the day game, pitching four innings in relief of opener Brent Suter. The right-hander earned the win, allowing one unearned run on two hits and three walks while striking out four. Matt Carasiti was recalled from Albuquerque to replace Kauffmann in Colorado's bullpen prior to the nightcap.

  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: Returning to big leagues

The Rockies recalled Kauffmann from Triple-A Albuquerque ahead of Wednesday's game against the Brewers, MLB.com reports. He'll be joining the Colorado bullpen as a replacement in long relief for Connor Seabold, who was sent to Albuquerque after surrendering seven earned runs in two innings of mop-up duty in Monday's 12-1 loss to Milwaukee. Kauffmann has made three of his six appearances with Colorado this season as a starter and could be the next man up to join the rotation if the Rockies lose a pitcher to injury or if the likes of Chris Flexen or Ty Blach lose hold of their rotation spots.

  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: Picks up first win

Kauffmann (1-3) allowed one run on two hits and a walk over four-plus innings Monday. He earned a win against Washington but did not record a strikeout. After Jake Bird tossed a pair of scoreless frames as the opener, Kauffmann fired four shutout innings of his own. Kauffmann then put two runners on base without recording an out in the seventh and was later charged with a run. The right-handed rookie made his first MLB appearance since June 24 and earned his first career win. Kauffmann has produced an 8.72 ERA with an 8:11 K:BB through 21.2 innings.

  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: Called up Monday

The Rockies recalled Kauffmann from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday. Jake Bird is scheduled to serve as the Rockies' opening pitcher in Monday's game against the Nationals, but Kauffmann will most likely work in bulk relief behind him, given that he's capable of covering multiple innings and is the freshest arm in the Colorado bullpen. The right-hander has produced an inflated 10.19 ERA and 2.04 WHIP with eight strikeouts in 17.2 innings over five appearances (three starts) with the big-league club in 2023. Kauffmann will likely be in line for a short-term stay with the Rockies.

  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: On taxi squad, could pitch Monday

Kauffmann joined the Rockies' taxi squad earlier this weekend and could be formally called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to either start or serve as a bulk reliever in Monday's game in Washington, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Colorado is treating its series finale in Miami on Sunday as a bullpen day, so the team will presumably wait and see how the game plays out before determining if it wants to deploy an opener in front of Kauffmann or use the right-hander as a traditional starter. Either way, Kauffmann doesn't profile as a reliable streaming option after he posted a 10.19 ERA, 2.04 WHIP and 8:10 K:BB in 17.2 innings over five appearances (three starts) with the big club earlier this season. Since returning to Albuquerque in late June following his most recent stint in the majors, Kauffmann has logged a 5.71 ERA and 1.96 WHIP in 17.1 innings over three starts.

  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: Sent to Triple-A

Kauffmann was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. The 25-year-old gave up a run over three frames in Saturday's blowout loss to the Angels and was the only Rockies pitcher to surrender fewer than six runs, but he'll still lose his spot on the active roster. Kauffmann has been ineffective in his first taste of the big leagues this year with a 10.19 ERA, 2.04 WHIP and 8:10 K:BB across 17.2 innings.

  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: Recalled, but unavailable to start

Kauffmann, who was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque, isn't expected to start Wednesday's game against the Reds after he was unable to arrive in Cincinnati ahead of the 12:35 p.m. ET start time, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. With Wednesday's projected starter, Connor Seabold, revealed to be dealing with an arm injury following an evaluation Tuesday, the Rockies scrambled to call up Kauffman as a potential replacement in the rotation for the series finale in Cincinnati. However, with Kauffmann unable to make his travel arrangements work on short notice, the Rockies will now turn to reliever Jake Bird to start Wednesday's contest in what amounts to a bullpen day.

  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: Gets call, could work in bulk relief

The Rockies recalled Kauffmann from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday Though reliever Jake Bird is getting the nod as the Rockies' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game in Cincinnati, Kauffman could be tasked with covering the bulk of the innings out of the bullpen in the series finale with the Reds. Since usual starters Kyle Freeland (illness) and Connor Seabold (arm) weren't available to take the hill Wednesday like the Rockies hoped, Kauffman likely represents the freshest arm the team will have available who's capable of covering multiple frames. Kauffmann previously made three starts with the Rockies earlier this season but posted an ugly 11.37 ERA and 2.29 WHIP in 12.2 innings.

  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: Stumbles in debut

Kauffmann (0-1) allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against Texas. Kauffmann looked solid through three scoreless frames before the Rangers finally broke through in the fourth inning. He coughed up a two-run shot to Adolis Garcia and was charged with three more runs in the fifth. Kauffmann had a 7.78 ERA with Triple-A Albuquerque prior to his promotion for Friday's start. It's unclear if he'll get another turn in the rotation.

  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: Officially promoted

The Rockies selected Kauffmann's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday. Kauffmann will make his major-league debut Friday against the Rangers. The 25-year-old righty holds a 7.78 ERA and 1.78 WHIP through 37 innings in Triple-A across eight starts, and he's unlikely to offer much fantasy relevance. To make room for Kauffmann on the roster, the Rockies optioned Riley Pint to Albuquerque on Wednesday and transferred German Marquez (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Friday.

  • Rockies' Karl Kauffmann: Likely to start Friday

Kauffmann was scratched from his start for Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday and is expected to be called up to start for the Rockies in Friday's game against the Rangers in Texas, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Kauffmann has struggled to a 7.78 ERA in eight starts with Albuquerque in 2023, but he pitched well in his last outing May 10 with six innings of two-run ball while striking out five. Though he'll at least avoid a start at Coors Field for his MLB debut, Kauffmann's underwhelming track record in the upper levels of the minors render him an unappealing streaming option this weekend.
