Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Henry (elbow) could be a bullpen option in the NLCS against the Phillies, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Henry has been on the shelf since late July due to inflammation in his left elbow, but he resumed throwing off a mound toward the end of the regular season and faced live hitters in Friday's intrasquad game at Chase Field. Prior to the lengthy IL stint, the 26-year-old southpaw held a 4.15 ERA and 64:35 K:BB in 89 innings (16 starts, one relief appearance) with Arizona.... See More ... See Less

Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Throws bullpen session
Henry (elbow) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Friday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Henry is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Tuesday, but he probably won't be a consideration for the Diamondbacks' postseason roster unless they make a deep run. The 26-year-old left-hander has been on the injured list since late July because of elbow inflammation.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Still not throwing
Manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday that Henry (elbow) still has not started his throwing program and he may be "past the point of no return," Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Lovullo said last week that there was a chance Henry returns in a bullpen role before the end of the season, but his chances appear to be fading. If Henry isn't able to begin his throwing program within the next few days, it's certainly possible the D-backs shift their focus to getting Henry ready for the start of spring training next year.... Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Could still pitch in 2023
Manager Torey Lovullo believes Henry (elbow) could return in time for the end of the 2023 season, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Lovullo goes on to state that it would be nearly impossible to ramp Henry back up to a starting role, but if he's activated in time, the southpaw could be utilized out of the bullpen. Henry was shifted to the 60-day injured list Saturday, meaning he won't be eligible for a return until Sept. 29.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Shifted to 60-day IL
Henry (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Saturday. Henry has been on the 15-day IL since July 30 and will now be ineligible to return until the Diamondbacks' final series of the regular season versus Houston in late September. The move created a spot on the 40-man roster for Nabil Crismatt, who had his contract selected from Triple-A Reno on Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Erratic in third loss
Henry (5-3) took the loss Friday, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks over 4.1 innings as the Diamondbacks fell 9-6 to the Reds. He struck out two and also hit two batters with pitches. Some shaky defense by Geraldo Perdomo did him no favors, but Henry created plenty of problems for himself, as he tossed only 47 of 88 pitches for strikes before getting the hook. The southpaw has issued four free passes in two of his last three outings, and since the beginning of June he's posted a 4.29 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 33:18 K:BB through 42 innings. Henry will look for a better result in his next start, likely to come at home next week against the Cardinals.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Takes rare loss
Henry (5-2) took the loss Sunday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk over 4.1 innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out five. After going at least 5.2 innings in each of his last four starts, Henry was pulled after 4.1 innings (81 pitches) Sunday. He struggled with the Blue Jays' talented lineup, allowing more hits (seven) Sunday than he had given up (six) in his last two starts combined. The loss was Henry's second of the season and his first since May 11 (10 starts). Henry's taken significant steps forward in his second MLB season, owning a 3.89 ERA and 1.35 WHIP, but he still has room for improvement with strikeouts (6.4 K/9) and limiting power (1.4 HR/9).... Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Picks up fourth win
Henry (4-1) earned the win Thursday in Washington after he gave up one run on seven hits and one walk over 6.2 innings. He struck out five. The left-hander surrendered a solo homer to Lane Thomas during the third inning but otherwise kept the Nationals off the board to notch his fifth quality start of the year. Henry has taken advantage of favorable matchups against Cleveland and Washington in his past two starts with just three runs allowed across 13 frames, but he lines up for a tougher test next week versus Tampa Bay.... Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Solid in no-decision
Henry allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three over six innings in a no-decision versus the Guardians on Saturday. Henry had given up five runs in each of his last two starts before this quality start. Andres Gimenez had a solo home run and a bases-loaded walk to account for the runs on Henry's line. While he went a third straight outing without a win, the southpaw trimmed his ERA to 4.66 with a 1.39 WHIP and 36:22 K:BB over 56 innings across 11 appearances (10 starts). Henry's lined up for a road start in Washington next week.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Turns in another forgettable outing
Henry didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 9-8 win over the Phillies, allowing five runs on nine hits and one walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out six. Henry has now allowed five runs in each of his last two starts without completing five innings in either one of them. The southpaw showed flashes of greatness in his seven-inning scoreless performance May 31 against the Rockies, but he hasn't been able to consistently put it all together this year. The second-year pitcher currently sports an unimpressive 4.86 ERA and 1.38 ERA.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Hit hard by Nationals
Henry did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks over 4.1 innings in a 10-5 victory over Washington. He struck out two. Henry allowed a season-high five runs Tuesday, giving up four in just one swing of the bat as Stone Garrett swatted a grand slam in the first inning. He also tied his shortest start of the campaign after getting pulled in the fifth at 81 pitches. The 24-year-old has been excellent at Chase Field, sporting a 2.49 ERA across 25.1 innings compared to a 6.75 ERA over 20 innings on the road. However, he is tentatively scheduled to make his next start against the Tigers in Detroit.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Dominates Rockies in win
Henry (3-1) hurled seven scoreless innings in a 6-0 win over the Rockies on Wednesday while allowing just two hits and walking two. He struck out seven batters. Henry put together the best start of his young MLB career Wednesday evening. It was just the second time in 16 career starts he's managed to go seven innings, and he also tied his career high with seven strikeouts. The 25-year-old has notoriously struggled with his control, but he commanded the strike zone well and after the game said it was a big reason for his successful outing. Wednesday marked his first start without giving up a home run since May 6. Henry now sits at a 3.73 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 25:16 K:BB over 41 innings and lines up for a favorable start against the Nationals next week.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Back in win column
Henry (2-1) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks over 5.2 innings Monday, striking out five and earning a win over Philadelphia. Henry rolled through three scoreless innings with little pushback from the Phillies. He then served up solo homers to Kyle Schwarber and Bryston Stott in the fourth. After allowing two home runs through 22.1 innings to begin the year, Henry has allowed four over his last two starts. He lowered his ERA to 4.68 while picking up his first win since April 29. Henry's lined up for a home outing against Boston this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Gives up pair of long balls
Henry did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks over 4.2 innings in a 9-8 loss against the Athletics. He struck out four. Henry struggled to keep the ball in the park Tuesday, being taken yard by Nick Allen and Ramon Laureano for solo home runs in the third and fourth innings. After nabbing a pair of quality starts in his last two appearances, Henry was unable to make it through five innings against the league's fourth-worst scoring offense (3.74 runs scored per game). However, he managed to set a season high in strikeouts. Henry is tentatively scheduled to take the mound Monday in a road matchup with the Phillies.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Takes tough loss
Henry (1-1) took the loss Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over 6.2 innings against the Giants. He struck out two. Henry was solid against the Giants lineup, but the Diamondbacks couldn't score until the ninth inning. Henry went deeper than he had in any game this season, but he still only picked up two strikeouts. He has just nine punchouts in 22.1 innings on the season.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Regrets one pitch
Henry allowed four runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six over 3.1 innings in Tuesday's spring start against the Giants. Henry told Steve Gilbert of MLB.com that he made a wrong decision on a 2-2 pitch that resulted in J.D. Davis' three-run home run. The left-hander, who is vying for the No. 5 starter job with Drey Jameson, Ryne Nelson and Brandon Pfaadt, regretted throwing a fastball hitter one fastball too many. "Just threw a good fastball hitter too many fastballs in one at-bat," Henry said. "I saw some things that would have suggested to throw other pitches and I still threw the heater." Henry had worked three scoreless frames before running into trouble in the fourth.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Logs four scoreless
Henry allowed three runs and struck out three without walking a batter over four scoreless innings in Wednesday's spring start against the Rangers. Henry made his third Cactus League start and has improved after a rocky initial appearance. The key, according to manager Torey Lovullo, was the pitcher landing his offspeed stuff effectively. "Tommy was aggressive with a three-pitch mix," Lovullo told Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. "He seemed like he could throw the breaking ball at any time to get him back in the count. He gave us four unbelievable innings." With this outing, Henry may have altered the narrative for the fifth starter's job, which was previously thought to be a competition between Drey Jameson and Ryne Nelson. Prospect Brandon Pfaadt, who starts Friday, is also in the mix.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Better in second outing
Henry allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out four over three innings of relief in Friday's spring game against Seattle. Henry bounced back from an unpleasant performance his first time out in the Cactus League. He allowed five runs over 1.1 innings as a starter last Sunday. Even though Henry allowed a couple of runs and two extra-base hits over his first two innings, the left-hander improved and retired the side in order during his final inning. He told Jack Sommers of SI.com that the pitch clock had him huffing and puffing. Henry is in the mix for the No. 5 starter job.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Vying for rotation spot
Henry is expected to compete for the No. 5 starter job this spring, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. The top four spots in Arizona's rotation are set, but the final one is up for grabs with Henry joining a group whose leading candidates are Ryne Nelson and Drey Jameson. The left-handed Henry made nine starts over the final two months of 2022 with mixed results. He posted a 5.36 ERA and 1.45 WHIP while giving up 10 home runs over 47 innings (1.9 HR/9). Prospect Brandon Pfaadt is also in the mix, but a roster spot could hinge on a player being on the 40-man roster, which favors Henry.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tommy Henry: Pitches into seventh
Henry tossed 6.1 innings, surrendering one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five in Monday's extra-inning loss to the Brewers. Henry gave up a solo homer to Christian Yelich in the bottom of the second, accounting for the only blemish on his line Monday. The outing was his second quality start of the season over nine outings and the first time he'd allowed less than five runs since Aug. 26. Henry had an up-and-down campaign, producing a 5.36 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 36 punchouts over 47 innings in nine starts.... See More ... See Less
