The Reds added Hinds to their 40-man roster Tuesday. Hinds has yet to advance past Double-A in his career, but the Reds value him highly enough to prevent him from being taken away in the upcoming Rule 5 Draft. The 23-year-old outfielder could be bumped up to Triple-A Louisville to begin next season after slashing .267/.328/.534 with 23 homers and 97 RBI with Double-A Chattanooga in 2023.... See More ... Reds' Rece Hinds: Active at Double-A
Hinds (undisclosed) was activated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday for Double-A Chattanooga. The Lookouts only have a couple games left this season, but at least Hinds' injury was minor and only cost him 10 days. Hinds was a strikeout machine earlier in the year (42.7 K% in first 49 games), but he is slashing .323/.396/.668 with 18 home runs, 11 steals and an acceptable 24.7 percent strikeout rate over his last 220 at-bats. Given that the Southern League switched out the pre-tacked baseballs in early-July, it would seem that this recent run from Hinds is a more relevant dataset than his early season mediocrity. The former third baseman primarily played right field this year while also seeing time in left field and at designated hitter. He will need to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason if the Reds want to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Rece Hinds: Back in action for High-A club
High-A Dayton reinstated Hinds (hand) from its 60-day injured list Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. The power-hitting Hinds will rejoin the Dayton lineup for the first time since June 21 after a two-month absence due to a hamate bone fracture in his left hand. Hinds received the green light to head to Dayton after going 1-for-16 with two stolen bases during a recent six-game rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.... See More ... Reds' Rece Hinds: Starts up rehab assignment
Hinds (hand) began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Monday and went 1-for-2 with a stolen base while starting in right field. Since Hinds currently resides on High-A Dayton's 60-day injured list with a left hamate fracture and hasn't played for the affiliate since June 21, he's not expected to rejoin the club until next week. In the meantime, he'll continue to get his timing back at the plate in Arizona following the extended absence.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Rece Hinds: Suffers left hamate fracture
Hinds was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list with a left hamate fracture Thursday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Hinds has struggled with strikeouts in the minors early in the season, as he's posted a 40 percent strikeout rate over 53 games at High-A Dayton. The 21-year-old played in Tuesday's game in Dayton but apparently sustained a hand injury that will require an IL stint. The team hasn't yet revealed a timetable for Hinds' return, but he'll presumably be forced to miss several weeks since he's dealing with a fracture.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Rece Hinds: Prodigious strikeout rate
Hinds is hitting .265/.363/.487 with six homers and five stolen bases at High-A Dayton, but he has also struck out 53 times in 135 plate appearances, good for a 39.3% K%. Hinds missed significant time due to injury both in 2019 and 2021, so it's premature to rule out eventual improvement. But his inability to make regular contact is a red flag, despite his clear power.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Rece Hinds: Moving to outfield
The Reds are moving Hinds from third base to the outfield to try to keep him healthier, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "We made a decision to get him on the field healthier," Reds farm director Shawn Pender said. "He has had problems with his legs for whatever reason in the infield. He's an offensive guy first, he's a great athlete and the more we can get him on the field, he can use his speed, his athleticism and his power." Hinds was able to play only 54 games last season at two levels after suffering a meniscus tear in his knee. Even before last season, many contemplated a position change for Hinds. The Reds are hoping that Hinds can tap more into his power this minor-league season.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Rece Hinds: Rejoins Low-A lineup
Hinds (knee) was reinstated from Low-A Daytona's 7-day injured list Tuesday and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in his return to the lineup. Daytona activated Hinds for his first appearance with the affiliate since June 2 after he completed an 11-game rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League. The 20-year-old third baseman has appeared in 23 games for Daytona on the season, hitting .218 with four home runs and two stolen bases.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Rece Hinds: On shelf with torn meniscus
Hinds is on the 7-day injured list at Low-A Daytona with a torn meniscus in his left knee, Doug Gray of RedsMinorLeagues.com reports. The recovery time for such an injury is typically four-to-six weeks after surgery. Hinds last played June 2, so he could return in late July or early August. A popular breakout candidate this year, Hinds was hitting .229/.319/.458 with four home runs, two steals and a 25.5 percent strikeout rate as a 20-year-old. A pitcher-friendly home park in Daytona has suppressed his numbers.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Rece Hinds: Joins player pool
Hinds was added to Cincinnati's 60-man player pool Friday. Hinds was selected 49th overall by the Reds in the 2019 draft, but he played in only three games at rookie ball last year due to a quad injury. The 19-year-old will head to the alternate site to hopefully avoid a lost season of development.... See More ... See Less
